    Refillable Candles

Refillable candles are a creative way to enjoy your favourite scents without adding to the piles of empty glass jars we usually toss out. Unlike traditional candles, these allow you to keep the container while replacing only the wax or filling, offering a genius mix of eco-friendliness and design.

Additionally, refillable candles allow you to experiment with different wax types that might burn cleaner or longer than store-bought options, refining your candle-burning experience.

Here’s an improved version of your paragraph with better flow:

I love the idea of refilling candles. There is so much waste when we throw away candles that have burned down, leaving us with an empty jar or container. By reusing what we already have, we can make such a difference.

Choosing refillable candles is like swapping fast fashion for timeless classics in your home decor. They cut down on waste and are planet—and wallet-friendly. Who doesn’t love a two-in-one deal? Plus, it’s a great DIY project that’s fun and kind to the Earth.

Moreover, you can align your choice of candles with sustainable living goals, particularly if you’re mindful of your carbon footprint or prefer eco-conscious home decor.

Refillables also offer a chic solution for those who are into minimalism or wish to avoid clutter. With just a few containers, you can rotate scents seasonally without the guilt of throwing away packaging.

Refillables go beyond being eco-conscious; they offer a sense of creativity in customization. You get to play designer, choosing everything from the scent to the colour of your candle, making them functional and a personal statement piece.

Many candle enthusiasts also enjoy the flexibility of matching the aesthetic of their candles to different interior designs, helping to create specific moods or themes in their living spaces.

How to Make Your Refillable Candles: A Step-by-Step Guide

Making your refillable candles can be a fun and rewarding project that suits both newbies and seasoned DIYers. The essential ingredients are a good base oil or wax, a wick, some fragrance or essential oils, and a suitable container. Soy wax is famous for its clean burn, but you can explore other options, like beeswax or coconut wax.

Your old candle jars work just fine as containers. Please make sure they’re clean and free from any leftover wax residue. If you don’t have any old jars, use any heat-resistant containers. Mason jars or cute teacups can give your handmade creations a quirky touch. Even vintage glassware or small metal tins can make your candle unique, adding a personalized flair to each piece.

Pouring your candles is all about control and timing. Melt your wax over a double boiler until it’s a smooth liquid. Once it’s cool enough but still pourable, add your chosen fragrance. Stir well and pour slowly into your chosen container while keeping the wick straight and centered.

Patience is your best friend as the wax cools and sets, which might take several hours. Once everything’s solid, trim the wick to about a quarter inch. Voilà! You’ve just crafted a beautiful refillable candle to light up your space. Not only does the final result provide ambience, but handmade candles can also be excellent, thoughtful gifts.

Ensuring Safety and Longevity in Refillable Candles

Safety is a top priority when using refillable candles at home, so following simple steps is crucial. Always ensure your candles sit on a stable, heat-resistant surface, far from flammable items like curtains or papers. This simple step can prevent those little mishaps from escalating. Regularly inspecting your candles for cracks or signs of wear in the container can help avoid accidents, too.

Burning a candle might seem straightforward, but some art is involved. Trim your wick to about a quarter-inch before each use, as this will help avoid smoke and ensure an even burn. Also, keep the candle away from drafts to maintain an even flame. No one likes a candle that melts unevenly, right?

When treated well, refillable candles can last a long time, but their lifespan is affected by the type of wax or refill material you use. Soy wax, for example, is long-lasting, giving you more delightful hours of light. If you’re using other types, like beeswax, remember that each has its own burning time.

You may even find that certain waxes are better suited to different occasions, like beeswax, which is suitable for special events due to its slow, radiant burn.

Choosing quality materials is crucial for keeping your candle safe and efficient. Stick with natural wicks and waxes as much as possible to ensure a clean burn. Avoid materials that could release toxins when heated. You’ll have peace of mind along with your cosy glow. Natural wicks made from cotton or wood offer additional eco-friendly benefits and may enhance the overall burning experience.

Customizing the Scent: Crafting the Perfect Aroma in Refillable Candles

Creating a signature scent for your refillable candles is where the magic truly happens. Whether you’re into calming lavender or vibrant citrus, there’s a fragrance waiting for its spotlight in your home. Essential and fragrance oils are your best friends, offering unique profiles and benefits.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even layer scents to create multi-dimensional aromas that evolve as the candle burns, adding a surprise element to your experience.

Essential oils are the way to go if you’re after a natural vibe. They offer pure, plant-based aromas and bring aromatherapy into the mix. Think eucalyptus for relaxation or peppermint for invigoration. Be generous yet cautious; some fragrances may be potent, so adjust according to preference to maintain balance.

Fragrance oils offer a broader spectrum of smells and are typically more affordable. They’re synthesized to replicate scents that are hard to extract naturally. Do you love the idea of a warm vanilla-baked cookie scent without the hassle of baking? Fragrance oils can deliver just that.

For seasonal or holiday-specific scents, fragrance oils give you a wide range to experiment with, from pumpkin spice in autumn to fresh pine during the winter holidays.

Blending oils can be fun and lets you create multi-layered aromas. Mix complementary scents like lemon, basil, cedarwood, and bergamot to find what uniquely defines your space. A little experimenting can go a long way in enhancing your atmosphere. These scents affect the mood, and when made with natural ingredients, they can also improve indoor air quality.

    Making Your Own Candles

Most homes, including my own, have candles. Many are bought from shops or online, but there are several reasons why making your own candles can be a rewarding and worthwhile project.

It doesn’t matter what season we are in; candles are an added accessory to the home that can bring us warmth, joy, and peace. Many candles are available to purchase nowadays, and prices range from very low to expensive, so we thought we would look into a way of making your candles.

    making your own candles
Handmade candles can be infused with petals, crystals and essential oils.

Seven reasons why you should make your own candles

Creative Expression: Making your candles allows you to unleash your creativity. You can choose the wax, fragrances, colours, and container styles that align with your personal preferences and home decor.

You can experiment with combinations to create unique and customised candles that reflect your individuality. If you’ve ever looked on Pinterest, you’ll find some beautiful ideas for making candles.

    Making your own candles

Cost-Effective: DIY candle making can be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing commercially made candles. Buying the necessary materials in bulk can save money in the long run.

Additionally, homemade candles make great gifts for family and friends, saving you from buying expensive store-bought presents.

So many people buy expensive candles and never burn them because they feel it wastes money. Keeping a candle unlit means you won’t appreciate the scent captured within the wax and smell its fragrance.

Quality Control: When you make your candles, you have complete control over the quality of the ingredients. You can choose natural and eco-friendly waxes like soy or beeswax, which are renewable resources and emit fewer toxins than petroleum-based candles.

You can also select high-quality fragrances or essential oils to ensure a pleasant scent without harmful additives. This is ideal for anyone in your household who enjoys the smell of candles but suffers from the toxins when burning.

    Making your own candles

Customisation: One significant advantage of making your candles is the ability to customise them according to your preferences.

You can create candles with specific scents, colours, and container styles to match moods, occasions, or seasons. The possibilities are endless, whether you want calming lavender candles for relaxation or festive cinnamon-scented candles for the holidays.

Therapeutic and Relaxing: Making candles can be therapeutic and relaxing. It allows you to slow down, focus on the present moment, and engage in a mindful activity. The aroma and warm glow of candles can create a soothing ambience, promoting relaxation and stress relief in your home—something we all strive for, especially in current times.

    Making your own candles

Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly: Making your own candles can contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. Using natural waxes, reusable containers, and eco-friendly materials reduces your environmental impact compared to buying disposable or heavily packaged candles.

You can also recycle or upcycle containers and re-purpose old candles, minimising waste. This topic is huge in the world now, and we should all do our bit to help the environment.

Sense of Accomplishment: Making something with your hands can be incredibly fulfilling. Seeing your finished candles, enjoying their fragrance, and basking in the soft glow can give you a sense of pride and accomplishment.

It’s a tangible result of your creativity and effort, just like when you were at school and made something from scratch. It’s a wonderful feeling when we have created something ourselves.

Overall, making your candles allows you to personalise your living space, save money, control the quality of ingredients, engage in a satisfying and creative hobby, and be a rewarding activity.

    Making your candles-ingredients and tools

    1. Buy your materials:

    – Candle wax (such as soy wax, beeswax, or paraffin wax)

    – Candle wicks

    – Containers (glass jars, tins, or moulds)

    – Wick stickers or hot glue

    – Wick holders (pencil, clothespin, or chopstick)

    – Fragrance oils or essential oils (optional)

    – Dyes or colourants (optional)

    – Thermometer

    – Double boiler or a heat-safe container and a saucepan

    – Stirring utensil (metal spoon or wooden skewer)

    – Heat-resistant surface or newspaper

    – Scissors

    2. Prepare your containers:

    – Clean and dry your containers thoroughly.

    – If you’re using glass jars, ensure they are heat-resistant to prevent cracking.

    3. Attach the wicks:

    – Use a wick sticker or a small amount of hot glue to secure the wick at the bottom centre of the container.

    – Place a wick holder across the top of the container to keep the wick central and straight.

    4. Melt the wax:

    – Set up a double boiler by filling a saucepan with water and placing a heat-safe container on top. Alternatively, use a heat-safe container directly on a saucepan.

    – Cut the wax into small chunks for faster melting.

    – Place the wax in the top container or saucepan and heat it over medium heat until it melts completely.

    – Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature and ensure it doesn’t exceed the wax’s melting point. Different waxes have different melting points.

    5. Add fragrance and colour (optional):

If you want scented candles, Add fragrance or essential oils to the melted wax. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended usage rate for the oil.

    – Add candle dye or colourants to achieve your desired colour. Start with a small amount and adjust as needed.

    6. Pour the wax:

    – Allow the melted wax to cool slightly to avoid excessive heat when pouring.

    – Slowly pour the melted wax into the prepared containers, careful not to disturb the wick.

    – Leave some space at the top to allow for any shrinkage during cooling.

    7. Cool and cure:

    – Let the candles cool and solidify completely. This process may take a few hours or overnight.

    – Trim the wicks to a suitable length (about ¼ inch or 0.6 cm) using scissors.

    8. Clean up:

    – Clean your tools and equipment while the candles are cooling. Wax can be difficult to remove once it hardens.

    9. Enjoy your homemade candles:

    – Once the candles have cured, they are ready to be used. Light them and enjoy the cosy ambience they create in your home.

Remember to exercise caution when working with hot wax and open flames. Always follow safety guidelines and never leave burning candles unattended.

    Candles That Help You Sleep

There are various reasons why some individuals may struggle at bedtime to switch off for a restful night. Whilst many of us battle with how to fight this issue, some candles help you sleep.

Here are a few common factors that can contribute to difficulty falling asleep:

    1. Stress and Anxiety: High levels of stress or anxiety can make it challenging to relax and quieten the mind, making it difficult to fall asleep.

Worries, racing thoughts, or overthinking can keep the brain active when it needs to wind down. I can certainly associate with a mind that doesn’t switch off easily.

    2. Poor Sleep Habits: Irregular sleep schedules, inconsistent bedtime routines, excessive screen time before bed, and consuming stimulating substances like caffeine or nicotine can disrupt the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.

Other factors such as engaging in mentally or physically stimulating activities close to bedtime will also have an effect.

    3. Environmental Factors: An uncomfortable sleep environment can interfere with sleep.

Factors such as excessive noise, uncomfortable room temperature, bright lights, an uncomfortable mattress or pillow, and an uninviting bedroom can all contribute to difficulties in falling asleep.

I have to have complete silence when I go to bed. No TV is on in the background or any kind of noise that will interfere with my mind trying to switch off. Being too hot whilst trying to sleep, especially during the hotter months can be very challenging too.

The fan is helpful but it often blows the warm air around the room, thus still causing issues.

    4. Medical Conditions: Certain medical conditions can affect sleep. Examples include insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, chronic pain, gastrointestinal issues, hormonal imbalances, and psychiatric disorders such as depression or anxiety disorders.

These conditions can disrupt sleep patterns and make it difficult to initiate sleep. In today’s world, more and more people suffer from mental issues and this has a huge impact on Our sleep patterns.

Over a long period, the damage is very hard to rectify.

    5. Medications and Substances: Certain medications, such as those used to treat allergies, asthma, hypertension, or psychiatric conditions, can have stimulating effects or interfere with sleep. Additionally, substances like caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol can disrupt sleep patterns.

    6. Circadian Rhythm Disorders: Disruptions to the body’s internal clock, such as jet lag, shift work, or irregular sleep-wake schedules, can interfere with the natural sleep-wake cycle, making it difficult to fall asleep at the desired time. My son works night shifts and when he has his days off, he has to stay awake through the night still to keep the pattern of sleep going.

    7. Psychological Factors: Mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or chronic stress can contribute to sleep difficulties. These conditions can lead to racing thoughts, emotional distress, and hyperarousal, making it challenging to relax and initiate sleep.

It’s important to identify the underlying causes of sleep difficulties to address them appropriately.

If sleep problems persist and significantly impact daily functioning, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional or a sleep specialist for further evaluation and guidance.

They can provide personalized recommendations and interventions to improve sleep quality.

    The Five Most Expensive Candles

While most people will look for affordable candles, such as tea lights, we’ll look at the five most expensive candles available today for a bit more glamour. In 2022, we saw a rise in candle purchases due to increased gas and electricity bills. Shoppers are looking for ways to heat their homes without switching on the heating while also making them feel cosy and surrounded by pleasant scents.

    The five most expensive candles

We already know that we will pay more for designer products, so it’s good to shop around and visit places like eBay for a price reduction.

Whenever we purchase products from the named websites, we know it will cost considerably more.

    Why are designer candles expensive?

Designers start with high-quality waxes for their candles, which are better for the environment and our health. They don’t emit excess carbon like paraffin candles.

If we shop for plant-based waxes such as beeswax or soya, this will be reflected in our pay.

By using expensive materials, we, as the customers, are then paying for the experience of having a candle that burns evenly, is healthier for our environment and our health, and we have a candle that gives off a continuous scent.

Designers will use top-quality fragrances in their candles, reflecting the price.

They will also use high-end packaging, top-quality candle wax, and an elegant jar so that the candle can burn safely inside.

Every part of creating some of the world’s most expensive candles will go through a very vigorous process that costs a lot of money with each element of its manufacture.

Designers will also use pure essential oils instead of artificial oils for their fragrance, so we can see why we pay so much more than the cheaper, everyday candles. The jar is another costly part of the product. They are bulky and heavy and will cost more to ship. The benefit of purchasing expensive candles is that they don’t need to be lit for hours for the scent to fill the room in your home.

Made with eco-soya wax and a floral, fresh fragrance, this candle burns for approximately 40 hours. The elegant pot can be repurposed after the candle has been used.

    Gucci

Another name that screams ‘power’ and ‘expense’ is Gucci.

Everyone has heard of this Italian luxury fashion house. Gucci Gucci founded the company in 1921 and has expanded over the years, creating everything from top-quality handbags to luxury perfume and extravagant clothes.

Unsurprisingly, the Fumus Star Eye candle will cost you around £500! That’s a candle with a designer name tag. This candle has a very unusual look.

The porcelain lid has a fist tightly gripped around a loop for ease when taking the lid off the candle, and it is part of a theme that runs across this candle collection.

    Christmas Candle Holders

Any home is made beautiful with the addition of candles to bring the cosy nights, so with Christmas fast approaching, we sneak a look at Christmas candle holders.

    Christmas candle holders

For many of us, candles are lit all year round, whether in the garden during BBQ season or to add extra comfort and warmth during the winter months.

Cosy-lit fires, candles burning, and the tree lit up in all its glory bring the magic of Christmas to life for families all over the world.

During the festive season, many candles, from tea lights to large pillar candles, are on sale. They come in a variety of shapes, colours, and sizes to suit everyone.

I’ve noticed one thing when shopping for candles: Some of them don’t always come with a holder.

We know that candles such as Yankee are already contained in their glass jars, and some of the smaller candles may come in suitable jars that can be reused.

What about those needing to sit in a holder before lit?

    Christmas candle holders

    Christmas candle holders

As previously discussed in my article on flameless candles, candle pots, pillar, floating, and jar candles also come with their container.

Choosing ones not already moulded inside their container means we must shop for suitable jars and trays to light the candle safely.

At Christmas, we usually see the table decorations set out with table runners and centrepiece candles to bring the festivities into the home. There are some lovely ideas online to choose from.

Companies have become very creative, and some unusual styles are available.

Tea lights are hugely popular and are possibly the most affordable.

They come as batter-operated (flameless) or lit candles, and you can have single holders or a larger centre piece where the holder will sit several tea lights at one time. They also come in several different colours and scents to suit your choice. Their particular styles bring warmth and a magical feeling into the home during the festive period.

    Taper candle holder

If you want a unique candle holder, this style brings a more retro and Gothic-like feel. Depending on your home decor, it can give a lot of character to the room. It uses the candlestick design, which comes in a variety of colours.

Some will be decorated with a Christmas theme, and some will have the days of December engraved on them so that you burn a section each day as Christmas nears. These are called advent candles and are non-drip, tapered candles with a burn time of 12 hours.

    Stainless steel lantern candle holder

These are some of my favourites because of the elegance they bring into the home. They are best suited for pillar candles.

They come in various sizes depending on where you want them in the home and give off a good amount of light due to their size.

The large ones are suitable for sitting in floor space, perhaps by fire, for that extra cosiness.

This style is also suitable for use outside on the patio during the summer or winter for extra light on a cold evening.

They come with a carry handle, which allows you to hang them from a hook off the garden fence and makes it easier to transport them from one area to another.

Create a festive atmosphere this Christmas with our extra-large tall glass lanterns. These lanterns are perfect for placing on the floor and can hold tea light candles to illuminate any room. They are designed to add a cosy touch to your holiday decor.

  • Advent calendar,  Candles,  Christmas gifts,  How to give the perfect gift

    Candle Advent Calendar

Christmas approaches again as 2023 ends, and we start looking for gifts for loved ones. A popular choice for Christmas of late is the candle advent calendar. As previously discussed in my article Perfume Advent Calendar, we already know just how popular these calendars are.

    Candle advent calendar
The streets of London in the UK are always bustling at this time of year photo©️fragranceswithlove.com

It has become a tradition to purchase one to count the days before Christmas, especially for children. There was always something magical about opening a window each morning to see which chocolate was inside. The excitement of getting nearer to the number 24 window was always more significant than the rest, and having more giant chocolate inside to enjoy.

    Candle advent calendar

The days seem to have passed for the chocolate variety. However, they are still widely available for everyone and mainly cater to young children, with different cartoon designs to encourage purchase.

Nowadays, the market has made room for a unique and elegant choice: gifts hidden behind each window instead of traditional chocolate.

    Candle advent calendar

As much as we all love a chocolate treat from the 1st to the 24th of December, as we get older, we are keen on different things, and there are so many ideas that companies put behind their Advent windows—very inspirational.

Behind each window are gifts that will suit anyone, regardless of age or gender, and we are spoilt for choice.

    Beauty

It is ideal for the females in the family who love a selection of make-up items to add to their collection. Women and teenagers can never have too much make-up.

    Perfume

These have been very popular over the past few years, and most will have a small sample behind each window and a whole bottle of perfume behind window number 24.

FM World has customised gift boxes that can be created especially with your loved one in mind. The Gift Box contains a Pure Royal 50 ml of your choice, a Pure Royal Antiperspirant Stick of your choice, and a Pure Royal Solid Perfume Stick of your choice—a small Gift Box.

    Candle advent calendar

    Skincare

Most of us get a skincare product as a Christmas gift, so having a mini selection in your calendar is a great idea. It’s also ideal to take away for travelling.

    Baby items

Perfect for any new mums with newborns around Christmas time, these calendars contain essential items for babies. They will be essential for mum and baby and will be put to good use.

    Lego

If you have a child or children who love Lego as much as my children did when they were younger, this one is a great option. Children learn so much through Lego play, including motor skills and being creative with their building.

    Fidget toys

Many children of all ages today use fidget toys as part of their everyday lives. These toys are especially suited and created for those on the spectrum, so a calendar with an extensive selection behind each window will light up their faces. These gadgets are colourful, calming, and keep the user focused.

    Grooming

Grooming products are another perfect gift for men, as we know how complex buying can be. No more walking endlessly around the stores or searching online for a gift that could be a hit or miss to whether the men will like what’s been bought for them.

    Wine

Not many will refuse an advent calendar with small bottles of wine behind it. Although I am not a drinker, I know a few family members who would love this style as a gift.

    Biscuits

Biscuits are always a popular choice at Christmas, and many families will buy the traditional tin, so if you have any biscuit lovers that would appreciate this as a gift, then look into buying one.

    Jam

I love jam, and many other adults and children love jars of jam. Behind each window, a pot of different-flavoured jam sounds like a great treat.

    Cheese

Another popular tradition at Christmas is purchasing an assortment of cheeses in the supermarkets before the big day. The great thing about many cheeses is that they have a reasonable shelf life.

As you would expect, these advent calendars are more expensive than the chocolate variety, but seeing what we get when each advent window is opened is worth the money.

Many companies, including Yankee Candles, have created a Christmas calendar for this year. Yankee candles are already popular because of their quality, burn time, and scent.

This delightful gift box would make a wonderful gift for someone or even as a treat for yourself. The box opens just like a book and won’t look out of place on the mantlepiece or coffee table.

  • Candles

    Flameless Candles

We all love candles as they set the mood for a cosy winter evening and add an atmosphere for a garden party during the summer months. Flameless candles are just as popular and are a great alternative to a live flickering flame.

    Flameless candles

The benefits of using flameless candles

    Affordable

Whenever we shop online for burning candles, they range in price from affordable to top-end expensive so that a flameless candle will be accessible on the purse strings.

    A range of colours

We often purchase candles to match our mood or home decor.

I have colour-coordinated, scented candles at home, which create an atmosphere and add warmth during winter.

    Child friendly

We all know the importance of safety around lit candles, especially if you have pets or young children.

Flameless candles are perfect for use around the home when young ones are running around, as there is no danger from accidents such as touching a naked flame or being knocked over.

    Long-lasting

Even though naked-flamed candles last a very long time when lit ( around 30-40 burn time hours ), there is no concern about how long a flameless candle will last as it runs on LED batteries.

    No melting

Unlike the traditional candles that we light, flameless candles do not melt.

They won’t melt into a distorted shape or make any mess from the wax on the surface from melting.

    Flameless candles

    Add lighting

During the winter months, it is widespread to use candles to give a room extra lighting so that we can switch off lamps that aren’t necessary to keep on.

This is certainly a way forward for every homeowner, especially during these times when our electric bills have skyrocketed. It is a popular choice for keeping your home warm during winter.

    Flame mimicking

The wonderful thing about flameless candles is that they look authentic, and the flame flickers like a real wax candle.

    Non-polluting

Another great reason to purchase these types of candles is that there is no pollution when they are burning.

    Flameless candles

You can check out my article, Luxury Candles, on lit candles and the best types to buy to avoid pollution from naked flame candles.

    Transforms the room

Most of us buy candles to enhance our homes and transform any room.

Whether scented or not, a lit candle creates a beautiful atmosphere, transforming dark winter nights into cosy, warm evenings.

    Affiliate disclosure

    Flameless candles

    Suitable for indoor and outdoor

During the summer, we often light a candle, especially the scented type, to keep the insects at bay when the barbecue food is being cooked.

Another great idea for using flameless candles in the garden is that if there is a slight breeze, the flame won’t blow out, creating an atmosphere for your guests.

    Flameless candle

    Work by LED battery

LED lights are safe to use anywhere in the home, and you won’t have to worry about blowing out the candle if you accidentally leave it lit. Flameless candles work with an LED battery and can last up to 250 hours on batteries.

    Flameless candle

    Different sizes

We don’t always want a large candle sitting out of place on the mantelpiece, so having the option of different sizes means we can choose the most suitable size for our home.

    Scented and unscented

Not everyone wants a candle with a scent. Some may be allergic to popular scents such as vanilla or lavender. If you have any allergies, choose an unscented candle or a delicately scented candle.

Flameless candles don’t have as strong a scent as naked flame candles.

    Flameless candles

    Remote control

The flameless candles come with a remote control to change the colour of the flame.

Another great idea is to create a certain atmosphere in a particular room, for example, if there is a colour theme for a party or a wedding.

    Real wax

Many are made with natural wax to maintain their authenticity. No one wants a plastic-looking candle that looks bad in the home.

    Using essential oils

Some can be used with your favourite essential oils to bring a wonderful fragrance to the home or at an event. Some flameless candles are infused with scent for that added fragrance that’s not overpowering—just subtle, beautiful, and safe to use.

    Flameless candles

    Timer

Some candles have a timer facility, too, so you can set when they switch on or off. It’s a great addition, especially if you’re out and you want people to think someone is home.

It’s cheaper than putting a lamp on a timer. Some also come with different flame styles to create the perfect mood.

    Ideal setting

A flameless candle is the perfect solution if you’re getting married and want a table decoration candle to set the scene and atmosphere.

No stress and worry over the candle being knocked over and something catching fire.

Choose ones with the colour change remote, and you can personalise your evening venue with a colour to match your theme.

    FM Candle 413 Review

If you’re familiar with FM World’s perfumes and scents, you will already know about the candles they have created. FM candle 413 is one of the most popular in the range, and it’s easy to see why.

In my previous articles, you will learn that the fragrance notes of designer perfumes inspire our fragrances.

I have already covered this in my review of FM 413 perfume from the Pure Royal range, and this will tell you that the fragrance notes are inspired by La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme.

This is a hugely popular fragrance in its own right.

Not just for the elegance of Julia Roberts, who endorses the product, but also for the floral and sweet fragrance notes that uplift and relax us.

    FM 413 candle fragrance notes

    ■ Blackcurrant

    ■ Pear

    ■ Iris

    ■ Jasmine

    ■ Orange blossom

    ■ Chocolate pralines

    ■ Patchouli

    ■ Vanilla

The FM 413 candle has the same fragrance notes as the popular FM 413 fragrance.

    Fm candle 413 review

The scent is so wonderfully fruity that others will ask what fragrance it is.

It’s not difficult to see why this scented candle is just as favoured and a big seller within FM WORLD.

Candles are popular, primarily through the winter, and make our homes feel cosy and smell nice. With the simplistic jar that FM WORLD’s candles elegantly show off, they will suit any home.

    Why do we love candles?

The flame alone on a candle can be mesmerising, and there is something about watching a flame burn on a winter’s evening.

The dancing shadows that a flame creates in a darkened room and the atmosphere of the ambience that they set around us is magical.

Candles can bring warmth, colour, and romance to any room and are suitable for any occasion.

People have them as table decorations at their wedding, tea light candles in the bathroom to set the mood for a relaxing soak, and many like the idea that candles bring a sense of calm to the home.

A romantic evening for two with a candle lit on the dining table can also be enchanting. Candles also give any room in the home a focal point.

    FM candle 413 review

Scented candles in your living room create the perfect ambience for a relaxing evening. They are elegant and subtle when other lights are switched off. Many people use candles for aromatherapy, especially scents such as lavender.

This flower has relaxing and healing properties and can help to relax the body and mind at the end of a busy day.

As we approach Christmas, spices like cinnamon, apple, and berries are popular in scented candles in the winter months.

This brings the season to life and a winter feel.

Do you struggle with finding a gift for someone?

Candles are a great present to purchase. You don’t have to worry about whether it will fit the person you bought it for, whether it will suit their home, or whether they like candles.

The majority of people do. It’s even better if you know what type of fragrance notes the person likes, but even if you don’t, buying a subtle candle scent is always gratefully received.

Candles and music go perfectly together, so if you want to create a romantic evening, soft music playing with a scented candle burning is sure to bring magic and romance into the home.

Lit candles in the home can bring everyone together. Sitting in the living room watching a film, with no lights except candles burning, can create a great sense of happiness, calm, and peace.

Candle sales have always been popular, and not just for the winter months. Many of us use candles all year round for different purposes, and they will stay around for many more years.

    Related article: Summer scented candles

If you were to Google candles, you would face thousands of pages talking about candles in every sense.

With the different types, designs, and smells, you will find affordable candles and top-end expensive ones.

Whenever I speak to candle lovers, I tell them to burn their candles rather than leave them collecting dust on the shelf.

So many people have candles in their homes that they haven’t burned, and that’s usually because the candle looks too pretty or cost a fair bit of money to purchase, and they don’t want to ‘waste’ it.

    FM candle 413 review

If you buy scented candles, you won’t benefit from the scent if you never light them.

If you want a candle simply for decoration, there are unscented and cheaper options if you’d like to use candles just as a display.

Unscented tea light candles are a great option as these are very affordable to purchase and usually come in a bag of 25/50 tea lights.

They are ideal at the dining table, where you don’t want a strong scent spoiling your meal.

    Preparing your FM 413 candle

FM World wants every customer to experience a candle that meets strict requirements for burning correctly, with minimal smouldering and reduced soot, and uses hydro-refined paraffin.

Each candle has a strong cotton wick that is resistant to breaking and drowning in the melted wax. Everyone wants a candle that burns evenly and looks elegant.

Candles have often been purchased, not adequately prepared before light, and therefore burned into a ‘tunnel’.

Top tips for getting the most out of your scented candles

    FM candle 413 review
    FM candle 413 review

    ■ Try to avoid buying candles where the wick is uneven and not centered.

    ■ Make sure you trim the wick before you burn the candle.

    ■ Place your lit candle away from any drafts, as any slight air in the atmosphere can disturb the flame and result in the candle burning unevenly.

Avoid burning your candle for too long.

This will build carbon on the wick so the candle can become distorted, and the flame burns irregularly.

Not only does this ruin the beautiful candle you just purchased, but it also creates soot, which is unsuitable for your home or health.

    ■ Ideally, you should burn a candle for a maximum of four hours at a time. Blow out the candle and give it time to cool down and reshape before relighting.

Each candle has a burn time between 35 and 40 hours. That’s a long burn time!

Our home can be filled with a fantastic scent that matches our fragrance and is instantly recognised as soon as we enter the house.

FM 413 candle fills your home with a beautiful combination of oriental notes that bring the room to life and burns a delightful scent that isn’t overpowering or too strong.

What Perfume Does Kate Middleton Wear

What perfume does Kate Middleton wear? On September 19th, the nation celebrated the life and bid an emotional farewell to Her Royal Highness and laid her to rest. We saw a new King (King Charles III) and a new Prince and Princess of Wales.

Watching the royals look dignified and graceful, we’re curious about what fragrance the new Princess of Wales wears.

As discussed in our recent article What perfume did Queen Elizabeth wear, our attention was very much drawn to the beauty and elegance of our new Princess.

What perfume does Kate Middleton wear

There will be many women, I’m sure, who look up to our Princess of Wales and admire her complexion and beautiful locks.

Kate always stands out in the crowd elegantly, so it’s no surprise that she chooses a beautiful scent to match her sparkle and beauty.

Being one of the most talked about women in the world, Kate has influenced those around her, not just with her sense of style but with her choice of perfume.

According to sources, she created her wedding around this beautifully fruity scent and wore it daily, not just for royal duties.

Whilst Kate’s signature perfume may set you back a little with its ‘Royal’ price tag, especially if you purchase from the designer’s website, she certainly has a wonderful eye and nose for gorgeous fragrances when choosing her favourite perfume.

    Jo Malone-Orange Blossom

Kate Middleton (now known as The Princess of Wales) is a big fan of Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom.

This fragrance, launched in 2003 by Jean Claude Delville, brings the delights of a summer garden to life with its excellent selection of ingredients.

It is also one of the most popular scents worn by many celebrities, including Emilia Fox and Katie Holmes.

Although a very floral and elegant spring/summer scent, Orange Blossom is a unisex fragrance. Therefore, it has a great balance of notes that make it suitable for both men and women.

Jo Malone has created a unique scent that works wonderfully as a unisex choice.

When we have citrus-based fragrances, a distinctive mood-lifting vibe is instantly created.

Orange blossom is a prevalent perfume scent.

Citrus scents are perfect for spring and summer occasions. Their sharp and tangy notes create energy, happiness, and memories.

We must choose the right scent for our skin, as not everyone suits the same scent.

We should also choose a fragrance that is uplifting and memorable for ourselves. A scent that reminds others of our presence also shows a great choice of perfume.

Fragrances notes of Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom

    Top notes: Tangerine Blossom

Heart notes: Orange blossom, water lily and lilac

    Base notes: Vetiver and Iris

Although this perfume sits within the oriental fragrance family, as soon as it is sprayed, there is an instant whiff of orange and citrus fruits.

The heart notes pop through as the top notes settle, and the lilac is very noticeable with the water lily. The base note of Vetiver is a stunning scent, which is another reason why this fragrance is so popular.

There is a distinctive smell of freshness as the notes settle on the skin, which is why it is such a versatile perfume. Some may be led to believe that it is too fruity or feminine to be suitable for a male wearer.

Once the heart and base notes settle and are left for the remainder of their longevity, it’s easy to learn why it is just as famous for men when the crisp freshness sits wonderfully on the skin for that touch of masculinity.

Being one of the most popular scents from the Jo Malone collection, another advantage of such a popular fragrance is that you can bring this gorgeous scent into your home and garden with its added selection of products.

Jo Malone has also created a candle, diffuser, solid perfume scent, body and hand wash, and body crème in the same fragrance. Just delightful!

    Candle

Everyone loves a candle. Indoors or outside, candles give a sense of calmness, warmth and relaxation.

With such notes as mentioned above, the Jo Malone candle enriches the home with the same beautiful freshness.

With its elegant and simplistic jar, it will suit any home. It has a burn time of approximately 45 hours, with a lid included for when it’s not used.

    Diffuser

Many people have reed diffusers around their homes, creating a fantastic atmosphere, whatever the season.

    Body and hand wash

If you’re fortunate enough to use scented body lotions as part of your daily skincare without any allergies ( I have to use unscented to avoid water infections), this stylish bottle will be a great accessory to your bathroom.

The Jo Malone body and hand wash are refreshing, with meadowfoam seed oil (extracted from the seeds of Limnanthes Alba). It has a hint of shimmering orange blossom and warm undertones of orris and balsamic vetiver.

This lotion will leave the skin feeling soft and conditioned as it emulsifies into a rich lather.

It not only makes your skin smell gorgeous but also brings an element of freshness and an uplifting scent to the bathroom.

    Body cream

The Jo Malone body cream contains conditioning oils of jojoba, sweet almond, and cocoa seeds to help hydrate and protect the skin. It also has a beautiful hint of orange blossom fragrance to balance out your perfume.

    Luxury Candles And Their Benefits

Luxury candles have always been popular; surprisingly, they are not too expensive. We all like luxury now and then, whether it’s a holiday, a new perfume or an item of clothing. It’s the feel-good factor of purchasing something.

Retail therapy may have moved more online over the past few years, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from buying the occasional treat. Everyone loves candles. Whatever the time of year or season, they bring charm and cosiness to any home.

    Luxury candle brands

Many people have been using them throughout the summer months. They brighten the garden during warm evenings and help keep pesky insects at bay—a must while we’ve enjoyed BBQs and outdoor space for several months.

I love candles for their fragrance and the tranquillity of watching them burn, especially on a cold winter’s evening.

Some might say they are too nice to burn, but I see little point in having a candle that collects dust, so strike a match, pop one in your lounge/dining room, wherever you wish, and enjoy the atmosphere they create. I’m sure many luxury candles are sitting in someone’s home that has never been lit.

We don’t buy candles to keep as dust collectors, and every day we wake up and breathe is a special day, so go ahead and light that candle.

    What are luxury candles?

Such a word can be misleading, yet it doesn’t have to mean expensive to purchase. Candles are labelled as luxury because of the fine ingredients used in their production. Many are affordable and generally last longer, too, so the money you pay goes that much further.

Unlike luxury perfumes that can carry an eye-watering price tag if you purchase high-quality designer brands, candles are made with better ingredients and longer wicks. Their price doesn’t appear to reflect as much as perfumes do.

Luxury candles usually use top-quality soy, beeswax, or coconut wax. Paraffin wax has a lower price tag so that the candles won’t burn for as long.

Many candles are made with a combination of ingredients, and luxury candles rarely contain tallow. Tallow is a complex, fatty substance derived from animals used to make candles and soap bars.

The best ingredient for a luxury candle is to purchase one that uses soy wax. Yes, it is more expensive, but you will find that those candles made with such ingredients will burn more evenly, and you won’t see as much smoke or soot as you would from cheaper brands.

Many times, we have all purchased candles at the cheaper end of our budget, and after a few hours of burning the wick, the candle burns unevenly and produces a lot of smoke and toxic fumes.

Some candles will have ingredients such as coconut oil or beeswax.

The benefits of using soy candles

Soy candles are non-toxic, so you know that as soon as you light the wick, the candle won’t release any toxins into the air. However, it is worth considering the environment when purchasing certain types of candles.

If you are a pet owner, it is much more beneficial for the animal to have a healthier and cleaner option in your candle product. We know that soy wax candles are made of plants, so they won’t release harmful toxins into the atmosphere, so your pets will be safe.

Whilst soy wax candles are a better choice for your home, they still impact the environment. They contribute to deforestation, affecting animals that live on the surrounding land, those that use trees as their habitat, and aquatic life.

That said, they are still one of the most popular when it comes to candle production.

Pros and cons of buying paraffin wax candles

Paraffin wax has benefits when used therapeutically (it increases blood flow, relaxes muscles and joints, and relieves body pain).

Paraffin wax also has cosmetic benefits, such as moisturizing the skin to keep it soft and supple. However, with the good also comes the bad. Paraffin wax contains harmful toxins.

If you have ever burned a paraffin candle, you may already have noticed the soot deposited onto your furniture or interior walls. It is not a pleasant sight and can be difficult to remove.

When you burn a paraffin wax candle, it is similar to burning petroleum, the same fumes we get from our cars, as paraffin is a component of petroleum. Such fumes can quickly enter the lungs and become a big issue, especially in children.

If we use paraffin wax, our environment suffers, too. As it is a petroleum-based source, it harms the environment, just as car fumes impact our world. Paraffin’s components make it highly flammable, making it not a safe item to have in your home.

Once lit, there is no control over how that candle will burn.

    The benefits of beeswax

Beeswax is an eco-friendly and better option. It is 100% natural and a renewable source. When you burn a candle made of beeswax, it does not produce smoke or soot and, therefore, burns much cleaner.

The pros and cons of buying coconut wax

Coconut wax is cleaner and more sustainable than soy candles when burning candles. It burns more slowly, and the fragrance in a coconut wax candle will fill your home with a beautiful scent. Coconut wax is eco-friendly and suitable for vegans who may prefer not to buy beeswax.

Coconut wax is more expensive than the other wax candles listed because it has a better environmental impact, a safer burn, and no toxic fumes.

It can be hard to find a candle made of pure coconut wax, as many candles use different types of wax when they are created.

Many candles contain a mixture of wax to prevent the candle from tunnelling when it is burning and to slow the burn.

    Luxury candle brands

Some may be led to believe that coconut wax candles smell of coconut. And a scented candle will be just that, unscented. It’s not until the fragrances are added to that wax that you appreciate the scents available.

    Wicks

If you are buying a candle with a cotton wick, it is essential to trim it. This will help the candle burn and prevent carbon and soot buildup. You will still experience a good fragrance from the candle. You may notice that some candles have quite a long wick, and people often forget to trim them before lighting.

If lit without trimming, they will burn faster, have a hotter flame, and produce more soot.

Candles are often like expensive perfume. We only use them for special occasions, but what if you could buy a candle that smells the same as your perfume and at a price you can afford?
