Mothering Sunday falls on 15th March 2026 here in the UK, and we offer a selection of Mother’s Day gifts to cater to all the mums out there.

Even before a child is born, the connection her mother has to her unborn child is the same as any other. We had already started building the incredible bond long before the baby arrived.

Dating back to the 16th century, Mothering Sunday began as a Christian holiday celebrated by Catholics and Protestants. On this day, people would visit their “mother church”, which is the church where they were baptised or the one they attended while growing up. This day was also known as Laetare Sunday, which falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent.

Possibly the only day in the year when families could get together, and children would stop off on their way to church to pick flowers and make beautiful bouquets for their mothers.

An iconic day, it appeared to diminish significantly as the 20th century progressed until the 1950s.

Businesses and wholesale trade filled a gap in the market and began the vast, lucrative trading opportunity we see today. It is a way of making money from such an iconic event. Places including Canada, New Zealand, and Mexico celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, the 10th of May, sometime after the UK celebrates. Children would make presents for their mothers.

A Day To Show Our Appreciation

Whatever date Mother’s Day is held, the day symbolises the same thing – to show mothers how much they are appreciated. Of course, every day should be a day to show mothers how much we appreciate them and what they do.
