    Best Spring perfumes for 2023

For those who are fortunate enough to live in a hot climate that stays at a reasonable temperature all year around, perhaps you don’t need to worry about the change of seasons as much as we do here in the UK.

That being said, when it comes to perfumes, it’s good to have different scents for different seasons so that we can choose the right one for the weather. Let’s take a look at the best spring perfumes for 2023.

    Best spring perfumes for 2023

If you are a regular visitor to my website, you will already have learned the reason why we have different fragrances for different times of the year.

Imagine your favourite bottle of Alien by Thierry Mugler. A very popular scent that many women around the world wear. If you are familiar with such a fragrance, you will know that it is a heavy scent.

Despite spraying just a small amount onto the skin, it can have a huge impact on those around you because of how strong it is.

It’s a powerhouse in a bottle that won’t be suited to everyone.

Imagine wearing that same perfume during the hottest weather that we are occasionally fortunate to get in the UK.

We may assume that perfumes and cologne that have a very woody and earthy scent are the heaviest. There are many sweet and floral fragrances that can be just as overpowering if too much is sprayed.

For instance, think about La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme. A delightful fragrance that is gorgeous to wear during the spring and summer months but can be a little heavy on the skin.

With its very fruity notes of pear, blackberry and orange, this fragrance can smell very sweet and therefore may be a little overpowering.

There is the option to buy the eau de toilette version of La Vie Est Belle for a lighter, more delicate scent.

Why we should choose our fragrance to match the seasons

You may have your favourite signature perfume that gets spritzed every day but have you thought about whether that scent works well in all weathers?

Designers create perfumes with the seasons in mind and have a balance of suitable aromas to fit the weather, our personalities and the current fashion.

When the weather is exceptionally hot, a heavy fragrance perfume will react with the heat and be far too strong on the skin. By wearing a lighter scent or even a body spray, this allows the scent to sit more delicately and not be overpowered by the heat.

Floral and fruity perfumes are much more suitable for the hot weather as they sit better on the skin and don’t accelerate in strength when the sun is hot.

The same theory works for winter fragrances. When the weather is cold, we need a stronger scent to compensate for our skin having a drop in temperature. Woody, musk and spicy perfumes work best.

Many men and women have signature fragrances that they will wear whatever the season and that’s perfectly okay. For those who like to try different scents, depending on the season, let’s take a look at what scents are popular this Spring.

    Best Spring perfumes for 2023

Marc Jacobs – Daisy Love Paradise

I do love the creativity within Marc Jacob’s bottle designs. Even though we shouldn’t be influenced by the bottle of perfume alone, Jacobs captures the feminine elegance with each bottle that they release.

With its soft-edged pink bottle, twin flowers in tone two colours as its cap and gold-plated centre piece on each ‘Daisy’, this floral and fruity Eau de Toilette is a fairly new perfume to the market and was released in 2022.

The simplicity of fragrance notes within this perfume just shows how ‘less is more’ with a definite feminine scent that has a sweet touch without being too overpowering.

For those who love patchouli, this perfume has a definite linger of the base note and is very noticeable. It’s worth a try to see how it sits on the skin.

    Baccarat Rouge 540

If you’re looking for a touch of sophistication and class in a bottle of perfume then Maison Francis Kurkdijian has mastered this 2015 scent with a gorgeous selection of fragrance notes.

Not the most affordable perfume on our shelves, but this scent is long-lasting and has a strong selection of fragrance notes that will last the whole day.

Baccarat Rouge 540 is a popular scent that is often ‘copied’ by other manufacturers and is a global sensation. Pop superstar Rhianna had this bottle as her go-to scent before she began launching her scents, so it’s of little surprise why this perfume has many women obsessed.

    Mugler Angel Elixir EDP

Keeping in with the classic design of Thierry Mugler’s Angel perfume bottle, shaped like a star, the new fragrance of Angel Elixir, released this year (2023) has an identical design, but with a richer shade of blue tone on its bottle.

Every time I see this perfume, it reminds me of the time my stepfather bought me Angel.

A bottle design that, unlike most other perfumes, doesn’t stand up on its own, so it was not going to sit proudly on the bedside table and was far too sweet for my liking, with heavy base notes of vanilla.

Needless to say, I never wore it.

Mugler Angel Elixir is worth a try to compare it with Muglar’s 1992 perfume Angel.

A previous fragrance that contains very sweet notes which may be a little too much for some to wear. As you can see from Angel Elixir, the base notes are still very sweet so I would recommend trying a sample first.

    Top notes: pink pepper

Middle notes: orange blossom, Jasmine, ylang, ylang, Sandalwood

Base notes: bourbon, vanilla infusion, Amber, Xreme™️

THIERRY MUGLER ANGEL ELIXIR REFILLABLE STAR 50ML EDP SPRAY BRAND NEW & SEALED

    Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey

With its fresh, floral and aquatic fragrance notes, this perfume is the perfect perfume to wear during Spring.

Released in 1992, there is a gorgeous aroma of musk and sandalwood as the perfume settles on the skin.

Top notes: Lotus, melon, rosewater, Rose, Freesia, calone, Cyclamen

Middle notes: lily-of-the-valley, lily, carnation, water peony

Bass notes: tuberose, exotic woods, musk, cedar, sandalwood, amber, osmanthus

There is a wonderful touch of freshness and floral flowers with this scent.

Based on an aquatic and floral theme, it is suitable to wear in the office. It is distinctive and recognizable and a little spritz is enough with this bottle if you’re not overly keen on too many fruit and floral notes.

It has a reasonably moderate sillage and a long-lasting scent for those Spring evenings in the garden or sitting having lunch with friends.

Many have said that the price is good value too and has a clean and fresh vibrancy as the musk note pops through for a very feminine aroma.

For a perfume that is over 30 years old, the late Issey Miyake, who only passed away last year (2022) at the age of 84, has created a timeless classic and the design and shape of the bottle are most certainly one that can be carried in your handbag for a spritz during the day.

    Spring Flower- Creed

Launched this year, Spring Flower by Creed has a delicate fruit and floral fragrance, which is perfect for women.

When we have musk as one of our base notes, we always get a sense of warmer weather on the horizon and the chance to wear lighter clothing, and sandals and feel the sun on our skin.

Grapefruit as the opening note gives a fruit zest and a delightful mixture of peach, white flowers and jasmine.

It has a moderate sillage and a long-lasting fragrance for this re-released bottle of perfume.

A simplistic baby pink bottle design and silver cap make this perfume a classic for women even though the price tag may be a touch too high for some.

    Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle EDP

Perhaps not a very common perfume to many, this scent’s name gives us a sense of holidays and warmer weather.

A bright and fresh perfume that pops fizzy citrus and grapefruit notes and is not only suitable for Spring but also perfect for summer too.

Sitting in the floral and fruit family, Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle gives us the feeling of wanting to escape to a warmer climate and feel the sand between our toes.

    Affordable perfumes that smell expensive

Discover the secret to affordable perfumes that exude luxury! We’ve curated insights into the best fragrances that not only capture opulence but also offer unbeatable value for money. Who doesn’t love a sensational scent without breaking the bank?

    Affordable perfumes that smell expensive

The perfume industry evolves each year with a myriad of fragrances—from celebrity endorsements to designer dupes and in-house brands. At FM World, we offer a vast selection of perfumes and aftershaves catering to every budget. We believe nothing is satisfying about wearing a scent that feels cheap.

Navigating between heavy scents that linger for hours and weak ones that fade too quickly, finding the perfect fragrance is an art. While many are drawn to trusted designer bottles, the allure of a celebrity-endorsed fragrance can make it even more appealing, despite the potential cost. It’s worth noting, however, that the market is flooded with cheap imitations of designer brands. To ensure quality and authenticity, it’s best to steer clear of these counterfeit products.

Read our article on why buying cheap perfume will cost you more.

    Scent matters

We believe in the perfect trifecta: a fragrance that not only boasts a delightful and fitting scent but also stands the test of time—all without putting a strain on your purse strings or wallet. Because who says you can’t have it all?

While some may wait for special occasions or opt for Duty-Free discounts to indulge in designer scents, what if you want your favourite fragrance without the wait?

Explore the world of options beyond traditional choices. At FM World, we’ve crafted unique scents for both men and women. Our extensive range caters to everyone’s budget, ensuring that quality and longevity are never compromised.”

    How can they do this?

While we understand that perfumes and aftershaves consist of perfume oil, alcohol, and fragrance notes, the question remains: what makes a perfume so expensive?

In a previous article, I delved into the reasons behind the hefty price tags of some designer perfumes.

At FM World, we’ve demystified the process, crafting unique scents in a way that keeps them both exceptional and affordable.

It’s a common sight to see celebrities endorsing the latest fragrances, with advertisements often surfacing around Christmas, featuring top actresses, models, or film stars showcasing a particular bottle.

It’s a clever strategy to present a product to a vast audience, and FM World seized this opportunity brilliantly.

Recognizing the desire for beautiful fragrances that everyone could enjoy without breaking the bank, FM World created scents for both men and women that are not just reserved for special occasions. Customers can regularly purchase their favourite scents, ensuring a constant supply when needed.

Moreover, customers have the flexibility to build a collection of their preferred scents, giving them the option to wear a different fragrance every day if they so desire.

By eliminating middlemen, TV advertising, and relying on salespeople, FM World manages to minimize costs while still producing exquisite scents that customers love.

In recent times, names like Tom Ford and Jo Malone have surged in popularity, joining the ranks of iconic perfumes from Chanel, Paco Rabanne, and Lancôme, which continue to dominate the perfume industry.

We might find ourselves shelling out anywhere from £70 to £120 for these high-profile scents. While many are willing to pay such prices for their favourite perfume or aftershave, it’s important to recognize that a significant portion of the cost often goes into the packaging, the celebrity endorser, and the associated TV advertisements.

Nobody appreciates cheap perfume and aftershave. They often carry an unfamiliar scent and lack the longevity we desire, and in instances where products are ‘copied,’ you may find yourself dealing with fake packaging and counterfeit liquids in a fraudulent bottle.

An affordable range at FM World

FM fragrances for both men and women maintain unwavering quality despite their more affordable price tag. As previously mentioned, FM utilizes perfume oil from the reputable company DROM.

DROM is also a supplier of perfume oil for many of the designer perfumes and aftershaves available on our shelves and online today.

When customers inquire about our fragrances, we highlight that FM scents share very similar fragrance notes with designer perfumes. To assist customers in finding their preferred scents, we use a fragrance wheel that helps identify their preference among floral, oriental, woody, citrus, and other fragrance categories.

    Affordable perfumes that smell expensive

After discovering the fragrance notes a customer prefers, we can then curate a selection of perfumes or aftershaves that specifically contain those notes. For instance, if a customer expresses a fondness for fruity scents, we offer a variety of perfume fragrances with prominent fruity notes.

To provide customers with a firsthand experience, we offer samples available for purchase from our online store. This allows them the opportunity to try the scent on their skin and determine if it’s the perfect fit for them.

FM have over 200 perfume and aftershave samples to choose from

We always recommend trying a fragrance on the skin and allowing it a couple of minutes to settle. This method is crucial in determining if a particular fragrance suits an individual.

Fragrances interact uniquely with each person’s skin, and what complements one person may not necessarily work for another. The availability of trying fragrances before purchase is especially beneficial, especially for those inclined towards expensive perfumes.

While many perfume stores and departments offer to spray the fragrance on a test paper strip, this provides only an initial sense of the scent. For a more accurate representation, it’s highly effective to try the fragrance directly on the skin, allowing you to fully experience and assess the new scent before making a purchase.

    Similar fragrance notes

All the fragrances offered by FM share very similar notes with designer counterparts. For instance, if a customer has a favourite perfume like Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, we can consult our perfume list to find a scent that closely resembles that particular designer fragrance.

It’s important to note that we can’t sell a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle since we don’t carry it. Our FM fragrance bottles are uniquely numbered, housed in their packaging, and distinct from designer brands.

FM doesn’t engage in copying designer fragrances. Instead, by incorporating similar fragrance notes, FM perfumes offer a comparable and familiar scent to well-known designer fragrances.

    Our range of quality fragrances

In our fragrance range, we offer the PURE and PURE ROYAL selections, as well as the UTIQUE range. Notably, all our fragrances contain either 20% or 30% perfume oil, with the 30% being our INTENSE range. You can explore and shop our collection here.

It’s worth mentioning that many designer fragrances are Eau De Toilette scents, meaning their perfume oil is diluted down, resulting in a shorter-lasting scent compared to Eau de Parfum. At FM, we can afford to use 20% pure perfume, offering a longer-lasting experience.

This ability to use a higher concentration of pure perfume is due to our unique approach. Unlike brands with celebrity endorsements, TV advertisements, and in-store sales assistance, FM operates without these elements, allowing us to focus on delivering quality at an affordable price.

Giving the customer what they want

By eliminating the middleman in our manufacturing process, we can offer customers high-quality perfumes and aftershaves that last approximately eight hours when opting for the 20% perfume range.

Opting for the 30% pure perfume range ensures an even longer-lasting fragrance—a fantastic choice for those seeking an extended scent experience.

    Celebrity fragrances- Paco Rabanne-1 Million

I mentioned popular celebrity fragrances that are around at the moment. Let’s take a look at Paco Rabanne1 million.

    Affordable perfumes that smell expensive
The Paco Rabanne scent is pure class. Distinguished, unique and popular with both men and women

A popular men’s fragrance, this scent could cost around £70 when purchased from stores such as Superdrugs. At this price point, you’re likely to receive a 100ml bottle. However, it’s worth noting that it is an Eau de Toilette spray, providing a lasting fragrance of approximately 4-6 hours.

The perfume features top notes of fresh grapefruit, mandarin, and peppermint, combined with middle notes of rose absolute, cinnamon bark, and mask. The base notes offer an ultra-masculine leather scent.

FM shares a striking similarity with Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million, both belonging to the oriental notes family. A comparison of notes between FM199 PURE ROYAL (our inspired fragrance) and 1 Million reveals significant similarities, although they are not identical.

    Type: rich, multi-threaded fragrance notes:

    Head: Italian mandarin, peppermint

    Heart: cinnamon, Turkish rose, cardamom

    Base: leather note

Indulge in the opulence of our rich, multi-threaded fragrance. The journey begins with vibrant top notes of Italian mandarin and invigorating peppermint, setting the stage for a sensory experience like no other.

As the scent unfolds, the heart reveals a harmonious blend of warming cinnamon, luxurious Turkish rose, and the exotic allure of cardamom. This intricate composition captivates the senses, creating an aromatic tapestry that lingers throughout the day.

At the foundation lies a bold and enduring base note, characterized by the unmistakable essence of leather. This final touch adds depth and sophistication, ensuring that the fragrance leaves a lasting impression.

Elevate your senses with this meticulously crafted scent, where each note weaves together seamlessly to embody a truly indulgent olfactory experience.

Saving you money on the things you love

For a 50m bottle, you will get 20% pure fragrance oil and an affordable price tag of just £27.50. Another great fact about some of our fragrances is that other products in the same scent can be purchased too.

Alongside FM 199 fragrance, they have a range of products to complement their perfume.

As FM World enters its 14th year, it continues to celebrate mastery in the fragrance world by offering scents with similar notes to designer brands at an affordable price.

    Celebrity skin care products

Similar to celebrity-endorsed perfumes, skincare products endorsed by celebrities are also immensely popular. It’s a well-established fact that celebrities have been endorsing perfumes for several years now.

    Celebrity skin care products

As a nation, we are greatly influenced by products available both online and in shops, especially those with a celebrity endorsement. Knowing that a well-known celebrity supports a product gives us confidence when making a purchase.

    Supporting the influencers

Imagine this scenario: Your friend, who lives down the street from you, begins a soap-making business. Initially, you’re enthusiastic and supportive, and they even share some of their products with you for free.

As their business gains momentum, they expand their product line, and soon enough, they approach you to buy the same items they previously gifted you.

This situation resonates with the online memes depicting someone starting a new business or excelling in an interview, only to be offered the job they were seeking.

Celebrity sun care products They share their soap-making venture with all their Facebook followers and receive 25 likes and 10 comments on their posts. As we scroll through our news feed, a celebrity endorsing the latest fragrance catches our attention, amassing over 3000 likes and over 100 comments.

It’s a clear illustration of how those who have influenced us over an extended period tend to garner the majority of support. Despite not personally knowing these celebrities, we readily back them in their new ventures.

Often, we find ourselves willingly paying a higher price for the latest perfume or cosmetic product endorsed by a celebrity, surpassing what we typically spend on our usual and more affordable Rimmel or L’Oréal brands.

    The power of celebrity status

It may even be a product we don’t particularly want or need, but the endorsement of a celebrity is enough to entice us to part with our money. I highly doubt we will ever see a break in this cycle as long as celebrities are influencing us.

Celebrities are also aware that they influence certain customers.

    Celebrity skin care products
Celebrities have a huge influence over their customers

There is never any question about whether their product will sell enough quantities to keep it on the shelves. In addition to endorsing perfumes and aftershaves, many celebrities also have their own skincare ranges.

We often admire celebrities, especially women, who seem to embody perfection in every way—gorgeous, glowing skin full of radiance. What’s their secret? We are curious about the products they use, hoping to benefit from achieving the same radiant look

    Celebrity skin care products

Many celebrities don’t look their age and perhaps this is not just part of the products they are using but the kind of lifestyle that they live too.

A healthy lifestyle also plays a part in our exterior

Personal trainers, a commitment to healthier and often more expensive food, financial security, and ample water intake—all contribute to how gracefully we age.

Similarly, in the realm of fragrances, celebrities don’t always wear the products they endorse; they may simply appreciate the scent or the way their skin feels when using certain products.

Much like the general public, celebrities are also influenced by the texture of a product, its fragrance, and the overall experience it provides when they use it.

In addition, the majority of celebrities have a makeup artist to assist them when appearing on TV shows, concerts, and advertisements.

Now, let’s delve into some of the skincare products favoured by celebrities.

    Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer, an American actress, producer, and spokesperson for Aveeno, a skincare company focusing on conditions such as eczema, and sensitive, dry, and itchy skin, emphasizes the use of natural ingredients.

In addition to her skincare routine, Jennifer prioritizes hydration by drinking ample water. Furthermore, she attributes her age-defying appearance, free of wrinkles, to good genes passed down from her father and grandmother.

    Selena Gomez

Starting her career at the tender age of just seven, Selena also sings and has her one line of make-up called Rare Beauty which she gives one percent of the profit to mental health awareness to support a charity following her struggles with mental health.

Moisturiser is a top product when it comes to the celebrity’s skincare routine.

Selena uses a rich moisturiser called the Dewy Skin Cream by Tatcha. Due to its thick consistency, you don’t need to use it much.

    Celebrity skincare products

An often overlooked factor in maintaining great skin and an effective skincare routine is the importance of removing all traces of makeup before going to bed.

Selena is one of those women who adhere to this routine diligently because her skin is prone to breakouts. Managing lupus, Selena recognizes the significance of keeping her skin fresh, and as part of her daily routine, she applies sunscreen.

For sun protection, she relies on the Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30.

    Celebrity skincare products

From her Rare Beauty range, she also uses a set mist which is a 4-in-1 Prime & Set Mist, before applying foundation.

    Emma Watson

Another woman who has been in the spotlight since her youth and secured one of the leading roles in the Harry Potter films, Emma also prioritizes skincare.

One of her daily go-to products is the Cheek and Lip Stain by The Body Shop.

Suffering with dry skin, Emma reaches out for a product called Evolue Firming Toner. It has minimal alcohol so it doesn’t make her face sting.

She also exfoliates once a week using an exfoliator by Evolue called Resurfacing Grains.

  • Branding,  Celebrities,  Perfumes

    Celebrity endorsed perfumes

We see celebrity-endorsed perfumes everywhere. Online and on the high street. So when did it all start? Back in 1987, Elizabeth Taylor first started the trend when she launched her perfume called Passion.

The first celebrity to begin the endorsement trend

This wasn’t her first fragrance either. She created her signature fragrance called White Diamonds in 1991 but the success came with the release of Passion 3 years earlier and became one of the best-selling fragrances of all time. Surprisingly, Passion isn’t as expensive to purchase as you may think.

Take a look on eBay for Passion by Elizabeth Taylor

With such an iconic celebrity at the forefront of this trend, it wasn’t long before the likes of Paris Hilton, Jennifer Aniston and Beyoncé became just some celebrities who saw a market and a platform for following in her footsteps. It’s a well-known fact that having a celebrity behind their perfume is going to help massively with perfume sales.

Do men and women simply purchase a designer fragrance because of the name behind it? Perhaps they did a few years ago but these days it’s not just the name behind the brand that matters. After all, there’s little point in purchasing a Beyoncé fragrance just because such a music icon is behind its creation.

We purchase perfumes for their fragrance notes and longevity too. Women and men need to like the scent to wear it. It’s a waste of money if the bottle is going to sit in the wardrobe and never be worn. It’s not just perfume either that celebrities have endorsements on.

Anything from clothing, jewellery and handbags all have a touch of celebrity attached. Items that are endorsed by famous people will sell much quicker too. It’s a very clever marketing strategy and one that has been around for many years.

    Celebrity endorsed products

When a celebrity endorses a product, this gives scope for the product to reach a larger audience and therefore make more sales.

When we see a perfume that has been endorsed by Beyoncé for example, it immediately gives the buyer confidence in their purchase as the person behind the brand is well-known. Having such an iconic celebrity also makes the product more appealing.

Have you noticed how attractive the celebrities are who endorse products? It makes it more enchanting.

    Buying a well-known perfume

Purchasing a perfume from a celebrity has a positive impact on the buyer and when they wear the fragrance created by their favourite singer/celebrity, it instantly gives confidence. The consumer also feels more important because they are wearing such a fragrance. Whenever we see a perfume being advertised on the TV, it will always have a famous face in the commercial.

Would it be the same if some random person off the street posed in an elegant dress whilst holding a bottle of perfume? Of course not.

We are very much influenced by successful people around us and selling a product on the TV with a pop star or film actor is incredibly powerful to the consumer market. As a buyer, we feel an instant connection to the celebrity and almost feel as famous and well-known as the idol we look up to.

A friend commenting on our latest perfume purchase and commenting how gorgeous you smell is an instant hit for the confidence when you tell them which one you have bought.

You will also notice that celebrity fragrances don’t have a huge price tag. Certainly not as high as purchasing designer fragrances from popular creators such as Chanel or Tom Ford.

If you find a bottle of Kylie Minogue’s latest scent (2021),  Darling, it doesn’t have a hefty price tag. It can easily be purchased on eBay.co.uk for an affordable price.

When we see other designer brands such as Lancôme that have Julia Roberts as their endorser and ambassador, that’s a whole new level. She is the face behind the iconic brand and you will see her advertising their fragrance on TV, more often but not limited to, Christmas time.

Unlike the pop stars who have their own ‘named’ fragrance on the shelves, Julia Roberts is simply the one who advertises the brand, not the person who has influenced and created the fragrance notes, bottles and packaging.

    Keeping the money coming in

Another reason why celebrities endorse products is to keep them in the limelight even when they’re not. It’s a way of creating another revenue for the stars without having to hold the responsibility or doing a great deal compared to holding a concert or attending a talk show.

    Celebrity endorsed perfumes
When the concerts are not taking place, celebrities look for other ways of making money

Money earned in the background is appealing to everyone, especially celebrities. If their other income is slow or dried up, with no album sales or films to make, it’s the perfect solution for them. They also know that their celebrity status will help massively with sales as customers buy their perfumes.

How much do celebrities earn from endorsing perfumes?

This will depend on who the star is, to begin with. If it is a celebrity that is well-known, hugely popular and a big influencer, they are likely to earn big money. One of the top endorsers and highest paid is Charlize Theron who has been the face of Dior since 2004 and is one of the most famous perfume ads.

The iconic advert of 2014 sees the actress dressed in gold and climbing a silk scarf up to the skylight of an elegant building, throwing off her gold pearls and stating that the ‘future is gold‘ as she walks across the roof with city buildings surrounding her. It’s no wonder that the advert and celebrity alone will have customers reaching for such a perfume as J’adore.

With fragrance notes of pear, melon, mandarin orange, bergamot, Jasmine, musk, vanilla, blackberry and cedar to name a few, the famous fragrance has an instantly fresh summer vibe within its first spritz. The first sniff of fruit and elegance makes this perfume one of the top sellers.

According to reports, Charlize Theron signed a $3 million deal to be the face behind the Christian Dior J’adore perfume and the ads are still shown on screen today. Since becoming the face of J’adore, she has earned an estimated $55 million over the years. That’s some endorsement profit!

    Holly Willoughby perfume

The latest celebrity to join in with creating her fragrance is Holly Willoughby in February 2022. The popular TV presenter has a new fragrance as part of her Wylde Moon brand, called (borrowed from) The Wild.

With top fragrance notes of Bergamot, Blackcurrant and Geranium, heart notes of Jasmine, Mint and Rose Absolute and base notes of Amberwood and musk, Holly’s perfume is a huge hit.

Fresh, feminine and a little heavier than floral, the bottle is simplistic and elegant with a tassel on its cap. Fans are a little divided when it comes to the price of £42 for a 50ml EDP bottle. Some will purchase not just because of the beautiful fragrance but also because of the well-loved and admired celebrity behind its creation.

We are all influenced by beauty, success and down-to-earth celebrities.

Buying cheap perfume will cost more

Buying cheap perfume will cost more in the long run so why do people opt for this as an alternative? Whenever we hear the word designer, we instantly think of expensive brands, celebrities and quality products. Whether it’s a clothing range, cosmetics, shoes or perfume.

We do get what we pay for although many would agree that some designer brands are overpriced. Customers can be left feeling ripped off when they see a huge price tag that perhaps doesn’t justify the item being purchased.

We’ve all been there. A spot of retail therapy works wonders to lift the mood but at what cost?

Men and women love to shop, especially if they know what they are intending to buy. Whilst women are more prone to window-shopping than men, buying something new really can lift the mood.

Some may say buying impulsively can have the opposite effect and leave you with the panic of overspending and falling into the debt hole. Especially if one’s purchase is on the more expensive side. It’s important to balance the two.

I’m not a big lover of shopping, aimlessly walking around the shops in the hope that something will catch my eye. I prefer a more purposeful visit, to know exactly what I am shopping for.

My sister and late mother on the other hand would shop till they dropped! We all have the idea of shopping and saving at the same time, so it’s very much done to buy more for our money. That makes sense.

    Looking for cheaper options

There will be certain products on the market that will work in our favour.

Clothes, for instance, can be bought much cheaper and some will still last just as long and come out of the wash the same size as they went in!

What about products such as cosmetics? These too can be bought cheaper but if you are prone to sensitive skin, purchasing a more expensive brand will always be the better option to avoid skin allergies.

When it comes to perfumes, we all know the price we pay to have a designer bottle of Chanel in our possession.

    An iconic perfume

Chanel perfume was also the most popular and highest-ranked brand for women in the UK in 2020, with an estimated 4.9million women enjoying its unique fragrance. That’s a huge amount of sales for just one designer bottle.

The iconic bottle and fragrance of Chanel. A fragrance owned by many women around the world

So what about when shops sell copies of designer perfumes at a fraction of the price?

We already know that we can buy the real thing at the Duty Free and they will often be a little cheaper.

A cheeky purchase for the upcoming holiday that we all look forward to having. Almost obligatory to visit one too, before boarding the plane.

Some wait until this time to purchase their favourite or ask their family member/friend to pick one up on their way through or on the plane because the price is a little lower.

    Copies of our favourite perfumes

Recently, Poundland has released a selection of fragrances, all in the same packaging and bottles as the designer brands, but with a huge difference.

    The price tag.

Buying cheap perfume will cost more
Savings on perfume isn’t always the best option

For as little as £1, customers can purchase a copy of their favourite bottle but at what cost? We’re all bargain hunters inside. Even those who can afford the real thing more than some. Everyone loves a saving. It leaves more money and opportunity to spend the rest on something else.

A walk into Poundland is everyone’s idea of the perfect shop. A shop that everyone loves for the fact that they can purchase household products, cosmetics, birthday cards and food for a bargain price.

Carry on walking through and we now see a display of designer fragrances from such names as Chanel, Creed, Carolina Herrera and Paco Rabanne. Or are they?

We all know that Poundland is just that, a pound shop. A place that almost seems too good to be true when we can purchase hand wash or toothpaste for just £1. Some would argue that such items can be bought cheaper from the big stores such as Asda and Sainsbury’s. Indeed, they can so it’s important to be savvy when we shop.

So what about buying your favourite perfume for £1? A fragrance such as Paco Rabanne’s Lady Million would leave your purse short of around £83 for the real thing. Can it be bought for £1 instead?

Of course, we all love to save money but at what cost?

    Perfume and beauty resources

Buying cheap perfume will cost more

On the first initial spray, we are surprised by the similarity in fragrance notes but the real key is how long will the scent last.

Lady Million is a very popular fragrance and the third most favourite scent for women.

Containing notes of Raspberry, Jasmine, Patchouli and Amber to name a few, this perfume scent is instantly noticed with its first spray.

The packaging alone suggests that this isn’t the real deal. Poundland cleverly uses slightly different names for their duped fragrances. This allows them to sell a product that has similar scents to the real perfumes. Trying to sell a fake product off as the real thing is counterfeit.

So Lady Million is labelled as Queen in Million and although the design of bottles may be similar, companies do change their bottles so they are not identical to the real item.

    A clever marketing strategy

We already know that purchasing a bottle for £1 won’t give us a designer brand in our shopping basket.

Buying cheap perfume will cost more

Many will be on a shopping budget so buying such an affordable fragrance will seem very appealing. What about the longevity though?

Whilst it’s a great purchase to buy a similar bottle to one of our favourites at a fraction of the cost, is it worth it?

    Cheaper alternatives

A spray of a cheaper alternative will save money for other things for sure but at what cost? Imagine you have picked up a dupe bottle of Black Opium by Yves St Laurent which is named Black Dust in Poundland.

A great bottle and packaging inspired by real designer perfume, it doesn’t look out of place on the shelf.

A pleasant smell, just like Black Opium, with a sweet scent but instantly too overpowering with sweetness. The depth that Black Opium carries wasn’t a match though for this alternative.

When we use perfume, we apply it in the morning, preferably on clean, moisturized skin so that we get the most out of the fragrance.

Purchasing a Poundland alternative will leave you using it as more of a body spray as the initial spray was gone within minutes. No one wants to keep reapplying their scent throughout the day just to make it last.

Speaking of making perfume last, this bottle really won’t last very long if it constantly needs reapplying throughout the day.

The chances of anyone around you noticing the whiff of scent will be very slim too unless they are standing right beside you when you spray.

So the £1 bottle of fragrance that initially saved you a fair amount of money, will eventually cost you more. You will constantly be spending money on replacing the bottle that’s only lasted a week!

Purchasing for the younger generation would be the only reason to buy a £1 fragrance. They don’t need overpowering scents to make an impression and will still feel like they are a part of the grown-up world with a bottle of designer spritz.

If buying a dupe bottle seems to be the only option for owning a scent that’s similar to your favourite designer perfume, there is another option.

At FM World, we sell designer-inspired fragrances.

    Top ten perfumes

When it comes to the top ten perfumes for women, without a doubt, one of Chanel’s creations claims the number one spot. Chanel No. 5, dating back to the 1920s, remains an iconic fragrance. While Coco Chanel has introduced other scents over the years, Coco Mademoiselle has garnered a special place in the hearts of many. This unique fragrance combines fruity, oriental, and woody notes, creating a captivating and timeless aroma.

    Top ten perfumes
One of the most popular perfumes of today is Coco Mademoiselle

What exactly places a perfume among the top ten in popularity?

Is it the allure of a fancy designer bottle? In today’s market, there’s no shortage of perfume bottles with unique and often extravagant designs. Some are exquisite and look stunning on your bedside table, adding a touch of elegance to your space. However, practicality can be a concern when you want to carry them in your handbag for a night out.

Interestingly, men’s designer perfume bottles tend to be less ornate than those designed for women, often featuring a more straightforward and masculine aesthetic. It’s worth considering that elaborate bottle designs can add weight, which may not be ideal for women already carrying a plethora of items in their handbags, from cosmetics to keys and phones.

When considering what places a perfume in the top 10, sales statistics undoubtedly play a significant role. The number of bottles sold compared to other brands over the years is a telling metric of its popularity. Advertising also has a substantial impact. Products that receive more extensive marketing campaigns tend to enjoy increased visibility and popularity, which in turn boosts sales.

This effect is particularly pronounced during the holiday season, especially around Christmas. Celebrities endorsing the latest fragrances on our TV screens can create a substantial buzz, driving interest and sales in these perfumes. With a vast array of designer fragrances available in the market, it becomes challenging to advertise every single one of them. So, how do they decide which ones to promote?

    Popularity

It’s no secret that having a well-known celebrity endorse and advertise a fragrance can significantly boost its sales, often regardless of its scent. I recall a time when fragrances became a popular venture within the pop industry. Every prominent pop artist seemed to have their fragrance, and these endorsements led to soaring sales, particularly around the Christmas season.

Celebrities like Kylie Minogue and Christina Aguilera had fragrances in the market around 2006/2008, and their endorsements played a significant role in driving interest and sales for their respective scents.

    Pop star perfumes

Many young girls who were super fans of these pop idols eagerly added their favourite celebrity’s fragrance to their Christmas or birthday wishlists. The affordability of these perfumes played a key role in their popularity among the younger demographic. Perfume companies often kept the prices reasonable, making them accessible to a broader audience and, in many cases, the parents were the ones purchasing these fragrances for their enthusiastic youngsters.

    Perfume scent

I believe that the top fragrances are those that sell the most due to their unique and captivating scent. While celebrity endorsements may initially drive sales, if the perfumes aren’t used and loved for their fragrance, sales would eventually decline.

Customers tend to be loyal to fragrances they genuinely enjoy, and they may explore other scents if they find something better suited to their unique preferences. Fortunately, our scents and tastes vary, allowing for a diverse range of fragrances to thrive. Interestingly, even in October, we begin to see the occasional perfume advertisement on TV, hinting at the early start of the holiday season.

Julia Roberts has maintained her role as the face of Lancôme fragrances during the Christmas season. Since signing with Lancôme in 2010, she has been a prominent figure in advertising one of today’s most popular fragrances, La Vie Est Belle.

    Top ten perfumes

La Vie Est Belle, a perfume featuring floral, fruity, woody, and spicy notes, remains a perennial favourite among women. It’s a fragrance that can range in price from £30 to £80, with variations depending on where you shop.

With numerous stores and online retailers selling designer fragrances, price disparities are common, so being a savvy shopper is crucial in today’s market.

When it comes to buying a new fragrance, there’s always an element of uncertainty. Will we like it? That’s where samples come into play. They offer a chance to experience and evaluate a fragrance before committing to a purchase, allowing us to determine if it’s the right fit for us.

    Longevity in perfumes

Another crucial factor to consider when determining the top 10 fragrances is longevity. Perfume companies conduct tests to assess how long a fragrance will last when applied as intended. There are various aspects to evaluate, including how quickly the top fragrance notes evaporate, the duration of the scent, and the residual fragrance left at the end of the day.

Additionally, we need to understand how others perceive our fragrance compared to how we perceive it ourselves. When we first apply perfume, there’s an instant burst of scent. However, as the day progresses, the top notes start to fade, and we may not notice the scent as strongly.

Others around us, on the other hand, may still detect and comment on the perfume we’re wearing by the end of the day. A good and long-lasting fragrance will remain detectable if one were to sniff their wrist or catch it under the noses of those nearby, depending on its initial strength.

So, what are the top 10 fragrances for women? While there may not be an official list, here are the top 10 perfumes that frequently appear online.

When it comes to name-brand perfumes, why are they so expensive, and why do we spend so much money on them? I remember peeking into my mum’s wardrobe when I was younger, and there would often be a Chanel or YSL perfume sitting on the shelf, or an Elizabeth Arden lipstick. My mom had expensive taste, so many of her cosmetic and perfume items bore well-known names in the beauty industry.

When I was young, I knew no different when it came to expensive brands. To me, it was just a bottle of perfume or a lipstick. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized just how expensive some of her items were. As a youngster, I was completely unaware of how pricing worked. As we delve deeper into the topic, we begin to understand how prices can vary significantly depending on where you purchase from and who is behind the named brands.

Name-brand perfumes refer to fragrances produced by well-known and established perfume houses or luxury brands. These brands have earned their reputation over the years by creating high-quality and unique fragrances that cater to a diverse range of tastes and preferences.

Some of the most famous and respected name-brand perfume houses include Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Versace, Tom Ford, and many more. Lots of names that many of us are familiar with and possibly already own.

Quality and Ingredients: Name-brand perfumes often use premium quality ingredients and are crafted by skilled perfumers. They invest in research and development to create distinctive and long-lasting scents that set them apart from generic fragrances.

Variety of Scents: They offer a wide variety of fragrances, ranging from floral and fruity to woody, oriental, and spicy. They have perfumes for both men and women, as well as unisex fragrances.

Packaging and Presentation: These brands pay attention to the overall experience of using their perfumes. Their packaging is often luxurious and visually appealing, making the perfumes not just a scent but also an aesthetic experience.

Longevity and Sillage: Name-brand perfumes are known for their longevity, meaning the fragrance lasts for an extended period on the skin. Additionally, they often have a strong sillage, which is the trail of scent that lingers in the air as you move.

Status and Prestige: Wearing a name-brand perfume can be a symbol of luxury, elegance, and prestige. People often associate these fragrances with high social status and exclusivity.

Safety and Regulations: Established perfume brands adhere to strict safety standards and regulations. This ensures that their products are safe for use and comply with industry guidelines and legal requirements.

When choosing a name-brand perfume, it’s essential to consider your personal preferences and how the scent complements your body chemistry. Perfume reacts differently to each individual, so what smells great on one person may not have the same effect on another.

It’s also worth exploring the fragrance notes, as perfumes often have top, middle, and base notes that evolve. Test the perfume on your skin before making a purchase, as the scent may change slightly after interacting with your body’s natural oils.

Finally, while name-brand perfumes can be more expensive than generic options, they often justify their higher price with superior quality, exclusivity, and a unique olfactory experience.

    The price of name-brand perfume

We all perceive ‘expensive’ differently. Some might say a product is expensive because they can’t afford it, while others view it as ‘not worth the price tag.’ Nowadays, not all perfumes come with a high price.

    So what makes brands expensive?

While one product alone may not break the bank, having several high-end items in your perfume collection can quickly add up. Women, in particular, can spend a significant amount of money on these items, as well as skincare and cosmetics.

Luxury perfume and cosmetics are among the top products that women purchase. When it comes to perfume, only a small percentage of the cost is attributed to the scent itself. The majority of what we pay for covers the packaging, marketing, and advertising of the product, often accompanied by celebrity endorsements.

Without advertising, few would know about the perfume to purchase it in the first place, so a substantial portion of our spending as consumers goes towards promoting these brands.

Men and women frequently opt for well-known brands, which means they are not only paying for the product but also the marketing, the brand name, and the prestige associated with these renowned names.
