Mother’s Day Gifts
Mothering Sunday falls on 10th March 2024 here in the UK, and we offer a selection of Mother’s Day gifts to cater to all the mums out there.
Why do we celebrate Mother’s Day?
Around the world, many countries observe Mother’s Day. It is a special day dedicated to showing appreciation for all the remarkable things mothers do. It’s a celebration of the emotional bond and the essence of motherhood. Without our mothers, we wouldn’t be here today.
Even before a child is born, the connection that her mother has to her unborn child is like any other. We have already started building the incredible bond way before the baby has arrived in the world.
Dating back to the 16th century, Mothering Sunday began as a Christian holiday celebrated by Catholics and Protestants. On this day, people would visit their “mother church”, which is the church where they were baptized or the one they attended while growing up. This day was also known as Laetare Sunday, which falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent.
Possibly the only day in the year when families could get together, and children would stop off on their way to church to pick flowers and make beautiful bouquets for their mothers.
An iconic day, it appeared to diminish significantly as the 20th century progressed until the 1950s.
Businesses and wholesale trade to sort a gap in the market and began the vast, lucrative trading opportunity we see today. It is a way of making money from such an iconic event. Places including Canada, New Zealand, and Mexico celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, the 10th of May, sometime after the UK celebrates. Children would make presents to give to their mothers.
A day to show appreciation
Whatever date Mother’s Day is held, the day symbolises the same thing – to show mothers how much they are appreciated. Of course, every day should be a day to show mothers how much we appreciate them and what they do.
Mother’s Day gifts
Having a particular date to celebrate has become a tradition at many yearly events, such as Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, and Easter.
Everyone loves to spoil their mum. After all, she is the one who has brought us into the world and along with our dad, she has given us the life skills that we need as adults. There is no shortage of ideas for treating mums on such a special day. Traditionally, flowers are purchased. Discover some additional gift ideas that our mothers will undoubtedly treasure.
Selecting perfume as a gift can sometimes feel challenging because scent preferences are subjective. However, when it comes to family, especially our mothers, we typically have a good understanding of their favourite fragrances.
This familiarity could stem from years of being around them or simply paying attention to the scents they use. If unsure, a quick peek into their wardrobe can provide valuable clues. Observing the array of perfume bottles displayed on their shelf can reveal their preferred brands or types of scent, making the selection process easier.
Ultimately, this knowledge allows us to choose a gift that reflects our thoughtfulness and aligns with our mum’s taste and style.
Why Choose to Buy Perfume for a Gift?
Choosing perfume as a gift offers several compelling reasons. Firstly, perfume is inherently personal, making it a thoughtful and intimate gift choice. It allows the giver to express their understanding of the recipient’s tastes and preferences, creating a meaningful connection between them.
Additionally, many people refrain from purchasing perfume for themselves, often waiting for special occasions or duty-free opportunities to acquire a new bottle. This makes receiving perfume as a gift special, as it provides the recipient with a luxury they might not indulge in for themselves.
However, the costliness of many fragrances can sometimes pose a challenge. Fortunately, there are alternatives to expensive designer labels that still offer exceptional quality and delightful scents.
One such option is FM (Federico Mahora), a brand renowned for its designer-inspired fragrances at affordable prices. By opting for FM fragrances, gift-givers can provide their loved ones with the luxury and elegance of designer scents without overspending.
This facilitates the more frequent perfume gifting, allowing recipients to delight in scents without incurring high costs. Perfume continues to be a classic and valued present that pleases the senses, whether for a special event or as a token of gratitude.
Wax melts
Giving perfume is not the only option when buying a thoughtful gift for your mum. Another excellent choice is a wax melt burner paired with perfumed cubes. This combination creates a delightful sensory experience that can enhance the ambience of any room.
Wax melt burners offer a unique way to enjoy fragrances. The wax cubes slowly melt, releasing their scent into the air. This process ensures a long-lasting fragrance that fills a room with a beautiful aroma for hours. Plus, wax melts come in various scents, allowing you to choose the perfect fragrance to suit your preferences.
Not only are wax melt burners a practical gift, but they also add a touch of elegance to any space. With sleek and stylish designs, they can complement any decor style and become a beautiful addition to the home.
Additionally, wax melt burners offer a safe alternative, ensuring peace of mind for both you and your mother. They eliminate the need for an open flame, reducing the risk of accidents. Furthermore, numerous wax melt burners have safety features like temperature control to guarantee secure usage.
Pillow mist spray
Transition into motherhood is often accompanied by a severe lack of sleep, a challenge experienced by many new mothers, including myself. I vividly recall those exhausting days when falling asleep seemed like an overwhelming challenge. Despite feeling utterly drained from the relentless cycle of caring for a newborn, achieving restful sleep remained hard to reach.
Amidst this struggle, I discovered the soothing benefits of a gentle pillow mist. With a light spritz, the air around me would fill with delicate fragrance notes, instantly calming my restless mind. As I inhaled the aroma, I found myself gradually disconnecting from the stresses of the day, which allowed my body and mind to relax. The gentle scent served as a gentle invitation to let go of worries and tension, paving the way for a peaceful and rejuvenating sleep.
For new mothers navigating the demanding journey of early parenthood, using a pillow mist can be valuable in promoting restorative sleep. By incorporating this simple yet effective ritual into their bedtime routine, mothers can create a serene environment conducive to relaxation and sleep. Thus, amidst the challenges of caring for a newborn, a spritz of pillow mist offers a precious opportunity for much-needed rest and rejuvenation.
Scented candles are popular in many households due to their widespread popularity. Lighting them at the end of a tiring day can aid relaxation and infuse any room with a delightful ambience.
Fortunately, We have a wide selection of candles with several options available. If your mother has a favourite scent, we offer matching candles that can enhance the ambience of any room and bring it to life.
These fragrant sticks offer a delightful alternative to candles, making them an excellent choice for gifting when candles aren’t suitable or if Mum prefers a more subtle room scent without an open flame.
These versatile fragrance sticks are suitable for the living room, bedroom, or any other part of the house. They are available in different scents tailored for women and unisex options.
Their long-lasting fragrance can infuse the air for up to 70 days, providing freshness and ambience. Encased in an elegant design, these sticks are functional and add a touch of sophistication to any home decor, making them a perfect addition to any room in the house.
Solid perfume
Solid perfumes have become popular, emerging as a favoured alternative to traditional sprays. Their rise to prominence stems from several key advantages. Firstly, they provide a convenient solution for travellers, offering a compact and mess-free option that alleviates worries about spills or liquid restrictions during airport security checks or customs inspections. This portability makes them ideal for on-the-go use, whether for a weekend getaway or a long-haul journey.
Furthermore, solid perfumes cater to individuals who may find spray fragrances overwhelming or those with sensitivities to liquid scents. The subtle application of solid perfume allows for more control over the intensity of the fragrance, ensuring a more nuanced and personal experience. This characteristic suits those who prefer a subtle or inconspicuous fragrance profile.
Moreover, solid perfumes often incorporate nourishing ingredients such as shea butter or beeswax, which impart fragrance and provide moisturising benefits to the skin. This dual functionality makes them a preferred choice for individuals looking to enhance their scent while simultaneously caring for their skin.
Wardrobe fragrances
Introducing a hanging wardrobe fragrance into your closet can transform the entire experience of selecting and wearing your clothes. Not only does it ensure that your garments remain fresh and clean-smelling, but it also adds a delightful hint of fragrance to the air every time you open the wardrobe door.
Imagine opening your closet each morning to be greeted by a gentle, uplifting scent that instantly invigorates your senses. You browse your clothes, and each item exudes a subtle aroma, infusing your wardrobe with a refreshing ambience. This enhances your closet space and elevates the pleasure of selecting your outfit for the day.
Moreover, the benefits extend beyond just the olfactory experience. A hanging wardrobe fragrance can help to neutralize any musty odours or staleness that may linger within your closet, particularly in spaces with limited ventilation. By effectively combating unpleasant smells, the wardrobe fragrance ensures that your clothes always smell clean and inviting, enhancing your confidence and comfort throughout the day.
The lingering fragrance left on your garments adds an extra layer of allure and sophistication to your attire. Whether you’re dressing for work, a social event, or simply lounging at home, the subtle scent from your clothes subtly enhances your style and leaves a lasting impression.
With a convenient handle to hang on the clothing rail between your clothes, these fragrances will last around three months before needing to be replaced.

Body lotion is a skincare essential that offers numerous benefits for everyone, and when it’s scented, the experience becomes even more enjoyable. Our skin often suffers from dryness, especially during extreme weather conditions like the scorching heat of summer and the biting cold of winter. In summer, the high temperatures can lead to dehydration, while winter’s low temperatures, coupled with indoor heating, can strip the skin of its natural moisture.
Incorporating a body lotion into your daily routine becomes crucial during these times to combat dryness and keep your skin hydrated and supple. Applying lotion after a bath or shower is particularly beneficial as it helps seal in moisture and replenish any lost hydration from hot water, which can leave the skin feeling parched.
Moisturized skin serves as an ideal canvas for fragrances like perfume or cologne. Well-hydrated skin helps to lock in scent molecules, allowing your chosen fragrance to linger longer and develop more beautifully on your skin. This synergy between skincare and fragrance enhances your overall scent experience and ensures you fully enjoy your favourite perfumes or colognes.

Signature Fragrances
A signature fragrance is a scent that someone always wears—the smell you instantly recognise and belongs to a particular person. While many of us prefer to wear different perfumes for different occasions, others will wear the same fragrance all the time, known as their signature scent.

If you have a friend who wears the same perfume every day, you start to recognise this, and as soon as you have a hint of that particular fragrance, it reminds you of it.
It can be nice to have one particular fragrance you wear, especially if it’s your absolute favourite, but having a more extensive perfume collection for different occasions does work best in the long run. Depending on the fragrance notes, a signature scent may be perfect for the daytime but unsuitable for an evening out.
Recognised by Routine: The Everyday Uniform
It’s like wearing the same clothes daily—there’s no sense of uniqueness or individuality, and people start to recognise you solely by what you wear. In the small village in Bedfordshire where I live, a few of us go for a daily walk. Some are instantly recognisable because they wear the same outfit whenever they go out.
Like many others, I like to wear a different outfit. The same principle applies to wearing perfumes. Because of their fragrance notes, winter perfumes can be far too heavy to wear during the summer. Winter scents usually have heavier notes, such as:
- Oriental
- Spicy
- Woody
- Ambergris
Strong winter scents can be over-powering for a signature scent Summer notes are more delicate, such as :
- Floral
- Citrus
- Vanilla
- Lavender
- Fruit
Choosing delicate floral scents works well. The Seasonal Shift: Why Fragrance Variety Matters
Wearing the same fragrance daily can feel monotonous, not just for you but also for those around you, much like repeatedly wearing the same outfit. A light summer fragrance can lose its impact in the winter, while a heavy winter scent can feel overwhelming in the summer—like wearing summer clothes in cold weather or bundling up in winter attire during the heat. We wouldn’t do that. However, for some, sticking to one perfume is simply more practical, especially given the high cost of designer fragrances.
Designer fragrances can be costly if you want to own more than one bottle. Some may not be able to afford more than one bottle, but if you pick the right scent, depending on its fragrance notes, it can be worn every day. Every occasion needs a unique scent, so it is good to have a few different perfumes to fit those occasions.
FM World has unique scents that allow you to own more than one fragrance at an affordable cost. Please look at our online shop, which offers a selection of fragrances.
Sometimes, we like to wear a lighter perfume for the daytime, something that’s not too overpowering, such as when working in an office. Other occasions to wear a light signature perfume would be attending a funeral or a wedding.
Thinking about our surroundings and who we will be sitting with can influence the perfume we spray. Imagine sitting in the cinema, at a work conference, or inside a church, and you have the most robust fragrance out of everyone.
Not only will you smell the scent yourself, but those around you will be impacted, too. It’s very off-putting and can cause the other person to cough if the scent is too strong.
Not everyone wants to smell somebody else’s fragrance. A delicate, light, floral scent is harmless if it doesn’t over-power and disappears shortly after the first sniff. Having a smell that lingers for a few hours is not good. This can also happen if you spray too much. Less is more in the perfume and cosmetics world. Please read our article about using perfume correctly.
The Power of Variety: How Changing Your Fragrance Draws Attention
Another advantage of wearing a different fragrance is that people are likelier to notice and appreciate your scent because it’s not the same as the one you wore yesterday. Everyone loves receiving compliments; switching up your perfume can make you stand out.
Comments like, “I love your perfume; what are you wearing?” can lead to recommendations, whether it’s about a fragrance, a movie, or a restaurant. Working in the perfume industry allows me to experiment with different scents. When someone notices something unique, I can easily share which fragrance I wear and offer recommendations.
Choosing the Perfect Signature Scent: Subtlety and Sentiment
If you prefer to stick with a signature perfume, make sure it’s a subtle, delicate scent. This is the fragrance that others will associate with you, so it’s important not to choose one that’s too overpowering. It can have the opposite effect and even drive people away! The perfume industry is vast for a reason—we all love to smell great, so why not embrace it?
Some people stick to one fragrance because it holds sentimental value, reminding them of cherished memories, like wearing a particular scent on their wedding day. Unlike celebrities, who often develop their signature fragrances, you don’t need to go that far. Find a scent suitable for most seasons—something light and delicate that won’t overwhelm—and you’ll have the perfect everyday perfume.
What type of scent should you wear?
Matching a fragrance to your personality is essential when choosing a signature scent. If you spend much time outdoors, you may want more woody, musk, or spicy notes.
Romantic perfume notes will turn heads. Please read our article on perfume sillage and find out what the perfect scent should be like.
Above all, your signature fragrance should be flattering, not overpowering and make people remember you and think of you in the best possible way.

How Is Perfume Made?
Millions of us, both men and women and even children, love to wear perfume, but how is perfume made? Whether for a night out, just to wear when meeting a friend for coffee, or a day in the office, perfumes are a hugely popular product and have been around for thousands of years.
Cleopatra was a well-known perfume wearer from ancient history Wearing perfume can have many benefits, such as lifting our mood, complimenting an outfit, or grabbing the attention of the secret admirer. It’s become part of our everyday wear, and we have lots to choose from with so many on the market today.
We have already covered how to store perfume correctly and how to use perfume to get the most out of your scent, but what about where perfume comes from?
The history of perfume dates back to ancient times, as far back as 3,000 BC. The Greeks first created perfumes in the same way they are created today.
The creation of perfume
Many raw materials are required before the manufacturing process starts. Ingredients such as spices, leaves, fruits, resins, and flowers are all used during the first stages of creating a perfume.
Spices Leaves Fruits Resins It will be challenging to create a perfume without floral essences without adding flowers. Most perfumes are based around floral scents, which are essential ingredients. When we think of fragrances like Chanel, we think of their perfumes made from their flower fields.
This is to ensure they have enough product to create their perfumes. Chanel is the largest fashion brand in the world, and Chanel No. 5 is an iconic perfume.
Animal products, such as musk and ambergris, can also be present in perfumes. Musk is very commonly used as a base note in perfumes, and it is secreted from animals such as the musk deer.
The musk deer The sperm whale Incredibly, ambergris is produced in the digestive system of sperm whales, which means that whale poo is used in perfumes. The smell matures, and as it ages, it develops into a beautiful scent that, once diluted with alcohol, is used in perfumery.
It’s not always easy to obtain perfume scents from nature, so synthetic chemicals are sometimes used instead.
Nowadays, we have a world of cruelty-free perfumes, so using synthetic chemicals can save the lives of animals that are killed for the oils used to make perfumes. Many perfume companies, such as FM WORLD, are cruelty-free.
How the oil is extracted for making perfume
Oil is first extracted from flowers and plant material to create fragrances. One way to extract oil from plants is by expression. The plants are squeezed until the oil is released, like squeezing the juice out of an orange or a lemon. Another method for boiling plant parts is to steam the plants to extract the oils. This process is known as steam distillation.
Another method involves dissolving plant parts in benzene and then exposing them to ethyl alcohol. The alcohol is then burned off so that the perfume oil remains and can be used.
Are you curious as to why perfume is so expensive?
When oil from around 660 roses is taken to create a 15ml bottle of French perfume, it’s no surprise why fragrances cost a lot of money.
Along with the celebrity endorsers, fancy packaging and sales assistance, it’s easy to see how a small bottle of perfume can end up with a hefty price tag.

How the experts create a perfume scent
It’s not a quick process when it comes to creating perfumes. It can take many years, and many ingredients before the experts reach the desired scent and formula. Of course, the result is a genuine perfume that we can wear for around two years and be complimented by others.
The experts must take time, extensive testing, and mixing to create the perfect scent.
Once the formula is created, the extracted oils are blended. When the experts have reached their desired scent, they mix alcohol to dilute the ingredients.
The stronger the perfume, the more alcohol is added to the mixture. Cologne, for example, contains the most alcohol.
When you purchase an eau de toilette, it will contain less alcohol than cologne. If you are buying a perfume, it will have the least amount of alcohol and, therefore, the most potent scent.
Perfume contains around 40% of essential oils, and cologne contains around 10%.

What happens after the oil and scents have been added
Once the oils have been extracted from the plants and blended in with alcohol, the mixture is ready for ageing. The perfume is set in a dark, cool room to do this. It will then stay there for several months without being disturbed or touched.
Whilst the perfume has been left, this will help to bind the oils and the alcohol together. Quite commonly, the smell will be more pungent after the ageing process. Adjustments to the blending can take place at this time.
When you see a bottle of perfume in a department store, getting there has been a long process. It will have been thoroughly tested to ensure the scent is perfect and how it should be before it is allowed to go on sale to the public.
So the next time you purchase a bottle of your favourite perfume, remember just how long it’s taken to get onto the shelves and in your possession.

Scented Wardrobe Fragrances – A Review
Our homes are filled with scented fragrances, so I wanted to share a review of scented wardrobe fragrances with you all. We’ve seen the candles, the wax melts, and the room sprays—all are very popular. So what about making our wardrobe smell good, too?
Working with a perfume company for the past seven years, we are never short of fragrance products to use and recommend. I firmly believe that we need to try something before purchasing. It makes sense, right? We wouldn’t recommend a film or a restaurant to a friend if we’ve never seen the movie or eaten at the restaurant.

Who remembers when fragrance pouches were used to pop inside the sock drawer or fragranced draw liners from eBay to give the same effect? We all want our clothes to smell fresh, and to some extent, they do when they are first washed. In the UK, we can have several seasons in one month, so we don’t get the opportunity to pack our summer clothes away and put them into the loft.
You can guarantee as soon as one of your favourite items of spring clothing is packed away for summer, we will get a spring-like day and wish we weren’t so hasty. Wardrobe fragrances can give off a subtle scent and are a wonderful creation that adds a hint of perfume to the wardrobe.
Suitable for men and women
It’s common knowledge that ladies tend to have more room for their clothes, and the men are left with a small rail, clothes smashed up, fighting for extra space. Women have more clothes, so we should have more space, right? My husband would beg to differ.
FM has created a unique wardrobe fragrance so that even when both sets of clothes are shared in one wardrobe, both partners can benefit from fresh-smelling laundry. The great thing about these fragrances is that they don’t have to be confined to the wardrobe.
Our wardrobe fragrances come in 12 different scents. Just because they’re called a wardrobe fragrance doesn’t mean we can’t use them elsewhere. They can also be hung in the car or on a curtain rail.

More than just a wardrobe fragrance
I have one hanging on the indicator stick to keep my car smelling fresh, as I have found many car fragrances can be overpowering. I also have one hanging from the back door curtain pole in the kitchen. Keeping a kitchen smelling fresh is more challenging as sprays are not recommended. They can coat kitchen surfaces when settled, which isn’t great when surfaces are needed for cooking. With a handy shape that fits around the wardrobe pole, they are simple to use and last a few months.

Scented Wax Melts Review
Scented wax melts review.
It wasn’t until early in 2021 that I came across scented wax melts. What an excellent alternative to candles! They are elegant, simple to use, and instantly create a cosy atmosphere.
These wax burners are quick and easy to use, and with so many stylish holders available, I knew I had found a great purchase.
Many of us currently use scented candles to give off a pleasant fragrance or reed diffusers that work similarly without a naked flame. They are long-lasting and provide an instant fragrance to fill the home.
Candles used to be very popular during the winter, especially around Christmas time, but we now see more and more homes having scented candles lit throughout the summer, too. Even our gardens have enjoyed a naked flame while we sit and watch the sun go down.
Wax melts are a reasonably new concept and product on the market. They were first created to use excess wax left over by candle makers, making them a great way to reuse leftover wax. Despite this innovation, candles have existed for thousands of years and remain popular today.
How to make your wax melts at home
Why are wax melts so popular?
Wax melts have gained popularity for several reasons. One of the main factors is the variety of attractive wax burners available on the market, allowing people to choose designs that complement their home decor. Additionally, melting wax in these burners is visually appealing and soothing to watch as the wax slowly liquefies under the flame. This process not only releases a pleasant fragrance into the room but also adds an element of relaxation and ambience to the environment.

You bring up an important safety consideration. While plug-in wax burners are generally safer than those using open flames like tea light candles, it’s crucial to be cautious when using any wax melt burner, especially in homes with young children or pets.
The liquid wax can become very hot and may pose a risk if accidentally knocked over. To minimise the risk of accidents, the burner must be placed in a secure and stable location. Additionally, it is advisable to keep it out of the reach of children and pets to ensure their safety.

Wax melts are known for their cost-effectiveness and longevity compared to traditional candles. It’s impressive to hear that a single set of four cubes has lasted over two months, primarily when used for six hours daily.
This demonstrates how a little goes a long way with wax melts, making them an excellent choice for those who enjoy continuous fragrance in their home without frequently replacing them.
Adjusting the number of cubes used to achieve the desired level of scent intensity is a convenient feature for users who prefer stronger or milder fragrances in their living spaces. Wax melts are a great way to fragrance the home for an extended period without overpowering the room.
There are some exquisite wax melt holders available online The portability and ease of wax melts undoubtedly add to their appeal. Their versatility allows you to switch fragrances easily, making it convenient for those who enjoy a variety of scents throughout the year or when travelling. Similar to traditional candles, their relaxation and therapeutic benefits are a significant draw for many people.
The wide variety of styles and fragrances available on the market ensures a wax melt option to cater to consumers’ diverse preferences. Everyone loves the smell of clean, crisp, and freshness in the home.
Benefits of using wax melts.
Lemon is a very versatile scent that instantly lifts our spirits, makes the home feel clean, and gives us a kick-start to the day.
Pine’s woody and fresh smell reminds us of the Christmas season. It is a great scent for those who need a little pick-me-up, as it helps to lower depression and stress—something I’m sure many of us could use from time to time!
Vanilla is one of those scents you either love or hate. While some will enjoy its sweet, warm, and sugary scent, others will find it too sickly. A positive benefit of using vanilla is its ability to uplift and bring joy and relaxation.
Lavender is possibly one of the most popular fragrances. Its delicate floral scent is subtle and has substantial healing properties. For those who suffer from anxiety, depression, disturbed sleeping patterns, or fatigue, a touch of lavender can make a huge difference. Lavender is a trendy scent used in aromatherapy and added to essential oils.
Most homes have a fragrance in some form or another. There’s nothing quite like sitting at your desk on a winter’s evening, with a gentle fragrance filling the room and the flicker of candlelight creating a cosy atmosphere. If you feel creative, you can combine small portions from a couple of different fragrance cubes to create your unique scent.
Apart from using them for your enjoyment, wax melts can also make a lovely gift for someone. Whether you choose a plug-in or the tea light candle style, the burners can be purchased from places like eBay.
If you are purchasing just the wax melts, you can buy them from several places online. FM Cosmetics also has a selection of wax melts that match some of your favourite fragrances.

Where To Buy Cologne Online
Men rarely shop for fragrances, so I will show you where to buy cologne online. Purchasing fragrances is very much a female thing. Men wait and see what they have purchased as a gift rather than going into the shops to look for themselves. Women enjoy browsing the stores and online. It’s like retail therapy.
Versace Jaguar Boss Even when women don’t purchase anything, going out and mingling is just as enjoyable.
Men and shopping
For men, shopping is often a quick dash into their chosen shop, and if they are looking online, the last thing they’re looking at is cologne. Show them a website with work tools, golf gear, or anything related to football, and they’ll certainly be interested. Of course, there will be some men who never wear cologne or aftershave.
Retail therapy Working from home
During the pandemic in 2020, and experiencing so many lockdowns, many males have been working from home with their offices in the dining room or a spare bedroom.
The last thing they are looking for is a fragrance. Many didn’t bother wearing one as they weren’t visiting customers face to face or having meetings in the office. So what about the ones who do like to wear cologne?
Women will have a better idea of how and where to shop for fragrances and will review all the factors before purchasing.
Cost, fragrance notes and sustainability
Men have a narrower idea of things to look out for, so they often buy hastily. The trouble with buying fragrances quickly and in haste is that all can make mistakes.
It’s not all about the price tag.
Many people see an expensive price tag and automatically assume that they are going to get a good-quality fragrance. This isn’t necessarily the case. More affordable fragrances can often be of better quality and longer-lasting. Several companies out there have proved just that, one of them being FM Cosmetics.
As we have covered previously, fancy packaging, fancy fragrance design, and celebrity endorsers can link to an expensive price tag. All these factors add up and can cost you a fair amount.
Any Tom Ford fans, I’m sure, will have come across the range with their hefty price tags, especially when buying direct. It’s important not to shy away from the lower-priced fragrances simply because they are cheaper.
We already know that the first whiff of a fragrance is not the same as the notes we smell by the end of the day. Many people believe that the initial scent of a perfume will last throughout the day. It is essential to try fragrance samples first if you can.
Adding a scent to your skin and leaving it for a few hours will determine if the middle and base notes are as suitable as the top notes. This is a more suitable option than using fragrance strips, as all fragrances smell completely different once they are on the skin.
It’s a misconception that fragrances with floral notes are just for women. Many men’s aftershaves and colognes on the market have a floral scent, even though they are still considered masculine. Several are suitable for women even though they sit in a department store in the men’s fragrances section.
These days, we don’t need to be gender-conscious. Many men are very visual when buying a cologne. They’ll see a bottle that looks masculine, have a whiff of the spray in-store, and purchase without much hesitation.
They want to be in and out of the shop quickly. With the vast selection of scents available in shops and online today, men don’t want to hang about sniffing five or six individual sprays at the perfume counter. Two or three will suffice.
Typically, they will aim for a brand that they know, and once this is in sight, they can then try two or three from that range. Men will use several other products before they add any cologne: shower gels, hair gel, deodorant, and perhaps a body lotion. This mixture will impact the choice of fragrance, and not just for the men.
Ladies will also use shower gels, hairspray, hand creams, and deodorant. The good news is that some products on the market complement a fragrance. Matching deodorant, body sprays, and hand cream will ensure you smell one fragrance instead of a concoction of scents. So, let’s take a look at some stores online.
Where to buy cologne online
FM Cosmetics has a great range of fragrances for men. All of their Pure and Pure Royal collection contains 20% perfume. There is also an intense range that contains 30% perfume, so if you prefer a scent that is a bit more stable,

Using Perfume Correctly
If you’re a perfume wearer, are you using perfume correctly? It’s surprising how many people don’t know how—from spraying excessively in the wrong areas to rubbing a fragrance on the wrists. All of these can hurt your fragrance.
You’ve bought yourself an expensive bottle of designer fragrance. Firstly, do you save it for a special occasion or wear it for work? It’s cost you a lot of money, so let’s save it for the best. What happens when we save a fragrance for a special occasion?

Saving perfume for a special occasion
The problem with saving fragrances for special occasions is that they will eventually go off and develop a musty smell that no one wants to wear or smell. You’ve spent a fortune on your favourite, and now the pretty little bottle with a hefty price tag sits in the wardrobe, waiting to be used.
Some fragrances can be powerful and overpowering, so spraying excessively can make the fragrance heavier than it should be. Others around you can smell it for several hours; if it’s strong, you can still smell it.
If you can smell your perfume for hours afterwards, it can trigger a headache and mean you have the wrong scent on your skin. No perfume should give you a headache or linger for the whole day.
Strong perfume can be very off-putting to others and expensive. So, how do we find the right amount of perfume to use?
Using perfume correctly
We’ve all heard the saying less is more and it certainly comes into its own when we talk about cosmetics and perfume. Heavy make-up and over-spraying of perfume scents is enough to put many off—especially the opposite sex.
I remember my late Nan wearing a hefty fragrance. A little spray really would have been enough, as the perfume was very strong and not the cheapest, even back in her day. What’s also important is how and where we apply our fragrance. Specific points on the skin and body will affect scents differently.
Top 10 Tips on using perfume correctly
1. Applying perfume after taking a shower or a bath will help your perfume last longer
2. Moisturising your skin will make your perfume last longer.
You can even use a body lotion or cream with the same scent as your perfume for even better enhancement.
3. Perfume loves to sit on moisturised skin, so trying a little petroleum jelly on your pulse points before you spray your perfume will help with its longevity.
4. Many people insist on holding the bottle in front of them as if they are spraying an air freshener. When applying perfume, it’s essential to choose the right points, which are the pulse points.
These warm points will help your fragrance sit for longer on the skin.
Our next 4 points
5. It’s a well-known habit that most women will rub their wrists together after spraying their perfume. What happens when we do this?
Rubbing your wrists together breaks the top notes, and rubbing your wrists together will make them disappear faster, so it’s essential to dab your wrists together to protect the fragrance notes.
6. Hold your perfume bottle at a distance so that large drops of the perfume won’t land on your skin. 5 to 7 inches away is good.
7. Avoid spraying perfume onto your clothes as it will stain.
8. When we buy designer perfumes, we must display them on our bedside cabinets for everyone to see. No one sees the beautiful display of perfumes apart from yourself and the people you live with.
If your bedside cabinet is near the sunlight coming through the window, then your fragrance won’t last as long as the heat evaporates the scent. It’s essential to keep them inside a dark cupboard, somewhere dry and away from light, and keep them in their original box so the bottles don’t get damaged.
9. As we have already covered, avoid wearing too much perfume.
Your fragrance should attract those around you and not the other way around.
Remember, less is more.
If you wear the same fragrance every day, you may have gotten used to the scent and, therefore, not be as aware of how others will smell your fragrance.
Please read my previous post on sillage and try wearing a different perfume every day.
10. Always choose a perfume with lighter family fragrance notes for daytime wear and heavier notes for the evening.
Alternate options
Getting out of old habits can be challenging. Somehow, we seem programmed to buy expensive perfumes, use them heavily and sometimes wear the wrong fragrance for our skin.
Alternative fragrances by FM Nowadays, there are alternatives; by that, we don’t mean cheap. I don’t like using the word cheap because it always comes across as unfavourable. I want to say it is less expensive and kinder for the purse/wallet.
There are many fragrances out there that are lighter on the purse strings, go a lot further when used correctly, and are still enjoyable, subtle, and longer-lasting for any occasion.

Network Marketing
In January 2020, a fellow hairdresser asked me why I was involved in Network Marketing. They pointed out that being a hairdresser should keep me busy enough.
For me, it wasn’t about staying busy; it was about having another source of income, something to fall back on.
As we age, our current jobs may not be suitable for us. The physical demands of lugging tools and leaning over clients’ baths to rinse their hair can seem daunting if I were to continue my career into my early 70s.
One day, a colleague asked me, “Do you do this through choice or more for the money? Because if it’s the money, you can increase your prices and do fewer clients.”
It was an interesting comment that I thought about carefully before answering.
I’ve been in hairdressing for over 32 years. It’s my passion. I enjoy meeting people, making them look and feel lovely, providing a service, and paying my bills, like any job.
I don’t increase my prices to work fewer hours. My clients know I work more hours than I should, but I love what I do. It’s so important to enjoy the work we do. We spend most of our lives at work, so why not do something you want?
I increase my prices yearly due to product price increases and fluctuations in fuel costs (we know how much that can vary!). I also keep up to date with my skills. Being a member of the FHA (Federation of Hairdressers and Beauty Therapists), it’s necessary to keep skills updated and learn trends. Above all, it’s beneficial for the clients, so I charge for this.
When I first began network marketing, it was more of a hobby that fit with my hairdressing career. However, I soon saw its potential and wanted to create another business. The idea of providing another excellent service and product to my existing client base seemed like the perfect solution and something I was looking forward to working on.
Over the years, this hobby has evolved into another business. I’ve built up a fantastic online community of friends who regularly purchase from me, and we support one another in each of our ventures. Supporting others is crucial whether you work in an office, a shop, or within a community, so working online is no different. It’s all about collaboration and helping each other succeed.

While working online may not offer the same level of personal interaction as face-to-face interactions, building meaningful relationships with customers over time is still possible, even if you never meet them in person. The key to successful online business relationships is consistent and genuine communication.
By providing excellent customer service, addressing their needs and concerns promptly, and offering valuable content or products, you can foster trust and loyalty among your online customers. Building a solid online presence through social media and online communities can also help you connect with your customers and create a sense of community around your brand.
So, my response to my fellow hairdresser’s question about why I work with an online company alongside hairdressing was that I do network marketing through choice, and the money is only a small part of why I joined. We all work for the money, whatever job we do, but helping others is a big part of working online.
I fell in love with the company’s products and have met some fantastic friends, leaders, and mentors. I also wanted to help others make money and save on shopping.
When someone new joins my team, I feel happy and content and want to help them make the most of their journey with FM World.
There are no shortcuts in life. We all have our reasons for doing what we do and for our career choices. For me, helping others far outweighs the money we can potentially earn.
Perfume is a popular product for both men and women, and I loved the idea that I could save money on my purchases while helping others—a definite win-win situation.
Since Chanel first created perfume, we have been accustomed to paying a fortune for designer perfumes, and many still do.
I would love to hear from you if you want to earn extra income and enjoy wearing fragrances and cosmetics. Please feel free to email me or join my team!!

The Cost Of Perfume
When designer fragrances are mentioned, perfume cost is often a talking point. Therefore, many of us focus on saving money. If we can find a suitable fragrance at a better price that suits our needs, we’re all for that. Working with a perfume company brings its fair share of questions.
One of the most frequently asked questions is what the difference is between designer fragrances and FM fragrances. Many have been sceptical over the years, especially when FM launched in the early days.
How can a perfume that smells almost identical to a designer one cost so much less? Here’s a breakdown of the difference and where your money goes when you purchase both.
Designer- the actual cost of perfume
When it comes to designer perfumes, we first think of fancy packaging. Some boxes are just as creative as the bottles, and it’s good practice to store them in the box away from direct sunlight. They will last longer when stored correctly.
One of the main features of designer perfumes is their stunning bottles. There are some gorgeous bottles in the stores, and this alone makes the product eye-catching for the customer. When a product stands out, we are more likely to purchase it.
One of the most distinctive bottles is Angel by Thierry Muglar. With the unique shape of a star, it’s not the most practical bottle as it doesn’t stand up independently. That one is best kept in its box.

Angel perfume by Thierry Mugler Another one likely to catch the eye is Good Girl by Carolina Herrera. It’s a very large bottle shaped like a blue stiletto shoe, and it’s another one that isn’t practical for every day.
We are a visual nation regarding designer bottles and packaging, especially if you want to take it in your handbag for a night out. Besides a small portion of money going towards the fancy packaging, what else does the customer pay for?
Celebrity perfumes
Every celebrity perfume will have a celebrity endorser.
BOSS ETERNITY MISS DIOR GUCCI JIMMY CHOO DKNY A celebrity endorser is someone famous who uses their status and fame to advertise a product or brand. They get paid thousands of pounds to advertise a product, such as a fragrance, in an advert that may only last 30 seconds. Everything from the hair, makeup, and wardrobe to the backdrop set or destination of the advert will cost money and lots of it.
The Impact of TV Advertising on Perfume Prices During the Holiday Season
TV advertising is another part of where our money goes. You’ll often see perfume adverts, especially around Christmas time, when TV bosses take advantage of viewers watching TV during the run-up to Christmas. Customers are looking for ideas for gifts, and what better way than to showcase a product during peak time?
Christmas adverts seem to start earlier each year, as early as October. The TV screen gets showered in adverts to encourage early sales.
The Production Journey and Longevity of Designer Perfumes
Designer perfume oil is diluted, so the expensive bottle of Chanel No 5 you’ve purchased won’t last as long as you’re hoping. We all expect a scent to last for the working day at best without the need to re-apply. This is the production line before your fragrance reaches your shopping basket.
Manufacturers ➡️ warehouse ➡️ distribution centre ➡️retailers ➡️ customers.
So, when we see what and who is involved in creating a designer perfume, it highlights why the cost can be expensive, especially for top-end brands.
Cost-Effective Packaging and Pure Oil: The FM Perfume Advantage
As we’ve just highlighted about the packaging of designer perfumes, FM uses simple packaging. We don’t need to put our bottles inside fancy boxes. No one sees the box when you purchase a new bottle, so why pay for it?
We also have a simple bottle design. When it comes to FM perfumes, customers are not paying for the bottle. It’s the contents inside that matter the most.
FM perfumes use pure oil. They don’t dilute the perfume oil, so your perfume will last much longer.
Distributor ➡️ customer—it’s a simple process, and because we don’t have a ‘middle man,’ we can keep the costs low for you. There is no advertising, endorsements, or expensive packaging.
Why Switching to Affordable, Long-Lasting Fragrances Makes Sense
We know the importance of having a fragrance that lasts and is kind to your purse/wallet.
Many of you have made the swap and are saving massive amounts on your fragrances.
Remember:
- No one sees the fancy box
- No one sees the fancy bottle
- Celebrities get paid thousands to advertise
- TV adverts cost thousands to produce
- Your perfume oil gets diluted
- There’s a long chain before the customer receives their product.
So, why are designer perfumes so expensive? It’s crystal clear.
We have samples of over 150 fragrances that you can try.

Everyday Perfume
You can wear everyday perfume to work or go shopping without feeling guilty. Imagine having a more affordable bottle for daily use, one you can spray frequently without worrying about being an expensive designer brand.
If you’re reading this, you likely have an interest in perfume. Do you wear a fragrance every day? Many men and women have a favourite scent they use for a daily spritz.
A daily spritz is familiar to many of us. The photo of FM 900 below is currently one of my favourites. It is a bottle of Pure Royal unisex fragrance that contains 20% perfume ( more than your designer bottle, which usually contains 16% as an EDT). This fragrance is Inspired by Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry. What does inspired mean exactly?
Genuine versus fake
- Copied?
- Fake?
- Cheap?
Our fragrances are none of the above. When we come across fake perfumes, several characteristics are not easily noticeable. The most common one will see a phoney perfume sold in the same style bottle as the designer’s and packaged with the same label to make it look like a designer’s fragrance.
As you can see from the picture, our Pure Royal bottle has a unique design—it has not been copied from anywhere. So what about its contents? Well, fake perfume has a darker tinge, while genuine perfume will be a very light colour.
Please take a look at my previous post, Drom Fragrances, which provides insight into where FM originates and how the story began.

The Limited Luxury of Designer Perfumes in the Past
I remember when purse strings restricted me to one or two designer perfumes in my wardrobe. Any more than that was a luxury, and the cost was a little out of my reach 30 years ago. It was a bonus if I had a bottle bought as a present.
When we own an expensive perfume bottle, we rarely spray it daily, such as when going out to work. Such perfumes can be costly, and we can’t justify wearing a pricey fragrance when going to the office or into town to do shopping. On a special occasion, the perfume was used and returned to the cupboard for the following evening out.
Embracing Affordable Luxury with FM: From Limited Choices to a Fragrance Wardrobe
When I started working with FM, the one thing that stood out above everything else was that I could make my purchases, save money, and own far more bottles of quality perfume than I ever had the chance to before.
This alone sold me the idea of working with a network marketing company. Imagine having access to over 150 perfumes, choosing which ones you like, purchasing them at a great price, and wearing your favourite every day.
Spraying a scent, knowing that the bottle can be replaced without waiting for a holiday and a visit to the Duty-Free or for someone to buy you a bottle as a gift, made working for a perfume company even more appealing.
So we fast-forward 30 years, and the wardrobe now has approximately ten different fragrances that can be worn at leisure. No more waiting for that special occasion—there is a different scent to wear every day.
Everyday perfume
FM allows us to choose a fragrance to match our outfits, regardless of where we are going, what we are doing, or what we are wearing. Don’t save your fragrances for a special occasion. Every day should be treated as your best day, so why not enjoy it with your favourite fragrance?
After two years of owning a perfume, opening it but not using it frequently will encourage the scent to ‘turn’ and smell musty. Once this happens, you won’t want to wear it, and those around you may make a sharp exit away from your company!
Choosing the right scent
There are so many wonderful daytime perfumes available, but these are the best ones to spray on before going to work or meeting a friend for lunch.
The best scent to use is one that isn’t overpowering to others around you and is delicate enough to still get others asking what you are wearing. Floral, oriental, and citrus notes are perfect.
Fragrances with a stronger, more powerful scent, like wood, cedar, and vanilla notes, are best used for a night out when you want to make more of an impact. Many of you may not wear a fragrance during the day for many reasons. Some may feel it’s not necessary, and some may see perfume as just an evening accessory.
Related Article: Finding the Right Scent
Before I was introduced to FM, I was the same. I used to wear White Musk from The Body Shop, as this was a delicate scent suitable for daytime and evening and didn’t break the bank. Over the past few years, FM has also introduced a body mist that is ideal for daytime use and is especially good for hot weather when our usual perfume feels too heavy.
These days, affordable fragrances are available wherever we shop, whether online or in-store. However, try to steer away from open markets, where you’re more likely to purchase a fake without realising it.
We love to help others save on purchases and make extra money, so if you have a question about perfume or are interested in working with us, we’d love to hear from you.
You can afford to have more than one perfume and wear your favourite daily.
