    Different Types Of Soap Bars

There are many different types of soap bars on the market, and with so many to choose from, it can be a challenge to find the one that’s most suitable for our skin.

We take for granted that there are so many types these days, and they all seem to serve different purposes, not just for essential cleanliness. Where did it all begin, and why was soap created?

    A brief history of soap

Soap-making dates back to 2800 B. C with Mesopotamians, Babylonians, Egyptians, the Romans and Ancient Greeks.

    Different types of soap bars

Soap was made by mixing oil, fat, and alkaline salts to form a soap-like substance. It was used to clean cooking utensils or for medicinal purposes to treat skin diseases and sores.

It wasn’t until the 19th century that soap bars were created and used to wash wool in the textile industry. Years ago, the most basic soap was created by taking animal fats and mixing them with lye ( a metal hydroxide obtained by leaching wood ashes).

Over the years, soap recipes became more widely known, but soap was expensive, and demand was high until 1791. A Frenchman named LeBlanc discovered a chemical process that allowed soap to be made and sold much cheaper.

Over 200 years later, there was another Frenchman who learned of the ingredients glycerin, acid and fats and how well they worked together. This led to the beginning of modern soap being made.

    Different types of soap bars

This new method of soap making is still used today to create soap that we see and purchase.

Science moved on and creations developed when more was learned about the ingredients. Bathing soaps became a separate product from laundry soap and were therefore made as milder soaps to be sold for personal use. In the 1970s liquid hand soap was invented and available to purchase and these days soap is also an ingredient in many beauty products.

    Different types of soap bars
Over the past 50 years, liquid soap has become more popular

Today we see more modern and appealing ingredients in soap products such as palm oil, olive oil and coconut oil. Some brands also add fragrances, colours, and a touch of decor to make their products more appealing to buyers’ eyes.

    Different types of soap bars

    Gentle soaps

Many of us will have heard of Dove soap, a bar made with synthetic ingredients. While using artificial ingredients, we may be led to believe that they would produce harsh products.

    Different types of soap bars

Dove soap is a trendy choice for its gentle ingredients on the skin.

They produce gentle soaps, such as Dove, which can be used on all skin types.

    Different skin types

    Different types of soap bars

Everyone’s skin is different, so we can’t all use the same products when cleansing the skin. Choosing the right one can be as tricky as choosing the right perfume.

Some people may use different soaps for the body and the face. The skin on the face is much more delicate due to constant exposure to heat, cold weather and outside elements. Using the same bar may be too harsh for the body and the skin, especially for those with sensitive skin. It’s more beneficial to know your skin type before you purchase a soap.

    Dry skin

If your skin feels dry, tight, or itchy after washing with a certain soap, this is an indicator that the product isn’t suitable for your skin type.

    Sensitive skin

    Different types of soap bars
The Aloe Vera plant is well known for its healing properties in skincare.

Try using a product such as Simple Purifying Gel Wash for sensitive skin. A delicate product that doesn’t zap the moisture out of your skin and is the daily detox that is 100% soap-free, with no colour, perfume or harsh chemicals. Look for organic ingredients that keep your PH balance correct.

    Different types of soap bars

Transparent soaps are also good for sensitive skin as they are made with additional glycerin, which helps to increase their moisturising properties.

    Save on Avon cosmetics.

    Medically diagnosed skin conditions

For those prone to dry skin, such as eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis, it is best to choose a glycerin-based soap, as recommended for sensitive skin. Fragrance-free products are more suitable. These will be gentler on the skin.

Try those with added ingredients such as vitamin E, Shea butter, aloe vera, and coconut oil. These will add moisture and keep your skin from drying out.

    Oily skin

Oily skin can be challenging to maintain. It occurs when our body produces too much additional oil. Using a product that already has added moisture can often make matters worse. Try using a similar product that’s recommended for dry skin. Mild ingredients such as sea salt, brown sugar, oatmeal, and peach pits will help. Use non-comedogenic products ( a skincare product or cosmetic that is formulated so as not to cause blocked pores).

    Combination skin

Those with combination skin can use a bar made with synthetic surfactants ( Syndets) or superfatted soaps ( soaps that contain excess fat compared with their alkali content).

Suppose you have skin that has been medically diagnosed with eczema, allergies or psoriasis. In that case, finding a suitable soap for this skin type is essential so it doesn’t become inflamed and aggravate the delicate layers. Some gentle exfoliating soaps are ideal for this skin type as long as they are not overused.

Some products on the market help with blackheads, uneven skin texture and breakouts. Avoid the scented and fragrance soaps that can alter your natural PH levels.

    Home Perfume Spray Review

Working with a fragrance company has its benefits. One perk is the opportunity to try new products, and the latest addition to FM World’s lineup is their home perfume spray. We all appreciate our homes smelling fresh and clean without the need to bleach every hard surface or open all the windows to circulate fresh air.

This is great during warmer weather, but it’s not as practical for the winter months. Maintaining a clean home gives us a calm and relaxed state of mind.

    The smell of freshness

The added benefit of each room smelling like our favourite perfume, without actually using up a whole bottle, is that it provides comfort. We’ve previously discussed vacuum fresheners to enhance the home’s scent, but what do we use when the vacuum isn’t running?

Many products, such as incense sticks, scented candles, and reed diffusers, offer a subtle hint of fragrance over a few months or when lit. However, these don’t always provide an instant whiff of scent when needed.

While scented candles work well if you plan to stay home while they burn, we also need an immediate scent option, perhaps something we can spray in the room before heading off to work.

Subscribers can opt for a surprise candle in either a medium or large size each month. They fill out a scent profile, allowing us to handpick a candle tailored to their preferences.

Our partnered brands prioritize quality, featuring lead-free wicks, premium wax, and exquisitely designed containers that complement the season. These containers can be repurposed after you finish burning your candle.

It’s the perfect way to treat yourself or a loved one to the gift of me-time. Gift subscriptions are also available! We love that our home can smell gorgeous when we enter the front door.

Pet owners who deal with the distinctive smell of wet fur or embedded stale odours in the carpet cannot be very comfortable if a friend follows them straight into their home.

There’s no opportunity to quickly light a candle or waft a reed diffuser in the air, hoping any slight scent will reach your guest’s nose. With many room sprays on the market, finding one to suit the individual can be challenging. Some people don’t enjoy the typical canned air fresheners, which can be overpowering when sprayed too much.

Products like Febreze have maintained popularity over the years and are versatile enough for use on furniture. Additionally, there are plug-in types that work effectively, though some require continuous power to trigger frequent sprays.

These plug-ins come with refill options, which can be more cost-effective, but the scent may still be overpowering for some individuals.

What makes this product remarkable is its fantastic, delicate mist. Coupled with its elegant bottle design, it seamlessly blends in if left on the unit for easy reach.

Unlike some other brands, the scent remains very subtle and not overpowering even if you take a whiff of it immediately after spraying.

Their unique formula ensures that the fragrance lingers in the air for an extended period after spraying. The exquisite PURE ROYAL fragrances are soothing and intriguing to the senses. Depending on the size of the room, feel free to spray as much as needed.

    PURE ROYAL HOME PERFUME

    Bottle size– 250ml

    Price £28

    Rating out of 10– 9/10

While each bottle may not be the most economical purchase, it provides numerous sprays, often lasting several weeks. The longevity depends on usage frequency and the number of rooms sprayed.

I limit spraying to my dining room and lounge downstairs just as I leave home. The kitchen, a space for cooking and eating, doesn’t require a perfume scent, nor do the bedrooms. For those areas, scented candles or fragrance sticks are more suitable.

The spray is used in my home, sometimes multiple times a day. Spraying it into the air just before leaving ensures the scent lingers in the room upon return.

Given the many product sprays available, choosing the best one for your home can be challenging. For pet owners, it’s essential to consider scents that aren’t too strong and won’t affect your pet’s well-being. Some sprays may linger on furniture if sprayed directly, so spraying into the air is advisable to prevent any residue on your furnishings.

To avoid any residue on your furnishings, it’s recommended to spray into the air rather than directly onto furniture.

    Gender-Neutral Fragrances

For years, the tradition has been purchasing perfumes tailored to our gender. However, a new trend has emerged, highlighting the popularity of gender-neutral fragrances.

Whether strolling through a department store, exploring the internet, or perusing the Duty-Free section at the airport before embarking on a holiday, individuals have typically gravitated toward fragrances associated with their gender.

Traditionally, fragrances have been segregated by gender in displays, making it convenient for shoppers to locate female and male options. This separation has mirrored the conventional approach to perfume selection.

    Gender-neutral fragrances

Gender-neutral fragrances gained popularity in the 1990s, though it may not seem that long ago to some.

Over the years, we’ve observed a shift where men increasingly take better care of their appearance, indulging in face creams and self-care routines more than ever before. Traditionally associated with women, TV commercials often portrayed women tending to their skin and spritzing their favourite perfumes, exuding a distinctly feminine aura.

Today, the landscape has changed; more men are incorporating skincare products into their routines and tending to their hair. It’s now commonplace to see a man confidently strolling along the high street, impeccably dressed and even sporting a pink shirt under his suit jacket—a colour less accepted for males in years past.

These shifts reflect changing societal norms, and the perfume industry has wholeheartedly embraced them. Gender-neutral and unisex fragrances are now prominently featured on shelves, online, and within perfume companies, including FM World.

    Gender neutral fragrances
A new line of unisex fragrances

Numerous women have been wearing ‘male’ fragrances for years, selecting them based on personal preference rather than conforming to traditional norms. Not much is said about why they choose a particular scent.

On the contrary, if a man opts for a floral fragrance, it will likely draw attention and turn heads, as the lingering ‘feminine’ scent breaks traditional expectations.

Introducing unisex fragrances opens up a new world, providing scents for both men and women. As we grow up, most things around us are often categorized as either male—or female-oriented, so it is refreshing to have products and perfumes that cater to both genders.

Comments like “That’s a bit feminine for you” are becoming less common as society acknowledges and embraces the evolution of times. In our contemporary world, same-sex couples are an integral part of our society, and the rigid distinctions between ‘male’ and ‘female’ are gradually fading away—reflecting a more inclusive and accepting reality.

The Growing Appeal of Gender-Neutral Fragrances

The days of rigidly associating fragrance scents like musk, fruit, floral, and vanilla exclusively with femininity and reserving woody, chypre, oriental, and water notes for males are long gone. These traditional gender stereotypes in fragrance gradually give way to a more inclusive and diverse understanding of scents that transcend gender boundaries.

    Why does Gender Categorize Fragrances?

The power of marketing significantly influences the beauty industry’s segregation into male and female categories. Men’s fragrance bottles often reflect stereotypical notions of masculinity, with popular designs featuring the shape of a man’s torso, a substantial hand, or the simplistic use of very square, clean-shaped bottles. These design choices contribute to reinforcing traditional gender norms within the fragrance industry.

In contrast, women’s packaging tends to embrace a more feminine aesthetic. This includes floral designs, elegant lids, and an extension of ‘girly’ colours, all encapsulated in classy and sophisticated bottle shapes. These design elements contribute to a distinct and traditionally feminine presentation in women’s fragrances.

Perfumes, makeup, nail polish, and hair products are typically marketed toward women, while men have a dedicated section with aftershaves, deodorants, shavers, and shaving products.

We all have different preferences when it comes to scents, and we tend to be attracted to fragrance notes that resonate with us the most.

Perfumes and aftershaves can evoke joyfulness, fun, and happiness, mainly when we receive compliments on our chosen scent of the day.

The beauty of having a wide variety of fragrances for both genders is that we can switch it up every day unless we have a signature scent that we prefer most of the time. Experimenting with different scents allows us to choose fragrances that complement the seasons.

For those who pay attention to fragrance notes, it’s worth noting that both male and female perfumes and aftershaves contain a mix of what we traditionally classify as male and female scents. The balance of these notes determines whether the scent leans more masculine or feminine.

Additionally, specific fragrance notes, such as citrus, oriental, and wood, are suitable for both genders. Men and women can carry off these scents with finesse when appropriately balanced with other notes.

In the early ’90s, a popular trend emerged where men and women embraced the same scents, exemplified by fragrances like CK1, a prevalent choice.

Women, in particular, started gravitating towards more masculine scents, as some female fragrances tended to be overly sweet and occasionally too overpowering. The wrong type or a powerful fragrance can give the wearer a headache and impact those around them. Interestingly, women often find it easier to carry off a more masculine scent than men can with a feminine fragrance.

This flexibility in scent choices mirrors the broader trend of women being able to wear trousers and dresses or skirts. At the same time, societal norms often limit men from wearing traditionally ‘female’ items of clothing—unless they’re donning a kilt, portraying a drag queen, or walking the avant-garde fashion line. The evolving acceptance of diverse scent preferences and fashion choices reflects changing societal norms and attitudes.

    Is It About Power?

Men often choose clothing and scents that help them project a masculine and robust image. Meanwhile, certain female-oriented scents are designed to evoke feelings of prettiness, girlishness, innocence, seduction, and emotion.

I sincerely appreciate both men’s and women’s fragrances, but I tend to gravitate more towards scents with feminine notes. These fragrances complement my slight build, long hair, and painted nails.

    Our Influencers

To a certain extent, the media still greatly influences our perfume choices. Celebrity endorsements and the allure of fancy bottles play a significant role in shaping our purchasing decisions.

Nevertheless, contemporary consumers are increasingly inclined to make choices based on fragrance suitability and cost. The market now offers more affordable options. FM World, for instance, boasts a collection of gender-neutral fragrances, with many scents inspired by the renowned names we encounter in today’s media.

For those interested in exploring our fragrances, we offer the opportunity to try available samples here.

    Body Balm Lotions

Body balm lotions are a great alternative to perfume and are suitable for those who wish to have a subtle scent without the need to spray a bottle of fragrance.

    Body balm lotions

Some men and women are unable to wear day-to-day perfumes and aftershaves. So, using a body balm lotion allows the wearer to enjoy a subtle fragrance on their skin without spraying a fragrance bottle.

The skin is left soft and moisturised, and the light fragrance is not overpowering, as some perfumes can be. It is the perfect solution for day-to-day use.

Your skin will benefit significantly if you use a body balm lotion just before bed. It provides nutrients and moisturises throughout the night, regenerating and softening your skin. Body balm lotion products are not just created for women either. Men also benefit from using them.

Beauty experts recommend using body balm lotion as part of your daily routine to benefit from it and see the difference it can make in moisturising your skin.

Whilst it’s best to start such routines when we are younger for the maximum benefits, it’s never too late to get into the habit of using a bottle of your favourite to look after your skin.

    Body balm lotions

What does a body balm lotion do?

A body balm helps protect the skin from the outside elements that cause dryness, itchiness, and rough, cracked skin. Our hands are exposed daily, and our feet are prone to cracked heels when we wear sandals or flip-flops in the summer. Our feet don’t have as much air to them during winter.

An excellent tip for moisturising your feet

If prone to cracked heels, one of the best solutions is to apply moisturiser all over your feet and put on a pair of cotton socks to sleep through the night. The socks will help keep the moisturiser on your feet without it coming off and onto the bed sheets. Cotton is a breathable material that retains heat, which will help penetrate the product and assist in the healing process when used regularly.

    Body balm lotions
Apply a moisturising lotion all over your feet to replenish the moisture.

The benefits of using body balm

    • Over time, during cold and hot weather and as we age, we lose the elasticity naturally in our skin when we are young. Certain products, such as soaps, bath foams, and lotions, can dry the skin over time if we don’t choose suitable ones.
    • Most body balm lotions contain moisturiser, which improves skin elasticity. However, exposure to direct sunlight can reduce elasticity over time, and moisture is needed to regain a better appearance.
    • Our skin repairs extensively while we sleep, so using a body balm lotion before bed will help repair any damage and restore the skin’s elasticity.
    • A body balm lotion will remove dead skin cells, nourish the skin, and allow the blood supply to regenerate new cells if used regularly.
    • The skin also loses water through the night, so we must replace and improve this using a body balm lotion.

Areas of the body that need TLC

Dry hands, cracked heels, dry elbows, and knees are prevalent issues, so applying a body balm lotion before bed gives the product a chance to soak into the skin as we rest.

Applying after a shower or bath is even more beneficial, as this will help the pores open, giving the lotion a chance to soak into the skin and repair the damaged areas.

We all crave a good night’s sleep, and what better way to achieve this than by applying body balm lotion just before going to bed?

Another benefit of wearing lotion at night is that it repels mosquitoes. So, if you are on holiday and are prone to getting bitten, applying your favourite lotion will deter the critters from attacking you.

The delicate scent applied to your skin can provide comfort and calmness, aiding a restful night’s sleep. For a better night’s sleep, you may also like our pillow mist spray review.

What is even more beneficial is choosing a body lotion with ingredients such as lavender and chamomile, which are naturally relaxing and therapeutic scents.

    Body balm lotions

Alongside a good night’s sleep, we all crave our skin to glow, especially as we get older. We aim for a smooth and moisturised glow. Regular moisturisation also allows for a much better makeup base. It’s essential to choose the suitable body lotion for your skin type and to benefit from its functioning properties.

The skin constantly needs hydration, and even though drinking water helps, using a body balm lotion will also help revitalise and rejuvenate for a fresher look.

    Everyone’s skin is different.

Some people have dry areas, and some have oily areas, so it’s important to moisturise the dry skin and avoid over-moisturising the oily areas.

The benefit of body lotions nowadays is that there are lots on the market, and they all have different scents to suit individual needs.

For those who are not keen on or unable to wear scented products, there are also non-fragranced body lotions that do the same job without leaving a fragrance on the skin.

FM World has a selection of body balm lotions.

Vacuum Fresheners By FM World- A Review

Vacuum fresheners by FM World have been hugely popular over the past few years, so let’s look at why they are selling fast. We spend vast amounts of money annually on fragrances and incense sticks for the home to make ourselves and our surroundings smell fresh and clean, but many will neglect their vacuum cleaners. It’s not usually something that we think of when it comes to scents, but it has become very popular recently.

Henry vacuum cleaners love the FM fragrances.
Vacuum fresheners by FM World- a review
Smells from your vacuum can cause problems in the home, so using a scent will keep your vacuum and home smelling fresh.

Every time the vacuum cleaner is switched on, a build-up of smells from the carpet is instantly brought to the surface when we clean the floors. Daily dust, spills, pet fur, and food impact our carpets, but we don’t see what’s lurking underneath the layers.

    Pet owners

If you’re a pet owner, dog and cat hairs embed into the carpet over time, and each time the vacuum is used, these smells are transferred to the dust bag. Continuous vacuum use without using a fragrance pad transfers stale smells back onto the carpet and into the home. The endless cycle begins.

Nowadays, many vacuums don’t require a bag, but they can still collect stale smells if they are not emptied and cleaned regularly.

Hoover scents have been around for several years. The first vacuum fresheners, the ‘Shake ‘N’ Vac,’ went on sale in 1979. A carpet freshener powder was sprinkled onto the carpet, left to fragrance for a few minutes and then vacuumed. An intent smell of freshness was beneficial, and if used regularly, it helped every room in the home smell fresh between vacuuming.

Nowadays, a more suitable product is being used to provide the same benefit: fragrance pads. These are placed near the vacuum exhaust vent, and as soon as the Hoover is switched on, an instant fragrance fills the room.

Not only does it give the room a fresh scent, but it also keeps your hoover from smelling of stale pet hairs and general smells from everyday use, such as walking over the carpets.

    Vacuum fresheners by FM World

FM World has created several fragrance scents for use in all types of dry-operating vacuum cleaners, and they all smell great, depending on what type of fragrance you like in your home.

One of my favourites is Charming Alley.

A beautiful fragrance composition for your home, this scent has a subtle duo of rose and musk scents, giving the room a romantic aura. We don’t want an overpowering scent, and with its delicate hint of musk, a popular scent in its own right, the room is left with a beautifully fresh fragrance, and your hoover is kept free of nasty smells.

Each pack comes with two fragrance pads lasting around three months in your vacuum. They are simple to use. Just pop one pad by the exhaust air filter, and once the vacuum is switched on, you will enjoy an instant whiff as you vacuum the carpets.

    Choose from 9 different fragrances.

    Cosmic Fantasy

This fragrance pad matches the FM 489 fragrance high and is inspired by Alien-Thierry Mugler. If you wear such a fragrance, your home can smell the same with Cosmic Fantasy.

Matching FM 20 fragrance, inspired by Flowerbomb—Victor & Rolf, this scent will fill the home and your hoover with fragrances from the flower family. Hints of fruit and woody notes will keep your home and carpets smelling as fresh as its scent.

    Shimmering body oil review

As we enjoy the warmer weather, one of my top summer products is the Shimmering Body Oil Gold Regenesis by FM World.

    Shimmering body oil
It is a beautiful spray to add an extra glow to the skin.

The weather starts to improve as we head out of the Spring months and Easter approaches. We can begin to get out into the garden to enjoy the long Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK for Easter. There’s nothing quite like sitting in the sun’s warmth, feeling the heat on our skin after the winter months have passed, and feeling our skin glow as the sun beats down.

    Shimmering body oil
Summer vibes bring out the natural glow in us.

We saw a new product by FM World last year (2021), and what an excellent product to launch.

    shimmering body oil
Moisturise, shimmer, and drench your skin in anti-ageing grape seed oil, almond oil and vitamin E

We all long for the summer glow, and some may prefer not to sit for hours in the sun, trying to get a summer glow on their skin. Here, I look at a top-rated product perfect for the summer vibe. A product that gives the skin a natural shimmer even when it may still be our natural colour from lack of sunlight.

When it comes to feeling good and confident in our skin, we almost feel like we should have a gorgeous tan to show off to others.

It’It’svely to have a sun-kissed glow, and we do feel so much better after some well-needed vitamin D (the sunshine vitamin) after the cold months. We can still get a similar look and feel with this suitable product.

The ingredients in Shimmering Body Oil

The Gold Regenesis Shimmering Oil makes the skin look more radiant, silky-soft and long-lastingly moisturised.

Grape seed oil smooths, regenerates, and nourishes the skin, and, together with vitamin E, it slows down its ageing processes.

Sweet almond oil improves its flexibility, preventing the occurrence of stretch marks.

Sunflower oil strengthens the lipid barrier and shows normalising properties.

    Shimmering body oil
Almond, sunflower and grape seed oil give the skin a natural glow and help to moisturise.

     The benefits

◾ Thanks to gold particles that beautifully underline the skin tone to give an instant summer glow and healthy look to the skin

◾ Contains a valuable cocktail of rejuvenating components to bring the skin to life

◾ Quickly absorbed by the skin without leaving an oily layer on it so you can carry on with your day

◾ Perfect for every skin type

    How to use

Only a couple of sprays are needed to achieve a wonderful glow on the skin, and this product can be used all over the body, including the face.

Those who already have a suntan from a holiday abroad or even in the UK will benefit from its shimmer.

It does show the skin off to its best, and with every movement of the body, the light reflects to give the perfect shine and glow.

I recommend spraying onto the skin after a shower or bath to ensure the skin is free from any residue and has the perfect base to soak into.

Exfoliated skin always looks better, and if you’re reverting to purchasing a bottle, you want your skin to appreciate its full potential.

The same applies to any fragrances you spray on the skin, like your favourite perfume or aftershave.

Lightly spray where you want to see a natural shimmer and wait a few minutes before getting dressed to allow the product to absorb into the skin. This will prevent any oils from contacting your favourite outfit.

Wash your hands after applying to the skin so the oil doesn’t transfer onto your favourite clothes.

Try three mini (50ml) award-winning body creams in this NEW limited-time set!

    A great alternative to make-up

Many women prefer not to wear cosmetics during the warmer months as it can be too hot to layer the skin with added products.

This product is a great alternative when we still want to feel and look fresh-faced without applying foundation or bronzer. If you still prefer a light base, perhaps for an evening out, a light mist over the foundation works well, too.

I loved the shimmer it gave my skin, especially on the collarbone and arms. It is the perfect accessory for summer days and nights to show off the skin and your favourite outfit.

Shake the bottle well before use, which will help the particles separate.

    The scent

Whilst many suntan lotions have a distinctive scent, one that I personally have never been keen on, the Shimming Body Oil is the complete opposite. It has a sweet, floral, fruity base and resembles FM 413 perfume. The La Vie Est Belle perfume inspires it. It is a delicate flower scent that stays on the skin and acts like its own fragrance. It’It’st overwhelming or heavy.

    Price: £24.00 from FM World

    Size: 100ml

My rating: 9 out of 10

The only downside to this product is that it lacks SPF, so be careful when wearing it during the daytime. The skin could burn if you sit out in the sun whilst wearing your shimmer oil. Ideally, it is more suited for use during a summer evening when the sunsun’smperature has dropped.

This product is great to take on holiday and spray onto your skin after spending the day in the sun.

With added ingredients to moisturise the skin, I loved the idea of applying a few sprays after being in the sun. You do get a fabulous shimmer when the skin already has a tan.

    Pillow Mist Spray Review

Have you ever used a pillow mist spray? Here’s a review of one of my favourites, Tropic So Sleepy. There’s nothing worse than feeling tired before going to bed and then finding that you’re wide awake for the next hour trying to sleep.

We’ve all been there as adults more so than children. They seem to have a knack and can drop off when their head hits the pillow. If only!

Being sleep-deprived can have a significant impact on our day-to-day activities, especially if we’ve had several nights of desperately trying to dose off with little success.

    Pillow mist spray review

It is unpleasant to wake up the following day feeling like you have been awake for most of the night. Many of us are already in the habit of watching TV until late, working, and looking at our screens before bed, and these combinations don’t assist us in any way.

The perfect solution in a bottle of pillow mist spray

I received a bottle of Tropic So Sleepy as a birthday gift last year. I had never used one before, but I was willing to give it a try to see if it worked. The ingredients alone were enough to help me sleep. The notes of lavender, chamomile, and frankincense essential oils in a 30ml bottle sounded heavenly and will help enormously with a good night’s sleep.

I have always been wary of spraying products directly onto my pillow. I am not keen on the idea that my skin could potentially touch the product as it soaks in while I move into different positions to get comfortable. The great thing about using a pillow mist spray is that although it is a pillow mist, you don’t have to spray it on your pillow.

Like other topical products that help sleep and the respiratory system, I like to apply the product to a tissue and then keep the tissue near my pillow so that I can still benefit from its properties.

By doing this, I know that the product will not come into contact with my skin and potentially cause a reaction. The first whiff of the Tropic So Sleepy product is lavender. Lavender is a beautiful flower not just for its vibrant colour but also for many of its healing properties.

    Pillow mist spray review
It is a beautiful scent to assist in a peaceful night’s sleep

There is almost a sense of instant calm as soon as the fragrance hits your nose, giving you the confidence that it will assist in a better night’s sleep.

Having not used it for several weeks, simply because I forgot that I had it in my bedside drawer and having had a few disturbed nights, I was keen to revisit this little product once again.

I’ve been used to waking up regularly through the night for several years, and that’s part and parcel of how my sleep pattern has settled. This has never really bothered me that much.

    Clock watching

It bothered me that I was finding it difficult to get to sleep in the first place. I looked at the clock every five minutes to see if the time had moved on as much as it felt like it had or if I had even fallen asleep and woken up again a short time later.

    Pillow mist spray review
There is nothing worse than constantly checking the alarm clock to see if we have been asleep or are still awake.

Sleep felt like it was overrated when we were younger. Why do we need to go to bed so early? What was the importance of sleep?

“I don’t want to go to bed!”

As we grow older, we learn and realise that sleep is essential to our everyday lives. Lack of a good night’s rest can have a detrimental effect on our mental health, our well-being, and our physical well-being.

We spent so many years in our youth fighting sleep and not wanting to go to bed and now as adults we are desperately going the other way in trying to get as much shut-eye as possible. The 30ml bottle requires 2 to 3 pumps 30 cm away from your pillow to aid a peaceful night’s sleep. It is 100% naturally derived and can be purchased on eBay.

Take a look at my article on pillow mist spray, where I show a selection of sleep sprays, their benefits, and the benefits of lavender, their main ingredient.

The ingredients in a bottle of Tropic So Sleepy pillow mist spray

Tropic So Sleepy contains chamomile, so let’s look at the benefits of this ingredient.

Chamomile is a beautiful mild tranquilliser containing apigenin, one of the bioflavonoids found in many plants. It helps reduce anxiety and causes sedation, both of which are needed for a restful night’s sleep. Chamomile tea also has enormous benefits. To have a peaceful night, our body needs to be in a relaxed state.

So, by using pillow sprays containing lavender and chamomile, we are well on our way to preparing our bodies for sleep. Most of us will aim for at least 6-8 hours, if possible.

Another ingredient in this little bottle of magic is frankincense. With properties similar to chamomile, frankincense helps to overcome stress, has aromatherapeutic benefits, and promotes relaxation. Sometimes, a winter cold can also be an added obstacle that stops us from falling asleep easily.

    Pillow mist spray review
Colds and flu put a stop to a restful night.

Many of us have attempted to sleep, but our noses are running, or our sinuses are blocked.

Why does this always happen at night ?!

Relaxing the body and mind, along with added aromatherapy oils such as eucalyptus, can help relieve such symptoms. So many people prefer topical solutions to help with everyday situations rather than taking medicines or supplements. The pillow mist spray is a beautiful creation and highly recommended.

I’m sure those with children have used Olbus oil in the past to help children with stuffy noses and coughs sleep, yet we forget to do similar things when we are adults and are struggling to sleep, too.

    FM Perfume No.413 Review

Have you tried FM World’s fragrances yet? They believe in simplicity regarding packaging and bottle style, and FM 413 is no exception.

    FM perfume no.413 review

As we head into the spring and are perhaps looking for a fragrance that sits more in the Asian/fruity family, FM is not short of choice.

No. 413 has been a prevalent scent over the past few years as its fragrance notes are very similar to those of La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme.

    Fragrance notes:

    Head: blackcurrant, pear

    Heart: iris, jasmine, orange blossom

    Base: chocolate pralines, patchouli, vanilla

This fragrance gives a sense of sweetness and flirtatious vibes and is a prevalent scent.

What’s great about this fragrance is that it also comes in a PHEROMONE perfume, INTENSE perfume ( which contains 30% perfume oil), a fragrance candle, a reed diffuser, a wardrobe fragrance and wax melts, to name a few.

Finding a scent that can be extended into the home to carry the beautiful spring/summer notes through every room is lovely.

So what makes this fragrance one of FM’s most popular? Many women love the smell of fruits and deep scents like vanilla and patchouli.

The Lancôme perfume, launched in 2012 and advertised by the beautiful Julia Roberts, has similar fragrance notes.

Celebrities endorsing perfumes encourage us to try that scent to give a sense of feeling and look just as gorgeous as our idols. The only missing ingredient from FM413 is Tonka Bean. If you were to try a sample of FM 413, the smell would be almost identical.

While FM creates its fragrances, it uses the same perfume oil as the designer fragrances created by DROM in Germany.

You can read the story of DROM here.

We already know that no one sees the packaging or fancy bottle when we purchase designer scents, and they can leave a massive dent in the purse/wallet, yet many are still hung up on the idea of owning expensive brands. FM is a cruelty-free fragrance company that stands out for being affordable and creating long-lasting fragrances.

As they have no celebrity endorsers or TV adverts, they can keep the cost down, and therefore, fans of the fragrances can buy several bottles of their favourite perfumes.

Having tried several and having a large selection of my perfumes over the years, I have to say that no.413 is one of my favourites. It’s also a favourite for one of my customers!

    FM no.413 perfume review

It’s suitable for all seasons as it has an oriental feel for wearing during the winter and a selection of fruity notes that pop through to give a spring/summer vibe.

Many women who currently wear La Vie Est Belle have said they can’t tell the difference between their designer bottled scent and FM 413.

It’s an ideal scent to wear during the daytime in the office or out for a lunch date with friends. If you fancy a more substantial version for an evening, there is the intense version option, too. How many designer fragrances give us that option?

FM 413 is a long-lasting fragrance, without a doubt, and will undoubtedly get you receiving compliments as I do when wearing it. Some will compare the Federico Mahora fragrance to that of La Vie Est Belle without understanding that this fragrance isn’t supposed to be a replica of the designer’s scent.

None of the FM perfumes should be compared to the designer scents because they are their brand and company.

Related Article: Buying Cheap Perfume Will Cost More

If you love sweet and long-lasting scents, then FM no.413 is worth trying. Order your sample here.

Some wearers have even noticed this scent lingers on clothing the following day after being sprayed.

Another great reason to purchase is if you want your clothes to smell gorgeous without washing them after the first wear. Due to its fruity and oriental notes, this perfume only requires a few sprays as it is instantly noticeable.

It will last around 6-8 hours and is one of the fragrances that linger more than others, so less is more with this bottle. I love that this bottle is designed so simply that it fits perfectly inside a handbag if you want to re-apply throughout the day.

    Vintage Perfumes For Women

There are so many perfumes on the market today; we have been using them for many years. Let’s take a look at ten vintage perfumes for women. Perfume dates back to 1371, when we saw the first modern alcohol-based fragrance for Queen Elizabeth of Hungary.

There are many collectors of vintage perfumes; this is another one and the world’s most expensive perfume to add to the collection.

Those who collect such fragrances find how scents have changed over the years intriguing.

    Vintage perfume for women
Vintage perfumes are still popular today.

They will also know that some ingredients, such as oakmoss, a species of lichen used in various fragrances, have been restricted in recent years.

Some have been banned as they are no longer considered safe in perfumes, so other fragrance notes have been sourced instead.

If you have a collection of vintage perfumes in your wardrobe, keep hold of them. Perfumes dating back to the 1950s such as the iconic bottle of Chanel No.5 are well worth keeping. Perfumes dating before 2000 and familiar brands are still worth keeping as they can be sold and money can be made from them.

We all have memories created by the perfume we used to wear. Some may still wear the same scent today, especially if it’s their signature fragrance.

Such perfumes bring special events to life, including happy and sad memories, and some lots are still on the market today to keep those memories alive. Some may see vintage perfumes as something our Nan used to wear—that strong and overpowering scent that lingers for hours and in every room. Many are delicate but unforgettable fragrances.

    Vintage perfumes for women

    1. Shalimar By Guerlain

The oldest perfume and an oriental fragrance was created in 1925 by the perfume house Guerlain, called Shalimar. It is named after the Garden of Shalimar and its history of being created by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal as a romantic gesture.

Its scent is still sold today and has fragrance notes of rose, tonka bean, jasmine and bergamot.

With base notes of musk, vanilla, and sandalwood, this bottle contains a beautiful combination of strong and elegant fragrance notes.

    2. Anais Anais L’original By Cacharel

Launched back in 1978 and named after Anaitis, the ‘Goddess Of Love‘, this fragrance is still trendy today and was the first fragrance produced by Cacharel.

It was a fragrance created to attract teenagers with its floral and youthful scent.

Fragrance notes of sandalwood, honeysuckle, orange blossom, lavender, lemon and bergamot certainly caught the younger generation’s attention. With its floral, pretty bottle, most teenagers owned a bottle of this distinctive scent.

    3. Opium By Yves Saint Laurent

There won’t be many who haven’t heard of Opium. Launched in 1977 and created by Jean Amic and Jean-Louis Sieuzac, this perfume has strong oriental notes and a distinctive fragrance. With top notes of plum, cloves, pepper, jasmine, coriander, bergamot, citrus, and West Indian bay, this spicy perfume should be worn with minimal application.

Added to the fact that this bottle is very distinctive, it’s possibly one of those perfumes that will go down in history. Nowadays, we also see Black Opium on the market.

With notes of pear, pink pepper, orange blossom, vanilla, patchouli, cedar, and cashmere wood, it’s just as powerful as the original. If you like potent scents that make a statement and can carry off such an iconic scent, take a look on Amazon.

    4. L’air Du Temps By Nina Ricci

We rarely hear of Nina Ricci’s perfumes, but they are one of the most popular of the 20th century, alongside Chanel No. 5.

Launched in 1948, this floral/ spicy perfume with its unique glass dove cap contains stunning jasmine, rose, sandalwood and amber notes to capture the sense of being ‘free‘.

It was created in the wake of World War II by the French perfumer Francis Fabron in collaboration with Nina Ricci. Roughly translated from French, it means ‘the trend we have now/something in the air’. With its brightly coloured box and elegant bottle, it does suggest summer, blue skies, and open spaces.

    Vintage perfumes for women

    5. Youth Dew By Estée Lauder

This fragrance, created in 1953, started as a bath oil. Women felt confident using it every day, and so it soon became a popular product as a fragrance.

In the 1905s, perfume was only bought as a gift from a husband or partner and not by women. Estée Lauder created this elegant bottled fragrance, and women soon fell in love with its spicy, amber, rich floral, and woody notes.

As men loved its scent, it became one of the sexiest fragrances ever created and still captures the hearts of many women today. Women will have heard and used the cosmetics we see in-store and online today, made by Estée Lauder, and Youth Dew is the first fragrance she created.

It’s a true classic. If you’re a lover of rose, lavender, jasmine, spices, and patchouli notes, take a look at eBay.

    Vintage perfumes for women

    6. Mitsouko By Guerlain

This is another vintage perfume by Guerlain, and on first impression, this bottle looks a little masculine. Launched in 1919, Mitsouko captures this bottle’s chypre and fruity fragrance family. It also has a combination of beautiful notes.

With jasmine, rose, cinnamon, amber, peach, lilac, oak moss and bergamot, this fragrance was inspired by the story of impossible love between Mitsouko and a British officer. With such a combination of scents, it’s not your average daytime perfume, but it has heavy base notes of amber, oak moss, and cinnamon. It’s not the cheapest fragrance on the market either, but it’s well worth trying if you get the chance, purely for such beautiful fragrance notes.

    7. L’Heure Bleue By Guerlain

Another fragrance created by Guerlain, this one was launched in 1912 and contains beautiful notes of coriander, bergamot, violet, cloves ylang-ylang, jasmine, orchid vanilla, Sandalwood, musk, and tonka bean. In its distinctive bottle, it is classed as one of Guerlains’s best classic fragrances. According to Vogue, it is a symbol of royalty, as it is one of the Queen’s favourite scents, alongside Floris, white rose EDT.

    8. Apres L’Ondee By Guerlain

Jacques Guerlain created this perfume in 1906, with its combination of violet, orange blossom, and spicy Anais notes. Apres L’onee (April shower) is a springtime fragrance after a rain shower.

This scent captures the freshness that reaches our noses as the rain hits the countryside, and then the sun comes out to warm the scent of the wet leaves again. Guerlain showcases many perfume fragrances and has a history of being one of the world’s most incredible perfume houses.

    9. Tabu By Dana

Tabu was created by the French perfumer Jean Carles and launched in 1932 by a company also associated with Nina Ricci and Christian Dior.

It’s not the most elegant bottle for a female perfume, with a simple design, an almost ‘old’ and ‘heavy’ appearance, and a dark bottle, but its fragrance notes make up for it.

A mixture of patchouli ( and a high dose at 10% ) combined with clove, bergamot, orange, Coriander, rose, ylang-ylang, Sandalwood, musk and amber gives us a heavy oriental scent and one of the world’s first most robust.

    10. Arpege By Lanvin

This fragrance, named after the musical term ‘arpeggio,’ was released in 1927 and is a classic among some of the world’s most famous perfumes. Similar to Chanel N0.5, Arpege is very much a flower perfume. It contains peach, orange blossom, honeysuckle, iris, rose, vanilla, musk, geranium, Sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver. It is quite a simplistic bottle with a black base and gold cap. Paul Vacher and Andre Fraysse created it.

    Celebrity Endorsed Perfumes

We see celebrity-endorsed perfumes everywhere, online and on the high street. So when did it all start? 1987 Elizabeth Taylor began the trend when she launched her perfume, Passion.

The first celebrity to begin the endorsement trend

This wasn’t her first fragrance, either. She created her signature fragrance called White Diamonds in 1991, but the success came with the release of Passion 3 years earlier, which became one of the best-selling fragrances ever. Surprisingly, Passion isn’t as expensive to purchase as you may think.

With such an iconic celebrity at the forefront of this trend, it wasn’t long before the likes of Paris Hilton, Jennifer Aniston, and Beyoncé became just some celebrities who saw a market and a platform for following in her footsteps. It’s well-known that having a celebrity behind their perfume will help massively with perfume sales.

Do men and women purchase a designer fragrance because of the name behind it? Perhaps they did a few years ago, but these days, it’s not just the name behind the brand that matters. After all, there’s little point in purchasing a Beyoncé fragrance just because such a music icon is behind its creation.

We purchase perfumes for their fragrance notes and longevity, too. Women and men need to like the scent when wearing it. It’s a waste of money if the bottle sits in the wardrobe and is never worn. It’s not just perfume that celebrities have endorsements for, either.

Clothing, jewellery, and handbags all have a touch of celebrity attached. Items endorsed by famous people will sell much quicker, too. It’s a very clever marketing strategy that has been around for many years.

    Celebrity endorsed products

When a celebrity endorses a product, the product can reach a larger audience and, therefore, make more sales. For example, when we see a perfume endorsed by Beyoncé, it immediately gives the buyer confidence in their purchase, as the person behind the brand is well-known. Having such an iconic celebrity also makes the product more appealing. Have you noticed how attractive the celebrities who endorse products are? It makes them more enchanting.

    Buying a well-known perfume

Purchasing perfume from a celebrity positively impacts the buyer. When they wear the fragrance created by their favourite singer/celebrity, it instantly gives them confidence. The consumer also feels more important because they are wearing such a fragrance. Whenever we see a perfume being advertised on TV, it will always have a famous face in the commercial.

Would it be the same if some random person off the street posed in an elegant dress whilst holding a bottle of perfume? Of course not.

We are very much influenced by successful people around us, and selling a product on TV with a pop star or film actor is incredibly powerful for the consumer market. As buyers, we feel an instant connection to the celebrity and almost feel as famous and well-known as the idol we look up to.

A friend commenting on our latest perfume purchase and commenting how gorgeous you smell is an instant hit for confidence when you tell them which one you have bought. You will also notice that celebrity fragrances don’t have a considerable price tag—certainly not as high as purchasing designer fragrances from popular creators such as Chanel or Tom Ford.

If you find a bottle of Kylie Minogue’s latest scent (2021),  Darling, it doesn’t have a hefty price tag. It can easily be purchased on eBay.co.uk for an affordable price.

That’s a whole new level when we see other designer brands, such as Lancôme, with Julia Roberts as their endorser and ambassador. She is the face behind the iconic brand, and you will see her advertising their fragrance on TV, more often but not limited to Christmas.

‘Unlike the pop stars with their own named fragrance on the shelves, Julia Roberts is simply the one who advertises the brand, not the person who has influenced and created the fragrance notes, bottles and packaging.’Unlike the pop stars with their own ‘named’ fragrance on the shelves, Julia Roberts is simply the one who advertises the brand, not the person who has influenced and created the fragrance notes, bottles and packaging.

    Keeping the money coming in

Another reason celebrities endorse products is to keep them in the limelight even when they’re not. It’s a way of creating additional revenue for the stars without having to take on the responsibility or do a great deal compared to holding a concert or attending a talk show.

    Celebrity endorsed perfumes
Celebrities look for other ways of making money when the concerts are not taking place.

Money earned in the background is appealing to everyone, especially celebrities. If their other income is slow or dried up, with no album sales or films to make, it’s the perfect solution for them. They also know that their celebrity status will help massively with sales as customers buy their perfumes.

How much do celebrities earn from endorsing perfumes?

To begin with, this will depend on who the star is. If it is a well-known, hugely popular, and big influencer, they are likely to earn big money. One of the top endorsers and highest paid is Charlize Theron, who has been the face of Dior since 2004 and is one of the most famous perfume ads.

The iconic 2014 advert sees the actress dressed in gold climbing a silk scarf up to the skylight of an elegant building. She throws off her gold pearls and states that the ‘future is gold’ as she walks across the roof with city buildings surrounding her. It’s no wonder the advert and celebrity alone will have customers reaching for such a perfume as J’adore.

With fragrance notes of pear, melon, mandarin orange, bergamot, Jasmine, musk, vanilla, blackberry and cedar, to name a few, the famous fragrance has an instantly fresh summer vibe within its first spritz. The first sniff of fruit and elegance makes this perfume one of the top sellers.

According to reports, Charlize Theron signed a $3 million deal to be the face behind the Christian Dior J’adore perfume and the ads are still shown on screen today. Since becoming the face of J’adore, she has earned an estimated $55 million over the years. That’s some endorsement profit!

    Holly Willoughby perfume

Holly Willoughby is the latest celebrity to join in creating her fragrance in February 2022. The popular TV presenter has a new fragrance as part of her Wylde Moon brand called (borrowed from) The Wild. With top fragrance notes of Bergamot, Blackcurrant and Geranium, heart notes of Jasmine, Mint and Rose Absolute, and base notes of Amberwood and musk, Holly’s perfume is a huge hit.

Fresh, feminine, and a little heavier than floral, the bottle is simplistic and elegant, with a tassel on its cap. Fans are a little divided about the price of £42 for a 50ml EDP bottle. Some will purchase not just because of the beautiful fragrance but also because of the well-loved and admired celebrity behind its creation.

We are all influenced by beauty, success and down-to-earth celebrities.
