When I first searched the web for ways to make money online in August 2021, I was surprised by how many companies there were. It was a little overwhelming. When COVID hit, millions sought to earn money while stuck at home. With so many online businesses, how do we tell which ones are genuine and which ones are potential scams?

The cons
A little overwhelming
Like any new business, there is a lot to learn and do to get things rolling. If you’re a thing like me, I want to know everything all at once, but it’s impossible. Little steps and consistency are the perfect combination. The hardest part is starting.
Basic computer skills are ideal.
Although it says you don’t need computer skills, as you will learn everything through the training, I feel everyone would benefit from basic skills.
Having experienced it firsthand, I found it much easier to learn the different tasks with my knowledge of working with an iPad or computer.
The upgrade option can be expensive.
In any business, we need to pay out money before we can earn the money back. While paying a yearly premium is more cost-effective than paying monthly, you need the money to move forward with the training.
The free option allows you to complete ten training lessons. Once you have reached your limit with the free trial, you will need to upgrade to premium to access the site further. This will benefit you and your business with all that the platform offers.
Training updates required
Some of the training is a little outdated, but there is an option to request an update above all training lessons.
If you encounter any training that asks you to do something on your website manually and your device doesn’t have the option, you can request an update or ask the community for assistance.
Is it a scam?
We are too quick to assume the negative with anything we read or see, and looking for ways to make money online is no exception. We try to find fault in something if it sounds too good. I always believe that if something does sound too good to be true, it usually is.
With over 2,600,000 members in the community, they can’t all be thinking the same thing. We often label things as a scam when it’s something that we fail at or lose money from.

Should I sign up for premium?
If you’re serious about making money online, the free platform will help you to some extent, but you must sign up for a premium to earn income. You will then have access to boot camps, online classes, and unlimited support, to name a few benefits.
Within the premium amount, you will get all the help you need 24/7 and a keyword research tool called Jaxxy, which helps you find the best keywords to use when writing your articles. I feel this is essential in any online business, as there is a lot of competition.

With so many ideas to choose from, I knew immediately that I wanted to incorporate my love of fragrances. I knew I could write a lot about the topic and help readers with their queries when they search online.

My story
Alongside being a freelance hairdresser, network marketer, and a one-on-one support teaching assistant for a special needs boy, I felt the need to add another income—something to fall back on in my later years when perhaps my full-time business in hairdressing would become too much as I grew older.
I had no idea what affiliate marketing was, so the closest I had come to this kind of business was working in network marketing. In 2016, I was introduced to a company called FM World. FM World is a perfume company that began selling designer-inspired perfumes and cosmetics in 2011.
As a lover of fragrances, I was sold and have built a small, dedicated team with the same passion for helping others. The training is elementary to follow, albeit a little overwhelming if you try to take on too much initially. Little steps are recommended so you understand what you are doing. There is no rush. It’s taking things at your speed, and there is no pressure to catch up with everyone else. It’s your journey. There are enough pressures nowadays, so we don’t want to add to them.

Reusing Candle Jars
Many of us have candles scattered around the home to give a feeling of warmth and elegance and to emit a beautiful scent in the room. If you’re a candle addict like myself, every room will have a candle sitting somewhere, and by reusing candle jars, we can create another solution for these items.
Most of us are guilty of throwing the jars away to be recycled after the candle has burned, but what can we do instead to reuse the empty jars and save our environment?
Save your candle jars for use around the home
Candles are popular and come in all varieties, shapes, and sizes. While some are in simple containers, many on the market today are too beautiful to throw away. We are very much into upcycling nowadays, and it is not just restricted to furniture or clothing.
Many of us are mindful of throwing away items and damaging our environment, so this is a great way to do our bit for the world. Recreating something else from a candle jar will keep the home tidy and make finding things much more accessible than in drawers.
If you like purchasing luxury candles, they will often come in a more expensive container to reflect the price. It’s a shame and a waste to throw the jar away once the candle has burned and we’ve spent money, so remember to save them.
Cheaper candle containers can still be used for other items, and with candles’ popularity today, it makes more sense to reuse the jars. Let’s consider some ideas for reusing candle jars around the home, workplace and school.

Pen/pencil pot
We all have countless pens lying around the house, and you can guarantee that whenever you need to find one to make a note whilst on the phone, for example, there is never one to be seen. As long as your candle jar is deep enough to hold an average-sized pen, you’re good to go with this beautiful idea of keeping pens in an accessible place.
Pen pots are also widely used in schools, and if you have tinned containers, these are perfect for sitting in the classroom. They also reduce the need to purchase so much plastic.
Plant pot
I love this idea. It’s so important to have plants in the home. Certain plants can improve indoor air quality, helping us breathe better and increasing oxygen levels.Adding some soil and plant seeds will enable you to grow your plant. Another idea would be to re-pot an existing plant into a more elegant container. Plants in the home bring the greenery of the outside nature inside.
Centrepiece for a table
A decorative candle jar will bring your home to life, whether it’s a Christmas centrepiece or to add elegance to the middle of your dining room table when entertaining. It adds an inviting touch to the table at dinner time. You could also purchase floating candles and pop them inside a decorative jar.
Fairy lights
Adding fairy lights to an empty candle jar is a beautiful idea, and I have used it myself around my home.
Small sets of LED battery-operated lights can be purchased from most stores and online shops, such as eBay.
You can also use empty wine bottles for a similar effect. They make a wonderful centrepiece and give the home a welcoming and warm environment.
It’s incredible how they can create an effect in the home on a cold winter evening, and it’s so simple and cost-effective.
Homes always feel warmer when candles are burning, or fairy lights are switched on, so this is one to try.
Kitchen utensils
Have small utensils such as a mini whisk, meat thermometer, pasting brush or wooden spoons that are easy to access when cooking and prevent the cutlery drawer from becoming too full.
Cosmetic brushes
My cosmetics brushes are inside a ceramic candle holder that I have kept and washed. Similar to the pen holder, make sure your jar is deep enough to hold the length of different-size brushes, and they will always be on hand when you apply makeup.
It also helps to keep them clean for longer when they are not mixed up in a cosmetics bag. You can also add lip liner or eyeliner pencils so they are easily accessible.
Cotton buds/pads
Have you ever bought cotton buds and found the pot unsuitable?
They’re so packed in tight that when you do want to take one out, several buds fall out of the container at once, and you end up poking the rest back into any space you can find for next time. Make them easy to get to by adding them to a candle container instead.
For those who use a cosmetics remover product instead of a makeup remover towel, make the cotton balls/pads accessible in their container and ditch the plastic bag they are sold in.
When storing cotton balls and buds in the bathroom, these jars will look much more elegant. Sweet/biscuit jar
When my children were much more minor, I used to keep small sweets in a jar, and they were allowed one sweet per day.
These are perfect for use if you have purchased a candle with a lid, such as the Yankee candle. They will hold a few small sweets, and biscuits can be stored for easy access.
Loose change
Most of us use cards or phones to pay for items and see fewer small changes. If we have any spares, a candle jar is perfect for keeping loose coins in one place. Shallow candle holders are ideal where depth is not needed. If you collect copper coins, use a large bottle with a wide rim and save them. When the bottle is full, bag the coins and bank them.

Those with young children and perhaps have an arts and crafts cupboard will know how valuable containers and pots are for items such as crayons, beads, ice pop sticks, glitter, and scissors. Candle jars with lids are ideal for the smaller items. Sewing cotton is great to store in clear jars as the vibrant colours pop through.
Buttons
My late mum had a vast collection of spare buttons she had collected over the years, which she kept in a tin. As an avid sewer, I always had a spare button to sew onto a cardigan, skirt, or pair of trousers when my siblings and I were minors. I now occasionally look through those buttons to find a suitable one for any missing clothing items or my children’s.
Buttons must be stored in a large container, so these are ideal if you have a large candle jar. Nail polish
If you have a drawer with every nail polish colour under the sun, I recommend a shallow candle jar instead. Nail polish is best kept upright to prevent spillages and keep it away from direct sunlight and heat. A candle tin can be an excellent idea for keeping those bottles upright and tidy if you have a few favourite colours you access regularly.

More and more people reach for herbal teas. A great way to store herbal tea bags is in a jar instead of having the box on the kitchen work surface. If you have three matching candle jars, you can add coffee in one and sugar in another to jazz up the kitchen.

Reuse a candle jar with a candle. Simple but effective. Any size candle container can be used for this. Pop your scented or unscented tea light candle inside, and you have instantly created your very own tea light holder.

Charging leads
With technology being all around us nowadays and everyone in the home having phones, laptops or iPads, the leads are endless. They all look the same and are, more often than not, tangled up.
As a hairdresser, my kitchen has these types of leads and the ones I use for charging cordless clippers. Unless you have every lead positioned in a socket so that they are to hand, they can become a tangled mess if they’re sitting inside the kitchen drawer.
Gather them separately, wrap an elastic band around them, and pop them inside a deep candle tin or jar. Now you have all your leads neat and untangled.
Preparing your used jar
Removing the old wax
If wax residue remains in the base or edges of your candle holder, there is a simple way to remove it. Add boiling water to the jar and leave it to stand for a few minutes.
The boiled water will help to lift the wax out in one piece. Remove any leftover wax around the sides. Labels can be removed with hot, soapy water. Wash the jar or container thoroughly and dry.
Once the leftover wax and any labels are removed, you can be very creative by adding your design to the jar and making it more decorative and personalised with items such as stickers, glitter or even dry flowers.

Recycle your jar for a friend’s or family member’s birthday or a Christmas present, and pop a tea light candle inside for the perfect gift.

The new year often sees resolutions made, most commonly losing weight, drinking less or perhaps giving up nail-biting. It’s not always about making resolutions, though, especially when most are given up within the first few weeks.

We all know how we feel with a new fragrance. Many will see a fresh calendar page and maybe the January sales to purchase a new year perfume instead of a resolution that may not last.
We often purchase the same bottle of perfume throughout the year, our comfort classic that reminds us of memories made. Some men and women perhaps change their scent to match the seasons.
Unless you’ve been gifted a new perfume for Christmas that you have never tried, the same scents return for the following year, and we never get to try a different one.

Christmas time is the perfect excuse for a new fragrance, and we see countless TV ads with designer fragrances and celebrity endorsements on our screens.

I notice the popularity of summer-scented perfumes advertised during the run-up to Christmas each year.
Whilst there is a hugely popular selection and best-sellers throughout the year, I always associate floral, sweet and delicate notes for the spring and summer seasons.
We need lighter scents on the skin for the hotter months.
La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme, Angel by Thierry Mugler, and Daisy by Marc Jacobs appear on our screens most commonly during Christmas, when men and women frantically search online and in the shops for the perfect gift.
Each of these perfumes is more suitable for summer, yet they are highly advertised during the run-up to Christmas.

For me, Christmas and winter should have woody and oriental scents. Those strong fragrances turn heads and work well during the colder season.

Such notes are too heavy for summer, where we should look for more floral and lighter scents.

When we purchase a fragrance, whatever the season, we should always concentrate on the base notes.
These notes will last the longest and that others around us will smell and be influenced by.

Sales of perfume and scented skin care products skyrocket during Christmas more than any other time of the year.

A favoured perfume launched very recently in 2021 and is often advertised on TV. This little gem smells just as good as it looks.
Whilst the fragrance notes appear very floral, the base notes bring out the winter theme for this delightful perfume.

Popular winter scents for men
Viktor & Rolf- Spice Bomb
Viktor & Rolf have a male version of the ever-so-popular Flower bomb for women, the Spice bomb, which hit the fragrance world in 2005. The male scent was released in 2012.
The bottle alone screams masculinity compared to its female version, which has an elegant, feminine bottle.
With a powerhouse of fragrance notes, it’s of little surprise that this scent is just as popular as the female version.
Designed like a bomb from a James Bond film, this fragrance reaches out to its male customers with a beautiful combination of heavy base notes.

Our noses get used to the scent as it settles, and while we may be led to believe that the smell has worn off, it is still very much noticeable to others.
Spraying more or too much in the first place will not only impact your nose and could give you a headache but also harm those around you.
Every woman loves to be noticed and admired by her choice of clothes, hair, makeup and fragrance, but no one wants her chosen scent to linger long after she has walked past.
Fruit and freshness
When sprayed, this scent instantly smells fresh, and the top notes, especially the blackcurrant, pop through. After a few minutes of spraying, there is a gorgeous smell of sweetness with the orange blossom drifting through and a woody edge from the cashmere wood.
