    Winter scented candles

Winter-scented candles are popular during the colder months and are designed to kindle the cosy, festive, and comforting atmosphere of winter. We all love the seasons for what they bring individually, and winter will always see a huge collection of beautiful candles available in the shops to purchase as gifts or for our personal use.

Such candles are often used to add warmth and atmosphere to homes during the holiday season and throughout winter, so let’s take a deeper look into winter-scented candles.

    Candle fragrances

Winter candles come in a wide range of fragrances, but they often feature scents associated with the season, such as pine, cedar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, cranberry, peppermint, and various citrus notes. These scents remind us of holiday decorations, family time together, and the crispness of winter air as the seasons change.

Many winter candles are themed around holidays like Christmas or New Year’s. They may have names and labels that reflect these types of holidays and often come in festive colours such as red, green and gold and packaging to make them more appealing to the consumer.

They are typically made from a blend of wax, such as soy wax, paraffin wax, or beeswax and infused with essential oils, fragrance oils, or a combination of both to create the desired scents.

    Making your own candles

Most homes, including my own, have candles. Many are bought from shops or online but there are several reasons why making your own candles can be a rewarding and worthwhile project.

It doesn’t matter what season we are in, candles are the added accessory to the home that can bring warmth, joy and peace around us.

There are such a variety of candles available to purchase nowadays and prices from very low to expensive so we thought we would take a look into a way of making your own candles.

    making your own candles
Handmade candles can be infused with petals, crystals and essential oils

7 reason why you should make your own candles

Creative Expression: Making your own candles allows you to unleash your creativity. You have the freedom to choose the wax, fragrances, colors, and container styles that align with your personal preferences and home decor.

You can experiment with different combinations to create unique and customized candles that reflect your individuality. If you’ve ever looked on Pinterest, there are some wonderful ideas on how to create your own candles.

    Making your own candles

Cost-Effective: DIY candle making can be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing commercially made candles. By buying the necessary materials in bulk, you can save money in the long run.

Additionally, homemade candles make great gifts for family and friends, saving you from buying expensive store-bought presents.

So many people buy expensive candles and never burn them because they feel its a waste of money. By keeping a candle unlit, means that you won’t appreciate the scent that’s captured within the wax and smell its fragrance.

Quality Control: When you make your own candles, you have full control over the quality of ingredients used. You can choose natural and eco-friendly waxes like soy or beeswax, which are renewable resources and emit fewer toxins compared to some petroleum-based candles.

You can also select high-quality fragrance oils or essential oils to ensure a pleasant scent without harmful additives. This is ideal for anyone in your household that enjoys the scent of candles but suffers with the toxins when its burning.

    Making your own candles

Customisation: One of the significant advantages of making your own candles is the ability to customize them according to your preferences.

You can create candles with specific scents, colours, and container styles to match different moods, occasions, or seasons. Whether you want calming lavender candles for relaxation or festive cinnamon-scented candles for the holidays, the possibilities are endless.

The aroma and warm glow of candles can create a soothing ambiance, promoting relaxation and stress relief in your home. Something that we all strive for especially during current times.

    Making your own candles

Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly: By making your own candles, you can contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. Using natural waxes, reusable containers, and eco-friendly materials reduces your environmental impact compared to buying disposable or heavily packaged candles.

You can also recycle or up cycle containers and re purpose old candles, minimizing waste. This topic is huge in the world now and we should all do our bit to help the environment.

Sense of Accomplishment: Making something with your own hands can be incredibly fulfilling. Seeing your finished candles, enjoying their fragrance, and basking in the soft glow can give you a sense of pride and accomplishment.

It’s a tangible result of your creativity and effort. Just like the days of being at school and making something from scratch. It’s a wonderful feeling when we have created something ourselves.

Overall, making your own candles allows you to personalize your living space, save money, control the quality of ingredients, and engage in a satisfying and creative hobby, as well as being a rewarding activity.

    – Use a wick sticker or a small amount of hot glue to secure the wick at the bottom center of the container.

    – Place a wick holder across the top of the container to keep the wick centered and straight.

    4. Melt the wax:

    – Set up a double boiler by filling a saucepan with water and placing a heat-safe container on top. Alternatively, use a heat-safe container directly on a saucepan.

    – Cut the wax into small chunks for faster melting.

    – Place the wax in the top container or saucepan and heat it over medium heat until it melts completely.

    – Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature and ensure it doesn’t exceed the wax’s melting point. Different waxes have different melting points.

    5. Add fragrance and color (optional):

    – If you want scented candles, add fragrance oils or essential oils to the melted wax. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended usage rate for the oil.

    – If desired, add candle dye or colorants to achieve your desired colour. Start with a small amount and adjust as needed.

    6. Pour the wax:

    – Allow the melted wax to cool slightly to avoid excessive heat when pouring.

    – Slowly pour the melted wax into the prepared containers, being careful not to disturb the wick.

    – Leave some space at the top to allow for any shrinkage during cooling.

    7. Cool and cure:

    – Let the candles cool and solidify completely. This process may take a few hours or overnight.

    – Trim the wicks to a suitable length (about ¼ inch or 0.6 cm) using scissors.

    8. Clean up:

    – Clean your tools and equipment while the candles are cooling. Wax can be difficult to remove once it hardens.

    9. Enjoy your homemade candles:

    – Once the candles have cured, they are ready to be used. Light them and enjoy the cozy ambiance they create in your home.

    Candles that help you sleep

There are various reasons why some individuals may struggle at bedtime to switch off for a restful night. Whilst many of us battle with how to fight this issue, there are candles that help you sleep.

Here are a few common factors that can contribute to difficulty falling asleep:

    1. Stress and Anxiety: High levels of stress or anxiety can make it challenging to relax and quieten the mind, making it difficult to fall asleep.

Worries, racing thoughts, or overthinking can keep the brain active when it needs to wind down. I can certainly associate with a mind that doesn’t switch off easily.

    2. Poor Sleep Habits: Irregular sleep schedules, inconsistent bedtime routines, excessive screen time before bed, consuming stimulating substances like caffeine or nicotine can disrupt the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.

Other factors such as engaging in mentally or physically stimulating activities close to bedtime will also have an effect.

    3. Environmental Factors: An uncomfortable sleep environment can interfere with sleep.

Factors such as excessive noise, uncomfortable room temperature, bright lights, an uncomfortable mattress or pillow, and an uninviting bedroom can all contribute to difficulties in falling asleep.

I have to have complete silence when I go to bed. No TV on in the background or any kind of noise that will interfere with my mind trying to switch off. Being too hot whilst trying to sleep, especially during the hotter months can be very challenging too.

The fan is helpful but it often blows the warm air around the room, thus still causing issues.

    4. Medical Conditions: Certain medical conditions can affect sleep. Examples include insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, chronic pain, gastrointestinal issues, hormonal imbalances, and psychiatric disorders such as depression or anxiety disorders.

These conditions can disrupt sleep patterns and make it difficult to initiate sleep. In today’s world, more and more people suffer with mental issues and this has a huge impact on Our sleep pattern.

Over a long period of time, the damage is very hard to rectify.

    5. Medications and Substances: Certain medications, such as those used to treat allergies, asthma, hypertension, or psychiatric conditions, can have stimulating effects or interfere with sleep. Additionally, substances like caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol can disrupt sleep patterns.

    6. Circadian Rhythm Disorders: Disruptions to the body’s internal clock, such as jet lag, shift work, or irregular sleep-wake schedules, can interfere with the natural sleep-wake cycle, making it difficult to fall asleep at the desired time. My son works night shifts and when he has his days off, he has to stay awake though the night still to keep the pattern of sleep going.

    7. Psychological Factors: Mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or chronic stress can contribute to sleep difficulties. These conditions can lead to racing thoughts, emotional distress, and hyper arousal, making it challenging to relax and initiate sleep.

It’s important to identify the underlying causes of sleep difficulties in order to address them appropriately.

If sleep problems persist and significantly impact daily functioning, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional or a sleep specialist for further evaluation and guidance.

They can provide personalized recommendations and interventions to improve sleep quality.

When using candles for better sleep, it’s important to ensure safety and proper usage.

    ■ Consider using candle holders or diffusers designed for safe candle usage.

    ■ Extinguish candles before going to bed to avoid any fire hazards.

Remember that while candles can create a relaxing ambiance, they should be used as part of a comprehensive sleep routine.

One that includes other sleep-promoting practices, such as maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, creating a comfortable sleep environment, and practicing relaxation techniques before bedtime.

    Christmas incense sticks

December is a wonderful time of year that brings families together, crackling fires and gorgeous aromas in the home.

    Christmas incense sticks
    Photo©️fragranceswithlove.com

Christmas incense sticks are just as popular as scented candles and there are some beautiful scents to choose from as we head into a favourite time of year for many.

Whilst incense sticks give off a lovely variety of scents, it’s important to know that they are not as good for those who suffer with respiratory issues so just be mindful when purchasing.

The smoke that comes off of an incense stick can aggravate the chest so if, like myself, you are asthmatic, you are best to avoid these and have scented candles or reed diffusers in the home instead.

What are incense sticks made from?

Incense sticks are made of a variety of materials that include bamboo, wood and herbs.
Depending on the type of material used will determine how well and efficient it burns. Bamboo is a popular choice as it burns slowly and evenly.
Those that contain a strong scent are made from resins and herbs. For a more subtle and delicate scent in the home, choose ones that are made from wood or bamboo.
Incense sticks burn more quickly than a candle and therefore you will use more but they do tend to be cheaper to purchase than you average candle so you won’t mind burning a few throughout the day.
If you buy good quality ones, the burn time will vary from 30 to 60 minutes. Some may even last for up to 2 hours.
Incense sticks do have a stronger scent than the cones that are available on the market and will produce more smoke.
They are super easy to use, being lit directly with a naked flame. Once lit, a gentle blow of the flame to extinguish it and the stick will begin to burn with a delicate glow.
A suitable holder is just as important as the sticks themselves. They need to fit for purpose without the stick, falling over and able to catch the falling ash as it burns.
    Christmas incense sticks

    Safely first

The same rule applies with lit candles. It is important to place the incense stick in a safe place where there are no droughts, out of the reach of young children and pets and somewhere safe that they won’t be accidentally knocked over.

The benefits of burning incense sticks

Just like candles, wax melts and reed diffusers, there are great benefits if using incense sticks and not just for making the home smell warm and welcoming.
    Christmas incense sticks
    Relaxing
After a long day at work, a suitable scent can relieve the stresses of the day.
    Improve mental and physical well-being
A great way to clear negative energy, the scented fragrances will fill the room as soon as it is lit.
    Bring back memories
Similar to scented candles, burning an incense stick can bring back wonderful memories as we experience the scent.
    A restful nights sleep
If you suffer with insomnia then lavender is known for it’s relaxing properties and will aid in a restful nights sleep.
Far safer than lighting a candle too, if you happen to fall asleep whilst it’s still burning.
The essential oils that are used in sticks can assist in improving the air around you and therefore they are a popular choice for those in the therapeutic industry.
If you have ever booked for a massage, you will notice the soft lighting, candles lit and perhaps an incense stick burning.
They are also a popular choice for places that practice yoga, to help relax the body and mind and deepen concentration during meditation.
Instructors are mindful of what scents to burn when they use sticks in their classes and will use natural materials and delicate scents that won’t distract from the activity.
Many religious settings will burn incense sticks to create a calming and spiritual atmosphere and Christmas time will see a bigger influx in their use.

    A suitable Christmas gift

Sometimes we may struggle to buy a suitable gift for someone, so by purchasing a candle or an incense stick, this gives the perfect opportunity to give an item that we know is most likely to be used instead of put away inside the cupboard.

They are great value for money and will suit any room in the home.

There are some beautiful incense sticks holders that also come with your purchase of incense sticks and some lovely ones for Christmas time.

With the fragrances of Christmas to bring the festive season into your home and sparkling stick holders, eBay never let customers down with their variety.

You can also buy the holders separately if you want a sturdier incense stick base and some are designed to hold additional sticks for storage.

    Christmas candle holders

Any home is made beautiful with the addition of candles to bring the cosy nights, so with Christmas fast approaching, we sneak a look at Christmas candle holders.

    Christmas candle holders

For many of us, candles are lit all year round, whether it’s in the garden during BBQ season or for adding extra comfort and warmth during the winter months.

Cosy-lit fires, candles burning and the tree lit up in all its glory, brings the magic of Christmas to life for families all over the world.

During the festive season, we see lots of candles on sale, from tea lights to large pillar candles. They come in a variety of shapes, colours and sizes to suit all.

The one thing that I have noticed when I’ve been shopping for candles is that some of them don’t always come with a holder.

We know that candles such as Yankee are already contained in their glass jar and some of the smaller candles may come in a suitable jar that can be reused after.

What about those that need to sit in a holder before they’re lit?

    Christmas candle holders

    Christmas candle holders

As previously discussed in my article flameless candles, we also see candle pots, pillar, floating and jar candles that do come with their container.

Choosing ones that don’t already come moulded inside their container means that we need to shop for suitable jars and trays to safely be able to light the candle.

At Christmas, we usually see the table decorations set out with table runners and centrepiece candles to bring the festivities into the home and there are some lovely ideas online to choose from.

Companies have become very creative and there are some unusual styles available to purchase.

If you’re looking for ideas and inspiration on how to decorate your home for the festive season with candles, take a look at Christmas candle ideas.

  • Candles,  Home scents,  Scented home perfumes

    Summer scented candles

Everyone loves candles, and they’re not just for the winter months. Summer-scented candles are just as popular. We already know that candles have been around for many years and have many uses.

    Summer scented candles

Summer sees the BBQ lit, garden parties, windows and doors open, and pretty garden lights around the edges of flower beds. There’s a real chilled vibe when sitting in the garden, listening to the birds, and feeling the breeze on our skin.

Outdoor candles have their uses to keep pesky insects at bay. After you’ve spent time preparing food and eventually sit down, a fly appears before you’ve even taken the first forkful! Citronella is popular for keeping insects away from your food.

Candles also make our homes smell gorgeous, and during hot weather, we want our homes to smell fresh and cool. When we think of summer, we envision fresh-smelling flowers, citrus, and fruity scents.

Days at the beach or on holiday, sitting by the pool with an ice-cold drink, or just relaxing in the garden and listening to the birds and wildlife are the perfect ways to relax. As the temperature starts to rise and we feel like we’ve reached the summer season, we begin to look for lighter fragrance candles to match our environment.

    Seasonal candle scents

We don’t want heavy scents such as cinnamon or spices like nutmeg or ginger. These are much more suited to winter and Christmas time with their strong and crisp fragrances. So, what type of scents should we be shopping for when the weather is sunny and hot?

There are plenty of fresh, summer scents to choose from to create the perfect candle blend. Fragrance notes such as lavender, lemon, floral, citrus, and fruit make a lovely combination.

    Summer scented candles

Sometimes, we run the risk of purchasing scents that are too overpowering, even when we buy summer candles. If you have one burning in a small room at home, a candle that emits strong fruity or extremely floral scents could potentially be a bit overwhelming.

We don’t want an overload of sweetness, as it can become sickly and unpleasant. Larger rooms are better suited for stronger fragrances because they have more space to disperse their scent.

Just like perfumes and aftershave, their scents can evoke memories and happy times, making us feel good when wearing them.

The same principle applies to scented candles. They can uplift our spirits and make us feel good with their fragrances wafting through the air.

Burning a summer candle can transport you to a tropical place even when you’re sitting at home.

    Summer scented candles

Why do we use candles in the summer?

Apart from keeping pesky insects away when eating outside, scented candles are also excellent for masking unwanted odours inside and outside the home.
Entertaining friends and family is a favourite pastime during the summer months. Having a BBQ becomes especially popular when the weather warms up, but the lingering smells from cooked BBQ food or the food waste bin can be less than pleasant.
Masking these odours can make indoors and outdoors more enjoyable for hosting and relaxing as you watch the sunset with a glass of wine.
We don’t need to spend a fortune to get a lovely fragrance candle, and just a few hours of burn time will provide enough of a scent to last a few hours.

    Colonial Candle Classic Gift Tins

We often see candles in their traditional form- as a solid block of wax that requires another dish to place them in. However, this little collection of nine different scents features candles contained within very elegant tins. In this age of up-cycling, it is a wonderful idea that after the candle has burnt, you can reuse its container for something else.

    Eucalyptus Mint Candle

    Colonial Candle Classic Cylinders-

Another elegant candle is their range of cylinder-style candles. They come in two different sizes and 18 different scents, with a great choice of summer fragrances.

Grapefruit can give sharp and sweet scents at the same time. With its mixture of orange and pomelo, a wonderful fruity that makes great recipes and is found in many summer perfume fragrances.

The bright colours alone give a sense of summer and what a wonderful scent to enjoy whilst sitting in the garden.

    Travel Collection

Many of us love a holiday, especially abroad. We work throughout the year so that we have the opportunity to pack our bags and jet off to somewhere tropical.

With rising costs of holidays, some may not be able to get that far so the travel collection from Colonial Candle gives us the perfect excuse to bring the holiday vibes to our home.

Having such a great name as Santorini Sunset, we are automatically transported to a gorgeous holiday destination.

With the added scents of Valencia Orange, water lily and beach juniper, it’s not hard to bring the hot, summer vibes of somewhere like Greece or Cyprus, into our garden to enjoy.

    Designer scented candles

Designer perfumes have been so popular for many years that we now have designer-scented candles as an extension of our luxury scents. Many of us already reach for our favourite perfume scent every morning. It’s part of our wardrobe and routine around getting dressed.

Whether you work in an office, at a restaurant or in a beauty salon, there is always a place for wearing a scent. Some like their favourite fragrance so much that they extend it into their homes by buying a candle with the same notes.

With so many great candles on the market and online today, we have such a variety to choose from and they make great gifts too for any occasion.

    Tea lights

Unscented Tea lights work well if you just want to make the home feel cosy during the winter months. There are also scented candles that smell of lemongrass, apples and vanilla for that touch of fruit and sweetness in the home.

    Celebrity influenced

We know that celebrities have branched out in many directions when it comes to the beauty world. Anything from skincare, makeup and perfumes and now we have designer scented candles.

As previously discussed in my articles celebrity-endorsed perfumes and celebrity skincare, we see the fragrance industry skyrocket and continue to be just as popular today.

    Cheaper alternatives

Many shops are eager to sell top designer candles like Jo Malone at cheaper prices. Candles that smell identical to the designer perfumes.

Aldi has already seen shoppers hustling in on their range of Jo Malone for just £9.99. A 200g candle from their home collection, Oud & Bergamot.

This would set you back £62 if bought from the Jo Malone website. One may question why you would buy a £62 candle when you can purchase the same scent for £9.99.

With a burn time of 45 hours compared to 60 hours for the Aldi brand, another difference is the size of the candle. Compare Jo Malone’s 200g candle with Aldi’s 700g, 3-wick version so it’s not just the price that catches the eye.

    Designer scented candles

We all know that if we purchase any product from a designer’s website, we will pay a higher price. This leaves us looking at more affordable options, so let’s see where we can shop for some of the best designer-scented candles.

    The benefits of incense sticks

Everyone loves a scent in their home, and the benefits of incense sticks remain as popular as ever. Let’s take a look at why we use them in our everyday lives.

People have been using incense sticks as far back as 2345 BC, with their origins traced to the Egyptians.

Originally employed for religious purposes, these aromatic sticks continue to be utilized today for various reasons. They contribute to healing, evoke memories, aid in relaxation, promote calmness, and enhance concentration during activities such as meditation and yoga.

There are so many uses for them today and they have stayed as a popular home product ever since their first introduction.

    The benefits of incense sticks

Those who use them for meditation, use them as a focal point similar to those who use their breathing to focus on.

Meditation is a spiritual activity which began in India.

Burning an incense stick gives the person something to focus on. The opportunity to switch off in the same way as those who practice yoga.

It takes us to another place for that moment in time, where everything else that runs through the mind is pushed aside whilst our mind focuses on breathing techniques and the scent surrounding us.

To practice good yoga and meditation, the mind needs to switch off so burning an incense stick, allows the mind to do just that and give a different focal point.

They were originally made with natural plants and materials which were classed as medicinal.

Some will help to clear a headache and improve the immune system with their antibacterial properties and some can help to heal scars, pimples and acne. Burning your favourite scent can also help to relieve stress and anxiety.

    The benefits of incense sticks

We are surrounded by everyday stresses and worries so with the help of incense sticks giving off a calm and aromatic scent, this can help reduce the anxiety we may be feeling.

    Happy and creative vibes

Another reason why people may use them is to help with creativity. Those such as Artists may use them to help bring out their creative side. The sticks also help to bring out happiness and peace and to help stimulate the mind to be more creative.

    The benefits of incense sticks
Artists may use incense sticks to keep them in a tranquil place whilst they paint

Just like wearing your favourite perfume, having a favourable scent around you will ensure that happy vibes are at the forefront of your mind. No one ever feels in a bad mood when they are surrounded by their favourite scent.

    Deodorizing the home

One of the most common reasons why people burn them is to deodorize their homes.

    The benefits of incense sticks
Remove odours and pet smells by lighting an incense stick to waft a scent through the home

    The benefits of incense sticks

The smell of pet fur, stale food or rubbish bins can linger and give an unpleasant smell throughout the home. Read our Hoover fragrances post for another way to eliminate bad odours in the home.

Burning an incense stick gives off a more pleasant smell to mask any unwanted scents around us. They can also work well outdoors to keep insects away.

Pesky insects don’t like strong smells, especially popular ones such as lavender and citronella, which are suggested to keep them at bay.

These particular scents work well when burning them as candles too. Stores sell candles that can be used outside to keep insects away from your food during the summer months.

If you have trouble sleeping, apart from using a pillow mist spray, which helps to switch you off from everyday thoughts and relax you, incense sticks can also be used. Make sure you put out the stick safely before you sleep.

Have you ever been to a massage retreat spa? There will often be an incense stick burning in the room while you have a massage.

This helps you to focus on the fragrance of the scent and switch off the mind. By having your mind in a relaxed state, this helps the body to relax and therefore your body will benefit much more from the massage.

    Using incense sticks safely

Be extra careful when purchasing incense sticks as some are full of chemicals. Choose non-toxic brands and try to find ones that are scented naturally rather than ones that use chemical fragrances.

If you choose ones that have no core, these will have a more natural aroma and won’t smell of burning wood, away from any draft caused by open doors or windows. Keep away from curtains too.

They are very easy to use. Light the end with a match or a lighter and hold for around 10 seconds. Just long enough for the stick to ignite.

The flame more often than not will extinguish on its own. An average burning time will be around 20-30 minutes, depending on their size and thickness. If you wish to put the stick out before it has fully burnt away, then you can dip the ignited end into water.

Incense sticks do produce a lot of smoke when they burn so make sure you them in a ventilated room.

    The benefits of incense sticks
Make sure you have a suitable container for the falling ash

Be mindful that the smoke burning from an incense stick is a lung irritant, so try not to burn them too often or around those who have breathing conditions such as asthma.

    The importance of Chakra

Many of you I’m sure will have heard of Chakra. An ancient word that means ‘wheel’ and refers to the spinning vortexes of the body’s natural energy system.

Recently I have learned that my chakra has weak energy and I was absorbing energy from others as my chakra was closed. When the body is exposed to stress or depression, for example, the chakras will react and create an imbalance.

Ideally, we need all of our chakras to be open which then promotes balance and frees up energy.

    The benefits of incense sticks

There are chakra incense sticks available on eBay that have different scents and are great to use whilst practising meditation or yoga. One thing to bear in mind when using incense sticks, just like using candles, make sure you burn them in a safe environment.

Especially if you have pets or young children.

You can purchase the holders that fit an incense stick inside, to catch the falling ashes. Some are more suitable than others so shop around for the most suitable one. Some of the most popular scents are sandalwood and this scent is used for its relaxing benefits.

Lavender and patchouli scents are great for aiding a restful sleep as they put you into a deeper relaxed state to help you unwind and fall asleep faster.

Depression is such a huge topic and those who do suffer will certainly benefit from a scent such as frankincense. This fragrance activates the ion channels that will then help alleviate anxiety and depression.

    The benefits of incense sticks

Some incense sticks help kill germs in the environment and those that have antibacterial properties will boost your health. Scents such as cedar and sage are good for reducing negative energies and spirits from our surroundings.

Rose scent has been found to help and work as a mild painkiller. It can also help to lower the blood pressure and improve the mood. There are so many benefits that we can use incense sticks for and they are an affordable accessory to buy from many online and in-store retailers.

    Home perfume spray review

Working with a fragrance company has its benefits. The opportunity to try new products is a perk, and the latest addition to FM World’s lineup is their home perfume spray. We all appreciate our homes smelling fresh and clean without the need to bleach every hard surface or open all the windows just to circulate fresh air.

This is great during warmer weather, but it’s not as practical for the winter months. Maintaining a clean home in every sense provides us with a calm and relaxed state of mind.

    The smell of freshness

The added benefit of each room smelling like our favourite perfume, without actually using up a whole bottle of it, provides comfort on its own. We’ve previously discussed vacuum fresheners to enhance the home’s scent, but what do we use when the vacuum isn’t running?

There are many products on the market, such as incense sticks, scented candles, and reed diffusers, that offer a subtle hint of fragrance over a few months or when lit. However, these don’t always provide an instant whiff of scent when needed.

While scented candles work well if you’re planning to stay at home while it burns, we also need an immediate scent option, perhaps something we can spray in the room before heading off to work.

Subscribers can opt for a surprise candle in either a medium or large size each month. They fill out a scent profile, allowing us to handpick a candle tailored to their preferences.

Our partnered brands prioritize quality, featuring lead-free wicks, premium wax, and exquisitely designed containers that complement the season. These containers can be repurposed after you finish burning your candle.

It’s the perfect way to treat yourself or a loved one to the gift of me-time. Gift subscriptions are also available! We love the idea that our home can smell gorgeous as soon as we enter through the front door.

For pet owners dealing with the distinctive smell of wet fur or embedded stale odours in the carpet, it can be embarrassing if a friend is following you straight into your home.

There’s no opportunity to quickly light a candle or waft a reed diffuser in the air, hoping any slight scent will reach your guest’s nose. With a multitude of room sprays on the market, finding one to suit the individual can be challenging.

Some people don’t enjoy the typical canned air fresheners that can be a little overpowering when sprayed too much.

Products like Febreze have maintained popularity over the years and are versatile enough for use on furniture. Additionally, there are plug-in types that work effectively, though some require continuous power to trigger frequent sprays.

These plug-ins come with refill options, which can be more cost-effective, but for some individuals, the scent may still be a bit overpowering.

Not only does it provide a delicate mist that’s not too heavy, but it also offers the added benefit of allowing buyers to choose a scent with fragrance notes similar to those found in designer perfumes—fragrances that many of us wear on a day-to-day basis.

In their current 2022 range of five, there are two scents for women, one for men, and two unisex scents. This ensures there’s no need to worry about the house smelling too ‘girly’ or masculine!

They have cleverly selected scents that are already very popular as perfumes we wear. If you’re curious, you can even purchase samples of the perfumes and fragrances here.

    PURE ROYAL HOME PERFUME

    Bottle size– 250ml

    Price £28

    Rating out of 10– 9/10

While each bottle may not be the most economical purchase, it provides numerous sprays, often lasting several weeks. The longevity depends on usage frequency and the number of rooms sprayed.

Personally, I limit spraying to my dining room and lounge downstairs, just as I’m leaving home. The kitchen, being a space for cooking and eating, doesn’t require a perfume scent, nor do the bedrooms. For those areas, scented candles or fragrance sticks are more suitable.

In my home, the spray is used daily, sometimes multiple times a day. Spraying it into the air just before leaving ensures the scent lingers in the room upon return.

Given the plethora of product sprays available, choosing the best one for your home can be challenging. For pet owners, it’s essential to consider scents that aren’t too strong and won’t affect your pet’s well-being. Some sprays may linger on furniture if sprayed directly, so it’s advisable to spray into the air to prevent any residue on your furnishings.

To avoid any residue on your furnishings, it’s recommended to spray into the air rather than directly onto furniture.

Vacuum fresheners by FM World- a review

Vacuum fresheners by FM World have been hugely popular over the past few years so let’s take a look at why they are selling fast.

We spend huge amounts of money per year on fragrances for ourselves and incense sticks for the home to make ourselves and our surroundings smell fresh and clean but many will neglect their vacuum cleaners.

It’s not usually something that we think of when it comes to scents but they have become very popular of late.

Henry vacuum cleaners love the FM fragrances

Vacuum fresheners by FM World- a review
Smells from your hoover can cause a problem in the home so by using a hoover scent, this will keep both your hoover and home smelling fresh

Every time the vacuum cleaner is switched on, a build up of smells from the carpet are instantly brought to the surface when we start to clean the floors.

Daily dust, spillages, pet fur and foods all have an impact on our carpets but we don’t see what’s lurking underneath the layers.

    Pet owners

If you’re a pet owner, dog and cat hairs embed into the carpet over time and each time the vacuum is used, these smells are transferred to the dust bag.

Continuous use of the vacuum without using a fragrance pad results in these stale smells being transferred back onto the carpet and into the home.

    The endless cycle begins.

Nowadays there are many vacuums that don’t require a bag but these can still collect stale smells if they are not emptied and cleaned regularly.

Hoover scents have been around for several years with the first vacuum fresheners being the ‘Shake ‘N’ Vac’, going on sale in 1979.

A carpet freshener powder that was sprinkled onto the carpet, left to fragrance for a few minutes and then vacuumed.

An intent smell of freshness was benefited and if used regularly, helped every room in the home smell fresh in between vacuuming.

Nowadays we see a better and more suitable product being used to give the same benefit in the shape of fragrance pads.

These are placed near the exhaust vent of the hoover and as soon as it’s switched on, there is an instant fragrance that fills the room.

Not only does it give the room a fresh scent but it also keeps your hoover from smelling of stale pet hairs and general smells from every day use of walking over the carpets.

    Vacuum fresheners by FM world

FM World have created several fragrance scents to use in all types of dry-operating vacuum cleaners and they are all great smells depending on what type of fragrance you like in your home.

One of my favourites is Charming Alley.

A scent which is a beautiful fragrance composition for your home and has a subtle duo of rose and musk scents to give the room a romantic aura.

We don’t want a scent that is overpowering and with its delicate hint of musk, a popular scent in its own right, the room is left with a beautifully fresh fragrance and your hoover is kept free of nasty smells.

Each pack comes with two fragrance pads that will last around 3 months in your vacuum.

They are simple to use, just pop one pad by the exhaust air filter and once the vacuum is switched on, there is an instant whiff to enjoy as you vacuum the carpets.

    Cosmic Fantasy

This fragrance pads matches the FM 489 fragrance high is inspired by Alien-Thierry Mugler
